At the end of the day, the stans can say whatever if the producers and writers listen is all their fault. I think that the core problem is that the writers and producers couldn't careless about the characters they created and had no idea where to take them so they follow a salad of fan fiction ideas.
In the end the only thing that shippers are happy about is that they ship ended together but had to wank a lot to justify why they still like their ship. At least non hardcore shippers can say that we like this or that when they were likable but move on when things got ugly. I've never understood the notion of shipping as a competition.  About V and her ships, after being part of fandom in general, the fact that she was not only the poor but PO C character had a lot to do with how she was written, I mean even POC characters that had more following in other shows are underwritten.* sigh* __________________
