I'm not sure that she has been in every episode this season.. She only had one or two scenes max per episode...

... I remember reading something about Maria asking for reduced scenes, or being more absent at times because of her partner/fiance going through cancer...

I'm glad they didn't hire her only to make her a love interest (& that she's not a love interest for a change).

I can already see Gibbs & Marcie investigating on the side... She is an investigative journalist, or something like that...

Yeah, it would have been disrespectful to the Sliibs fans - and totally unnecessary - to bring in another love interest into Gibbs' life...
