" It’s hard to put into words why it is that I love Erik and Christine so much. I just remember watching Phantom of the Opera when I was younger, the stage version, and wanting them together. I don’t remember too much about when I saw it then, but once the movie came out with Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum my love for them came out in full force. Christine’s so sweet and innocent, the complete opposite of Erik. Erik is dark and mysterious and has such a sexual nature about him that he matches Christine’s innocence perfectly. He was all alone after Madame Giry saved him until he found Christine. She was his muse, his salvation, his connection to the outside world. Through her he could show the world what’s behind the monster. It’s understandable that Christine would have an attraction to him. They have a connection that can’t be broken or even compared to. Erik unlocks Christine’s adult self. He gives her life and helps create her talent and all he wants to do is be with her. It’s clear as he sings in Point of No Return that all he wants is to be with her and that he’ll follow her anywhere. All he wants is her to love him, and even though Christine might love Raoul, part of her heart, her soul, and her mind will always be with Erik. She gave him her mind blindly and he never betrayed her. She only betrayed him because everyone around them couldn’t understand why she would love him. But as Erik sang, he wanted her to look past the monster and see the man within and Christine did that. She knows how horrible the world treated him and she was going to show him compassion when the world had never shown it to him before. Their story is so bittersweet in the end. Erik finally had Christine and after kissing her realized that she didn’t belong in the dark with him, that she was better than him and that she needed to go and live. He sacrificed the only love he had ever known, the only woman he would ever love, so that she could be happy. And even as Christine and Raoul are leaving Erik behind she glances back at him,, a look of longing and sorrow, almost as if to show him she’s sorry. She looked back and that speaks volumes. So to sum up, I adore everything Erik and Christine are together, the sexual and spiritual connection they share. "

" I was drawn to E/C because of their undeniably strong passion and spiritual connection. In spite of all circumstances they are drawn and bound to each other for a lifetime. Erik is such a tragic and sympathetic character that it is basically impossible to not root for him to end up with the love of his life; she is his reason for survival, his means to go on. Unlike the rest of the world, Christine sees beyond his deformity and identifies with his loneliness. Their love story is complicated but the fire will never burn out. The chemistry sizzled between Gerry and Emmy - the actors who played them in the movie, and I loved how the sexuality and romanticism of the relationship was depicted in equal measure. It’s just an extremely epic tale of love and there’s a powerful element of sadness intertwined. "
