It's not just that. MTV couldn't get the rights to most of those songs by the time the deals for the DVDs came around. Be it because the old contracts had run out or just plain reverted or had been broken forever ago. That's what took it so long to come to DVD in the first place.
Back then it was mostly free publicity for the songs and bands that the studios enjoyed because it was exposure on MTV. Now, things have changed and not all for the better. I don't say this about modern MTV a lot, but they did try when it came to Daria and trying to keep the show in tact. The original music may be gone, but at least we finally have our box sets. |
