They both did things that had significant meaning to their significant other. And that makes it so special.

When you think of the sequence of Sheldon to Amy gifts - it's an interesting progression...

1. Boxed set of Star Trek TOS DVDs - something Sheldon would love, but Amy gave back
2. Tiara - Amy loved it, but for Sheldon, it was basically a "meaningless financial gesture"
3. Emergency Contact - represents a significant commitment on both sides, but one that both are obviously ready for and even thrilled about.

Am I reading too much into this?

I don't consider the boxset of Star Trek DVDs a present from Sheldon "the boyfriend" to Amy "the girlfriend". To me, he just realized she did not know who Wil Wheaton was and wanted to show her. The real present in that episode was 1) Defending her honor facing Wil and 2) Siding with her when a similar situation occurs.

Part of me wants to go with 7, because, adorkable as it is, it's still pre-RA and Sheldon obviously is not happy. He settles into it, and even gives Amy a consoling pat, but he's only doing it because she bargained him into it. And there's something terrific about that, but still.

The other part of me is thinking 13. But that is Amy actually working on the relationship - and being so upfront with Sheldon about what she's doing. And then Sheldon falls for hit hook, line and sinker. He knows he's falling, but he falls just the same.

GAH!!

This is exactly what makes that scene magical for me. The gifts they give each other couldn't be better in my opinion. Like Jim said, he knows romance - he knows what'll get her!
The only thing I find very slightly off-putting sometimes (if I'm going to nitpick), is the audience reaction - the 'awww' is a little much for me, and when Amy says "This is the most beautiful gift you could have ever given me," obviously it was intended to get a laugh, but I can't help thinking 'why are you laughing?', that's absolutely true! He's effectively telling her she's the most significant person in his life.

We're pretty split up on this next round, aren't we? I'm going for #4 again. It's a great scene, but it's before they were actually a couple and isn't as meaningful as the other moments for me. I realise others will disagree!

Vicky, you and I are polar opposites on which Shamy moments are most meaningful. I find the cuddle to be even more meaningful because they weren't officially a couple. Sheldon agreed to physical contact for who knows how long before back when she "wasn't" (I use the term loosely because I think he thought she was) his girlfriend. If that's not true love, then I dont' know what is.

I don't dislike the EC, it just didn't give me the feels that the cuddle does.

Just to clarify, I haven't voted the cuddle out - I voted Herb Garden. Heidi has voted on the Isolation Permutation though! Let's face it, we're all breaking our own hearts with every vote at this point, right?
