As galecki stated in an interview, "Penny may not share Leonard's passion for science, but she loves how passionate he gets about science."

Not to mention penny always comes across as someone who would be more enticed by the visual aspects of science more than the raw data.

Who can be interested by raw data when you don't know what they mean?
Penny likes science when it is explained to her, Leonard knows that. He went to ask her if she wanted to see the moon experiment on the roof because he thought she would like it.

Speaking of the vows and Penny and science, I love how she's confused when Leonard starts saying his sciency vows, for finally being very touched by the meaning of it.
