Thanks for starting Exciting news

Ok so obviously I knew this was coming as I put together the rounds so I put it in even though I also knew I'd be away when this was started. So this was all prepared in advance - sorry for its length


Characters

I think it'd be nice to stick with a max of 12 characters - 4 from each show. We could also go with 15 (so 5 from each) but I fear the faces would be too small then & I think 4 is a nice number. Another alternative could be 9 (3 from each) which would at least make the faces bigger but I don't think I could part with any of the LA characters so think 12 is the best number. So my vote is to stick with 12 (I know we actually have 11 right now, but our intention had been for 12 but we ended up picking 3 NOLA characters). As for which characters I'll divide that up between the shows...

NCIS

My must haves are Gibbs & McGee & only putting current main characters in. Beyond that I'm not sure who to go with. My thoughts are Palmer, Ducky, Bishop, or Torres. I'm leaning against Ducky since he's in the show less now, but he is one of the originals so it does make sense to include him. It also incorporates another aspect of the show other than special agents - but Palmer could also do that. I was thinking Gibbs/McGee/Palmer/Bishop? I really don't mind though...

NCIS: LA

Callen/Sam/Kensi/Deeks
I see no reason to change what we already have. Callen & Sam are the ones always used to promote the show. Callen is the team leader/lead character. Then the threads for Kensi & Deeks (& their relationship) are some of the most popular threads on here. They're also a big reason why a lot of people watch the show. As amazing as some of the other characters are, I think its for the best to stick with what we already have

NCIS: NOLA

Another tricky one... Pride & LaSalle are obvious picks. Then I'm torn over Sebastian, Loretta, & Gregorio... I feel Sebastian & Loretta make sense since they're originals, but then I love the friendship between Sebastian & Gregorio so a part of me would like that included...



Pictures

Excuse my language here but well pictures are a bitch. Unfortunately for whatever reason CBS doesn't like to do & release promotional pictures for these shows. We were fortunate with NCIS & got one recently. LA hasn't had anything new since we were last done. Then NOLA hasn't really either, but it has some newer pics but they're going to be a bit awkward to use as they're pretty much just headshots. While Steph & I were discussing if we should go ahead we did discuss the possibility of using episode stills. I'm torn over that as a part of the team as I know what they're like to use. I'm also not sure on using a mixture of episode stills & promotional pictures... But I also have lots of faith in the GT because I know how amazingly talented you all are , so providing both options
Below are some links to pictures. I went through & found what are hopefully usable episode stills for the characters I suggested, but obviously who is actually included is pending our discussion. I just thought I'd collect what I could now & if we need anyone else we can look at that another day . (If anyone of the team needs more help to know who is who let me know)

Colours

Ideally I'd love to represent the shows with our colours, but there is no one colour which represents all. Blue is good though... but different shades work for each show
NCIS - cold/icy blues, navy, teal, white. Also a really awful bright orange from the squadroom that isn't usable at all THIS is a good representation
NCIS: LA - sky blue, green, gold, brown THIS is a good representation
NCIS: NOLA - purple, orange, red, brightness, rainbow... hard to really describe it, but its really colourful to me or at least the title card/theme bit is & promotionals often are purples & reds THIS jumped out at me to represent

For combining I did find THIS & THIS but I'm not necessarily sold on them... I think if we can somehow combine the colours it'd be good though...

Mostly I was thinking sticking with blues/teals/greens as the main colours with maybe browns/golds & purples? So maybe if you can somehow combine the blues/greens from the NCIS & LA colour schemes I linked to with a bit of purple & gold?



Font/Logo

If you want to look up one of the logos from the shows to use for the 'NCIS' part you're more than welcome but unfortunately for the 'franchise' part there isn't a logo so you'll need to use a font. Each show is slightly different but they appear to be the same font. I've always thought that Bank Gothic is the font but Eurostile or Orbitron are also similar & would work. I prefer the look of the first two fonts personally as they feel closer to the font(s) used by the shows




Anyway, that's just me... What does everyone else think?

I don't really post much here. (I hate waiting for Netflix to release the latest NCIS.) But the idea of keeping it to 4 from each show is nice. I only watch the original, but I love the idea of having the characters be Gibbs/McGee/Palmer/Bishop. Show some Palmer representation! WOOT! And Bishop has been around the longest of the "new" cast. Great choice there.

Yeah but I don't think they are much different to the episode stills I linked to already as they look like they're from last season too. Although based on the date it was posted it might be from the season before that. Personally I would still stick with the promotional pictures unless you want to use episode stills for all shows or match episode stills to promotionals (just to think of how to make things easier for the team when it comes to putting together the graphic)

I won't speak for anyone else but I know that I won't mind not getting the LA pics updated. The main thing for me is updating the characters & for LA that isn't necessary either . It also isn't like they have drastically changed in appearance. Plus just because they may be from the same shoot doesn't mean they'll be the same pics used or have the same feel

For NCIS I agree with the choice of Palmer & Bishop besides McGee & Gibbs.
As for NOLA I'd go for Sebastian & Tammy, instead of Sebastian & Loretta, since Sebastian & Tammy are both field agents.

See I like showing the other aspects which also makes me lean towards Loretta more... I don't know though as I will happily go with either

For the characters, my choices are:

Gibbs/McGee/Palmer/Bishop

Callen/Sam/Kensi/Deeks

For NOLA, I am good with any Tammy/Sebastian/Loretta as the 3rd and 4th. (though I am leaning more toward Tammy/Sebastian) but any are fine.

Color scheme - I do like the palettes you picked Chelle. For the NOLA colors though, I think more like Mardi Gras colors - like Green, Purple and Gold... which are some of what you have in the pallets. I also liked some of the colors that Hanna found as well. (maybe no green though cause it would be bright I think)

I definitely think that we need to have the colors easy on the eyes though. Don't need to get headaches from looking at the board.

NCIS LA: G.Callen / Sam Hanna / Kensi Blye / Marty Deeks
NCIS NOLA: Dwayne Pride / Chris LaSalle / Sebastian Lund / Tammy Gregorio

I think both of Hanna's suggestions would need to be lightened so they're not too harsh on the eyes but they would work
NOLA is hard for the colours as basically a rainbow works for it

I'm happy with the characters. I'm not really good at graphic designing, but I'm happy with any colour theme chosen

I was thinking, did you guys wanna represent JAG somehow? Or nah?

I see no reason to as it isn't discussed here other than the one thread (which until recently wasn't used). Then although it is where NCIS started I don't know that many associate JAG actually in the franchise? Personally I see it as more the parent/grandparent of the franchise & in the same universe but not the franchise. A bit like how H5O & Scorpion also exisit in it but with slightly more of a connection since obviously we wouldn't exisit without JAG

Then we already have 12 characters which I think is enough. To add in a fourth show I would then say we would need to decrease the amount of characters used for the other shows as otherwise the faces are too small. If the board was actually used to discuss the show or should it be brought back & the board becomes the place for the new show then that would be different. But unless that occurs I see no reason to represent it

I have nothing against like a JAG symbol or something included in the background or something like that but not at the expense of making the characters smaller if that makes sense. More to honour & show respect but not to take away from what the board is currently used for

Yeah I got that on the second read, but I also responded about symbols not just characters

As I said - the show isn't discussed, I don't think it should take away from the shows which are . No offense to JAG, but its not really relevant in my mind. Its not really a question to me as its not a part of the board right now. We've only got so much space to add things in so adding in more to me should be reserved for things which are discussed here over honouring where the shows came from. If someone includes it in the graphic I'll only complain if the faces look small & I'd do that regardless if I think they could've been made bigger
