5X04 - Live Show

Quote:
On show night, Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) grows increasingly infuriated when no one seems to remember that it's her 40th birthday. Just before the taping, Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) becomes convinced that nothing is funnier than a performer laughing and breaking character, which he elects to do all night, much to Jenna Maroney's (Jane Krakowski) chagrin. Meanwhile, Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) struggles with the consequences of his promise to give up drinking while Avery is pregnant.
Sounds good. I won't be watching it live (I have work). But I can't wait to see it.

Thanks for starting the thread Pia! Pretty new board, new live ep tonight!! Everything is so exciting!

I am also working this evening, but I'm going to attempt to PVR both the East coast and West coast eps, because I want to compare and contrast!

We also get us some Jon Hamm AND Matt Damon tonight. A night of deliciousness.

The ep did not disappoint. The guest stars worked (in particular JLD), the story worked, and I laughed. Everyone did a great job.

JLD had me rollin! Her Liz impression was spot on. I really loved the ep, and can't wait to watch the West Coast showing.

Not as funny as their best episodes, but it was still a lot of fun.

Julia Louis Dreyfus as Liz in the flashbacks was a stroke of genius. You could also see why Baldwin is so good at hosting SNL. The bit where Jack is smelling Jenna's mouth was hilarious.

I really loved this episode, although I kept thinking I was watching SNL instead of 30 Rock Either way it was very funny. I saw the East Coast version, but am also gonna watch the West Coast one later.

Some of my fav parts...

Tracy as Obama

Jack smelling Jenna's mouth

All the guest stars... and I'm sooo excited at how much Dr Spaceman we've already had this season!

Tina and JLD together at the end

Just how awesome everyone was live. This cast are soooo freakin talented!!

I think they did a pretty good job. I loved to see Julia Louis-Dreyfus back on TV. Jane Krakowski is so damn funny..."welcome back to Fox news...I'm blonde..." she delievers so well.
I'm glad they did such a thing

What a great ep. I loved both versions.

-It was funny that there were more mistakes in the West Coast version.

-Tracy wanting to try "breaking" in the skits. After he watched the "non porn" version of the Carol Burnett Show.

-The jabs at Fox News.

-For some reason Tracy and Cheyenne Jackson as Dr. Oz and Oprah really cracked me up.

-JLD!!! I'm actually not a fan but that was inspired casting and she really delivered.

-I wasn't expecting all those guest stars. Great job pulling that off. Dr. Spaceman was probably my favorite.

-Overall, great ep. It did feel SNLish, but it was good anyways.

Yay, I'm glad that you saw it Pia

It was funny that there were more mistakes in the West Coast version. I remember in one pre-show interview Tina said that her main task was going to be keeping the entire cast sober from 8:30 to 11:30, so maybe she didn't manage to do it!

Found this cool article:

The 17 Differences Between 30 Rock's East Coast and West Coast Live Episodes

There's probably more than 17 though.

FINALLY I watched it!!! Both of them!!

I like that both Cheyenne and Jane did the intros on each. I liked the background singers saying it might not work. And Cheyenne talking about sushi.

Julia Louis Dreyfess was hilarious. Lemon out!

Brett Farve dropped off this picture of a hotdog! FINALLY!

Poor Dot Com trying to take Tracy to Angels in America.

It's your b-day bitch! By Snooki's mom.

I liked the participation of the various SNL members. Bill Hader, Chris Parnell, Rachel Dratch

Liz's My Fair Lady impression

Fox News, a division of Fox Nonsense Incorporated.

LOVED Jon Hamm's commercial for executed prisoner hands. And then his lady hand, from the Yale hospital centre for hand frankensteining.
And Cheyenne Jackson's Dr Oz.

"No more laughing! KRout's honor!" .. "Wait! Did you say scout or Krout?!"

I also loved Jack sniffing Jenna's mouth!

I thought Jane was especially fantastic in this one. You can tell she's great at doing live work.

Def not one of the greatest, but a solid well done ep!!

Jenna going around threatening to have a nip slip was great.

I loved all the metaness in the ep too. There was more than usual and it was really funny.
