I love to look back to see how Sheldon (and the other characters) has changed. It's so natural and amazing.

I love it when Sheldon doesn't get a joke, or overexplains it and that sort of thing, but it kind of makes me feel sorry for him because he doesn't get why he doesn't get it or why explaining it isn't funny. Brings out the "aww, my baby Shelly" instinct, somehow.

The best expample to me is that one episode when Bernie announces that her dissertation was accepted.
When they're all making fun of Leonard's gaseousness and Sheldon says something that makes everyone laugh, but he doesn't really get it at first and looks around the table, and only laughs because everyone else is. And then it happens again. It's not until about the third time that he kind of realizes why things are funny, but then he kind of unintentionally ruins the funny moment.

Poor Shelly.

A girl on the swim team used to explain my "I'm not insane, my mother had me tested" shirt every time I wore it. The first time, "OH, I GET IT. THE TEST SAID SHE'S NOT INSANE BUT SHE HAD TO BE PRETTY CLOSE TO GET TESTED" made me go "yay, someone gets it!" but then every time...it got old.

The way he does that, or like when he says something like, "humorous wordplay" to explain his jokes reminds me of so many "nerdy" or "uncool" kids I knew growing up.
Kids who were always stating the obvious as they tried to make a joke or whatever.
And I guess it's sort of a phase younger kids go through as they being to understand puns and other kinds of jokes and humor, but then most kids grow out of that "get it?" phase as they learn the subtleties of humor.

But Sheldon hasn't quite grown out of it.
