That was my first thought from the press release. But based on this episode, Penny isn't showing any signs of changing her mind. And even if they DO have her change her mind later, certainly there are better ways they could get to that endpoint without making Leonard look so bad in the meantime.

I don't think it makes either look bad. Penny obviously had issues with it. Anyone would have issues with. Leonard from the looks of it doing it to be nice, and maybe he likes the idea of potentially passing on his intelligence. Especially if he's not having his own kids...Although I don't think he's thought of what happens if there really a baby that comes from this good deed. The legalities of it all.

The easiest out would be if it doesn't work and they want to try again or again, would Leonard keep helping. Then they might have second thoughts. But this is a sitcom not a drama so it might take on the first attempt and they have to really deal with the aftermath...

But right now, as it shows, there is a little bit of tension that exists for Penny and Leonard because of Penny's current frame of mind in not wanting kids. Does that snowball into a bigger issue, but Penny agreeing with Leonard has that helped that gaping wound for now.

The writers have certainly maneuvered themselves into a difficult situation with this "donation" storyline. Now it's their task to give us a convincing and believable resolution for this. Especially an eventual change of heart from Penny regarding kids, has to be convincing.

I just hope it happens soon, and not only in the final episode.

Leonard telling Penny in an argument "if you won't have my kids, why shouldn't someone else?" (paraphrasing Penny's quote) makes him look terrible. I sincerely hope that's not really his motivation, but regardless of how much he meant it, it's a horrible thing to throw at his wife.

I don't think he's really thought of it. I don't think that it is truly his motivation. A large part of it probably is to be nice, to pass on his intelligence. Unless there is some kind of agreement. He's not going to be part of the kid's life, which until Sheldon mentioned I don't think he really thought of.

Not saying it was nice of Leonard to say it, even if there is some truth to it probably but it's not likely his primary motivation. But I think it was to show there is still some tension there about kids for them, between Penny and Leonard. She decided for him and forced it on him, and expected him to abide by it.

Which either leads to Penny changing her mind, a surprise pregnancy or both coming to terms and having some kind of role in the child's life if one comes to be. Or not.

I guess we'll see.

Yeah - whether that is his motivation deep down or whether he was just being petty because they were arguing, that is a terrible thing to say.
