Friday’s SMALLVILLE remains in heavy DVR demand, as its Live+7 ratings rose above its live viewing by 82% in adults 18-34 (1.69rtg v. 0.93rtg) and 80% in adults 18-49 (1.62rtg v. 0.9rtg). SMALLVILLE gained nearly 1.3 million additional viewers (3.47mil v. 2.2mil)

Playing Chloe: "You don't realize what you've gleaned from working with someone, so just having been on the show with Allison . . . gave me a chance to pick up on things. . . . Alison hung out sometimes and gave me ideas about things. It wasn't so much the physical aspects, because, ironically, you're never aware of how you really move. I would finish doing a scene and everyone would go 'Oh, that's so Allison! That's so Chloe!' And she'd be like, 'I do that?' IT was more of talking about where her character was coming from that helped."

On becoming Stiletto: "Playing Lois, you can't make judgments on the choices she makes. . . . She's trying to contact the Blur and what better way to do that than become a super hero? That was logical for Lois. THe charming thing is that she is the first one to admit she's made a mess. Lois will apologize or do anything she can to remedy the situation. . . . [s]he jumps through a roof to save Jimmy. Lois doesn't even have superpowers, which is what's great about the character."

On Jimmy's death: "When I heard that, I wondered how they were going to pull it off. The way they went about it was very shocking. A lot of us on the set were like 'What? That's happening?' It just fuels more for the characters in the next season and their relationships because of the loss of Jimmy."

On having more episodes: "That allows her to breathe more and be a part of the big--or the A--storyline, because they are not limited about what they can do with Lois and then have to create a logical reason for her to be gone seven episodes. It's really freed up the writers to be able to let her grow into becoming the classic Lois Lane."

On blackmailing Tess: "Wanting her job back at the Daily Planet is so much part of Lois's identity and who she is. She has found so much grounding in being a reporter, so Lois has to have that back. SHe goes back gangbusters, gets her job back, and powers through."

On why Lois and Clark don't admit their feelings: "It's a realistic reflection of a lot of relationships out there. It's the classic, 'Who's going to speak first?' I know where she's coming from. Lois is still trying to figure out what she's felling for Clark, yet she's drawn to the Blur as well. In some ways, she sees something unique in Clark, so she's drawn to him first. It's very confusing for Lois. And I don't know if Lois really believes Clark feels that way about her. Again, Lois is protecting herself, which is why there's a constant cover whenever she's around him. What if he doesn't feel that way? Then it would be really awkward. Right now, Clark is a great friend, so it's more her fear of messing up another [friendship], especially as this one's so important to her. She's basically afraid to move forward and really step out [on a limb] to tell him."

On Oliver: "As far as Lois is concerned, Oliver is someone she loved and the love has just changed [context]. He was her first real relationship. He got to the core of who Lois is. I don't think you ever lose that, so Lois still cares for Oliver, but she's not in love with him. . . . yet as she sees him spiraling downward, she can't help but go 'Look, I know you. YOu're destroying yourself.' Lois is that friend who will tell you what no one else will."

On playing a zombie: "I have a newfound respect for people who have complete make-up transformations and the artists who create them. It took hours to apply. It was interesting because I'm not a confrontational person or overly expressive in letting all my feelings out. I just had to let go and go for it. In that sense it was kind of therapeutic, but exhausting. I'm not sure how people will receive Lois [as a zombie], because it gets pretty ugly. I kept joking with Clark that he should just put her out of her misery because how could he ever see her again in a different light after being so disgusting. I guess that shows how noble he is."

On Lois's antics: "I'm a Gemini, so I have two distinct feelings baout most things. When I initially get the scripts, what I love about Lois is that she seems to get in the most bizarre situations. As an actor, you don't want to do the same thing all the time. However, I got it [the Rabid script] and one side of me went 'Oh my GOd! I'm a zombie!' The other side went 'This is great!' I embrace it, even though some of it's not in my comfort zone. Then I let it go, have some fun with it, chalk it up to something else I've done, and it adds a whole new level to the Lois and Clark relationship. You must really love a chick if she looks like death and tries to kill you, and you keep her around."

On Lois going to therapy: "I was thrilled by that development! I spoke to one of our newer writers, and they were telling me this was going to be a new kind of episode and that it was pretty heavy, with a lot of dialogue. I thought it was a fantastic idea! What a great way for people to see Lois and for her to really bare her soul in a safe environment. People can see what's really bothering Lois."

On Lois: "I really do believe Lois is on the cusp. Everything has aligned itself for this to be the year she becomes the iconic Lois Lane, or at least my version of her. I've always liked the long story, so it's better when the characters take the time to find themselves. That's what I've loved about being part of Smallville. Lois goes through all these phases, and it's all part of who she is. This year, having more time on the show allowed me to sink into the meat of what they gave me and let Lois live a little more. I love it. Lois is more grounded, yet I always like keeping pieces of her that are a little bit bizarre and wacky, because you can't lose that."

Q: Has Erica's increased episode count allowed you to do more with the character this year?
Kelly Souders: Absolutely! Last year, we really wanted her in more episodes. We love Erica and were thrilled it was actually going to work out this season. This year, Lois really becomes the centerpiece of the mythology that CLark has to [work with]. It puts the two of them on a crash course, as if they weren't already on a love crash course to begin with!
Brian Peterson: Oh, wait until you see zombie Lois! It's so good. ERica lost her voice for a day because she was screaming so much.

From the Live Feed, re Roulette:

Good news for "Smallville" (2.5 million, 1.1 18-49) fans, though. The show matched last week's season high (which also held up in the nationals, btw). That means The CW tied ABC for third place at 8 p.m. (18-49 is not their sales demo, but they still keep an eye on it). Regardless of the network's mixed feelings about "Smallville," any show that gets the network out of fifth place among the industry's standard measurement is tough to ignore. So after climbing significantly to reach season highs for two weeks in a row, does that mean it's time to update the Live Feed's TV Series Survival Status Report? I think so.

PattyLaurie on IMDB appears to have an inside connection with Erica, since she was the first one to break the news about Erica's radio tour. She posted this:
Warner Bros has to purchase the rights from DC comics to maintain the use of the Lois Lane character that has so far confirmed the usage in 17 episodes. There is the possibility of 22, not yet confirmed, if there is a season 10, which again would depend also on the release usage by DC comics and a few other extenuating factors influencing the outcome of season 9. However, there are undeniable reports by cast, crew and executives, that the studio and network are ecstatic with ED's performance this year, which bodes well for the show, as it is undergoing a metamorphisis in season 9, that indicates a season 10 may be more than a possibility, and ED is already contracted for season 10.

Returning for its ninth season, last season SMALLVILLE was filled with twists and surprises, starting with the disappearance of Lex Luthor.
