That could be it but I wonder why they would've set him up so much sooner if he was a throw away character? I think they realised later that they didn't know what to do with him or why they added him which made him easy to turn into a throw away character when they needed one to help write Abby out

They might plan to always have a throwaway character, even if they don't know when they will write them out.

that's a point, they could've They definitely didn't seem to know what they were doing with him other than have him randomly pop up over the divider at times

Yep, and it makes sense to have one, in a way, in case they ever want a big death but don't want it to be a big character.

That's true. They seemed to bring Ned Dorneget back in just in time to kill him off a few seasons ago

That's true, but I still didn't appreciate that they did what they did. tbh I think Ned's death hit worse than Clayton for me but I don't know
