What I like about that one is it's one of those songs that can fool you, if you don't know the context it's definitely possible to pick up on that it's a bad relationship but it disguises itself as something actually romantic, and listening to it within the context of the whole album provides a contrast between the meek and resigned Jenna who feels like Earl is the only future she has and the one nearer to the end where she regains her agency over herself and her life.

In very much related news, I am very close to being able to pay back my guy friend who very nicely bought my ticket to Breeder's Cup this fall and told me I could pay him back when I am able.

THE POLICE WERE HERE TONIGHT we had to throw someone out for extending their stay, their card declining, and then locking themselves in their room to avoid paying. My co-worker called the room and very sternly told them they had an hour to pay or we were kicking them out, then the lady's boyfriend came down and told him not to talk to women that way and then CHALLENGED HIM TO A PHYSICAL FIGHT so he called the cops and thankfully now they are gone. They are also, naturally, now on our refusal list, so they can't stay here again.

People are crazy, man.

I also had police in the area - got home late last night to see at least six cop cars in the neighborhood, plus a helicopter. Three of the cars were right outside my house, and one even had the lights on as I drove up. Never found out what exactly was going on, and they were gone soon after, but apparently the helicopter was asking someone to surrender.

It's definitely my Wicked. (Roxanne has seen Wicked like 25 times all over the place and if I had the money and time I would totally do that for Waitress. )

If only I could live in New York City, near Broadway. I would spend all my money on going to shows there. My local theatre is pretty small, and there aren't many musicals so it's a bit disappointing

Sadly I live a 12 hour drive (or a shorter plane ride, of course) from NYC, but I'm only 5 hours from Chicago (which considering I drive regularly to Kentucky which is 6 hours isn't that bad at all) and there's a pretty big presence there. And there are two theaters in Detroit that don't hold permanent productions but tours come to regularly - I'm seeing Wicked at the Opera House tomorrow and Waitress again at the Fisher Theater in May. So it's not too bad, thankfully, though of course living closer to NYC or Chicago would be great.

I'm lucky that I'm near two theaters in LA and one in Orange County that get the big touring shows, so when something big goes on tour I'm basically guaranteed a chance to see it. And then when I was in London for a year in college I saw SO MANY shows there. (It's where my love of theater began.)

At one point in the height of my Wicked obsession, I saw it 5 times in two months - and each time was with a different Elphaba/Glinda pairing. (In all, four Elphabas and two Glindas between those five performances.) It's gonna be back in LA soon, and I really need to look into tickets.
