I'd say thinking about it, it was most likely then...

Unfulfilled dreams which she wanted to fulfil...which she sadly couldn't...

If you read the book, you get much more information as to why April ended up like this. I won't give away much, I'll just say that:

Spoiler:

I hope this is enough to prove that she's not as a good mother as she could be...

Oh thanks for this! Now I understand a little more...and it's easy to see why she ended up like that from just that little snippet....

I only hoped they showed Frank and April's pasts in the movie. It'd have been much easier for the viewer to understand what made them behave the way they did...

Yes, it would have helped the viewer understand like that for sure. Plus, I like reading/knowing more background information on the characters to be honest with you, applies for any movie or book

Knowing more things about them is great However, I think that it's better that there was a mystery around those characters, because so the viewer would keep asking questions like: "what did they do what they did? What were they feeling? What kind of past did they have to make them behave so?" And so, they'll want to watch the movie again and again, in order to get the answers. And everytime, it'd end up even more depressing too

You're actually the only person I know that writes and has this kind of problem...

You should try, you never know if you end up wording it the way you want to, unless you try

Alright....

I think I can word it now....I think you know how you said that there is a mystery behind the characters? That post...well, if there is, I guess it could be debateable to what their past is like, if I can word it that way, I suppose?

It makes sense

It certainly is food for thought

What do you think Frank's past was like, from what you gathered from the movie?

I guess so People think many different things...

Hm, I don't know....I'm trying to think here. He could have grown up in a family that always fights? maybe a happy family? Could be either one really....

I think there was even a deleted scene of the young!April, right?

And Frank for me left his house very young if he was in France before he met April, they were young even when they met
