I think it would be to big a change if Raj could talk to Penny without a prop it would not be the same but it would be a good idea if they were still friends even after the break up Raj could be a sounding board as she needs someone to talk to

That's the thing-we don't know anything about Penny and Raj's friendship, really. You know she's close to Leonard and Sheldon, you know she's not that fond of Howard, and we know she does like Raj-she teases him and went to support him for the People thing, but I have no idea what kind of dynamic they'd have.

The writer's seem to steer clear of having too many scenes with Raj and Penny because there's only so much you can do with them before you run out of material for the time.

I think if the show runs long enough, there's a chance that Raj could end up being able to speak to Penny. I agree it's unlikely, but it might happen.

And I remember that one chance Raj spoke to Penny (one word) and without being drunk, then...he covered his mouth.

That part always confused me a bit. I wasn't sure if he could speak to her because he was so caught up in his love of that stuff or he was starting to get more comfortable with Penny. Based on how the show proceeded I guess it was the first.

I actually don't think it would be a stretch or too much of a change for Raj to be able to speak to Penny. I don't see him ever getting over his inability to talk to women in general, but I think most of his problems with women stems from intense shyness (that disappears when he drinks alcohol). Penny's with the guys a lot. I can easily see Raj finally getting used to her and feeling comfortable around her enough to actually speak to her. She would be the only woman (not related to him) that he could talk to which could open a whole new avenue for scenes and group dynamics.

Honestly, if Sheldon can hug Penny and not always be a condescending jerk and Howard can have a steady girlfriend and not hit on Penny, then Raj can learn to speak to Penny without alcohol. Just saying.

(Also I don't actually ship Penny/Raj. I just adore their friendship and would love to see more of it.

Good points-realistically that should happen, just considering Penny is the only female he interacts with with any frequency, the writers would keep him mute. That's a shame, though.

Well as it is, the writers don't address his mutism directly except when they need it for a storyline so it really just hurts the show to keep Raj silent in group scenes. :/ And there could always be a transition period where Raj can talk to her, but he's still nervous. So he might stammer or speak quietly. Or try to clam up altogether, but Penny would immediately prompt him to speak directly to her since he already showed he could. They probably wouldn't be able to just drop the issue altogether after Raj finally managed to speak to Penny.
