I wouldn't say that, I actually think the writing for them worked until the s2 finale. After that that the writers were going to extreme lengths to keep them apart.

They were the main reason I watched. Every season shows why they should be together. Even Audrey ships them. so it's interesting that dawson knew pacey was failing and then told joey, why couldn't pacey tell her?
