So, I was thinking about Raj's blunder with Emily last week, and it kind of hit me that the whole "dew-kissed flower stuff" or going further back to his date with Lizzy and his "I don't believe you - you're lying to me!" are the thoughts he was always having but he was just too scared to voice them.

Which then reminded me of the lines, "God, he's an ass when he drinks." "He's an ass when he doesn't, you just don't here it."

Not that I think Raj is an ass overall - I actually felt a little bad when Amy mentions that he's visibly sweating, because it means he was probably working up the courage to just say hi and not be too shy, but then he psyched himself up too much with all his anxious thoughts and went overkill. So I guess his main hurdle is learning how to fully relax around women. Kinda like Molaro mentioned around the time of 7.15.

I agree, I think he's always been like this - overdoing it, once he finds a girl. I don't think he was an ass, either (there was just that bit where he tried to blame Amy, but it was hardly offensive). Anyway, to me it was just like when he went out with the girl who was deaf (was she called Emily, too?) in S5, and he wanted Howard to say "her eyes sparkle like opalescent lilies in the palace of the celestial maidens," or whatever it was!

He worked on that all night too, just like here he was up all night trying to reply to this Emily. Poor guy - it seems all his anxieties around women remain, even though he can talk to them now.

Yeah; like he got over the hurdle of talking to them, but he's still very afraid. Hopefully with all the dates that have ended badly and emphasized this problem, it'll be something that gets resolved this season or early next. I'd like to see him finally get some last success.
