So I was thinking about Raj/Lucy last night (as I do ), and, once more, a key fact about Raj and his relationships was brought up in that any girl he dates or feels a vibe with a la Claire and Mrs. Davis, he believes them to be his soulmate and them riding off into the sunset. As the season eight finale showed, his relationship with Emily hasn't changed his need for a relationship even if he's not happy, and now we see that she hasn't changed his impulsive nature when it comes to every girl he meets.

This brings us to Lucy. She unquestioningly falls into this category of Raj going out with her and feeling she's the one for him. On the one hand, when you consider comments from Raj about his being so into Lucy and their Skype date where the screen froze being one of his top three dates is put into sad question because is this a matter of his really liking Lucy or just the fact that she's a girl who's interested in him? It's hard to say, and if he were to get back together with Lucy or get together with anyone else, for that matter, it's certainly an issue that he'd have to figure out.

Now, looking at it from that perspective, Lucy would be no more special than anyone else Raj has dated because they'd all be in the same category of his liking them simply because he has no one and they've shown an interest in him. However, I think the one thing that separates Lucy is that she and Raj managed to bond over more than his being alone in that they realized that they were both broken socially in some way and had issues. This, of course, resulted in Raj's conquering his selective mutism, which made for a important arc for him; it could be argued that his relationship with Lucy ended its relevance or significance there with his being cured, but, I like to think that their shared insecurities added a layer of meaning that Raj's other relationships have lacked.

Now, I know that to only have insecurities as foundation of bonding isn't necessarily healthy, so if their relationship were ever to continue, it would have to develop beyond that, but, in any case, that's why I think Lucy has at least an edge in the grand scheme of Raj's dating.
