Good to see this thread! My favorite Kate movie and has been for awhile. I'm in a rush and can't stay (I had to post in the board as soon as I could) but I'll definitely re-visit this thread and answer those topic/discussion questions soon.

Welcome Jas! Glad you stopped by!

This is by far my favorite Kate role, the story was so intense and to know it was based on true events was chilling.

What those girls did was just insane.

Thanks for the thread!

I remember watching this movie for the very first time, it gave me nightmares. It really was intense.

I forgot as well that it was directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings).

He did an amazing job with the imagery of this film and the build-up to the killing.

He really did. I love how you could feel that sometime along the movie, something bad was going to happen.

Melissa Ann 04-01-2009 08:52 PM

^^ Yes exactly! There was such an intense feel to it and then when they went for their walk on the path and tea and cakes...I was just waiting for it to happen.

Not expecting it to be what it was.

Thanks for the thread Mel.

I love that movie and it shows Kate's early talent.

I just bought this movie. I've seen it before, but it always deserves a second viewing. What a debut!

I'm back like I promised. ;)

Let's see. One of my favorite scenes is in the very beginning of the film (about two minutes in) where Pauline and Juliet run screaming through the woods. They let out this relentless and frightening scream. You don’t see a close up of their faces but when you finally do, they are covered in blood. Chills, I got chills. Great opening right there!

The movie itself is visually stunning at times and the performances by the two leading actresses were phenomenal. They really do have chemistry and they play off each other rather well. Melanie Lynskey was amazing and Kate was very impressive. Early talent, guys. Their friendship was intense. Best word to describe it.

That bond would spell their doom at the end of the film. Sad to think about.

The imaginations they had. The fantasies. Visual. Atmospheric. We had a chance to get into these girls heads with those scenes as well as snippets from Pauline’s diary. Pretty cool how they did that. Peter Jackson deserves kudos.

Their desperation towards the end of the movie was truly palpable. Like someone already stated earlier, there was a build-up to doom. You knew it wasn’t going to end well. You could just tell that they were spiraling. Just when you think you forgot what happened in the first scene, you see a closer glimpse to the first hand and brutal killing that they both would commit. The ending is really something else. More chills.

The film stays with me. Still does to this day. Favorite Kate movie!

I made a little artwork. Nothing big but I was inspired today.
