The signs where there since the pilot. When she first come in 4A she asked if it was Leonard's board, didn't care about Sheldon. And she was all over him all the time.

Ages ago whilst making a video I realized that in the pilot when she goes over to their apartment and says "thank you" she like, moves really close to Leonard and like lingers there. It's just so adorable and I hadn't noticed it before then! Ah, those signs

I always love reading the interviews for that episode. How Prady says that the impetus was, "What happens if you just really look at someone you've dated and wonder what could've been? Would you try again?" Paraphrasing there, but still.

Leonard has clearly seen Penny in that green dress if he's imagining her in it... and probably doesn't like it, or she may have worn it for the imaginary date

I would almost rephrase that question around Leonard & Penny to "what happens if you just really look at someone you fell in love with and wonder what could've been? would you try again?" just so many feels I've never seen that interview!

Also, I wrote about the wool shawl. Don't diss the wool shawl. The wool shawl is probably the reason Penny hasn't been impregnated with three children already

"What if we do go out and I do something stupid and dump you again?" always kinda feels like Penny's biggest fear is that she will somehow end up losing Leonard from her life, and that probably at some point Leonard worked this out and that's why he never really tried to de-friend her when Priya asked because he could never do that to someone he loves regardless of what happens to them.
