Hmm yeah, but they weren't very true to the way things work in academia in various ocassions, perhaps more so in season 12 than in other seasons. The whole Russian paper plot is a good example, they got the process of working on a theory and writing a paper so wrong... And I won't start on the weird ways jobs in fictional Caltech seem to work... So I'm not taking their academia word as a close representations of the real one... As far as I'm concerned there's no way of telling if Do-you-wanna night happened in May or October.

It didn't take 1.5 years, it took like 11 months, which given a full term pregnancy is 40 weeks, is barely a month too long.

They may have taken liberties with science, but they acknowledged that and pointed out that's why they didn't go forward strongly with the Nobel Prize storyline until they knew the show was over, because then they'd have to proceed forward with episodes having strayed considerably from how things really are. And Nobel Prize nominations are in October, and prize ceremonies are in December. Events of shows don't always happen on air dates - that's why some shows film Halloween or Christmas episodes that end up airing in the spring if their premiere gets pushed back to January, like what happened with B99 recently. Plus, the way everything happened was, academically, way too fast to have taken place in eight months, but if their Nobel win happened in December 2019, it makes the pacing a lot more realistic, too.

My point was, they didn't care to make things academically realistic, so it (finale) doesn't have to be December. I'm not saying it wasn't, just that in TBBT world it could have also been July.

See, that's just not a direct comparison to me, because for real world timeline events (holidays, release of movies, Comic Con, etc) they kept them when they were IRL. They never pretended that a Star Wars movie came out in September, they never had SDCC take place in January, etc. They took a ton of liberties with the scientists' jobs, but they also did so with Penny's too. Comparing taking liberties with careers and altering a timeline by six months when time jumps also weren't unprecedented isn't super strong to me.
