Hey all.

Any plans for the weekend? I'm off Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Going to see the Chainsmokers on Monday.

My sister is getting married in a few hours. I just got back from the hairdresser and now I've just finished putting on an obscene amount of make-up to match my fake lashes.

Have fun at the wedding!

I am fuming right now. The Alumni Association at my Alma mater had this PhD speak at my little sister's graduation today, and it was like...awful? Actual quotes from him "employers hate your generation." "You don't have to solve any problems because someone else has solved them for you." "You expect to be paid fairly and we don't know how to handle that," etc. My sister was texting me like "everyone down here is so mad, they're discrediting our intelligence at our own graduation." She got 2 degrees in 4 years (high honors for both) PLUS a minor and got into the best grad school in the country for her field and she has to sit through this crap.

Wow, Nicole, this person is awful to do that!

In France tomorrow it's the election's day. We are almost in the same situation like you guys in the US few months ago, except that the woman for the far right party is intelligent and we don't have counter powers that can block her. So it's even scarier. But there are so many people who don't want to vote because they don't like Macron, the other candidate. I understand them, I don't either and it will be difficult times for most of the people in the both cases, but come on, we don't have the choice, let's go for the less of two evils.
There so many tensions actually in France, I'm glad to not be there

Oh no, I didn't realize that the election in France was tomorrow!

My goodness it would be so awful if Le Pen won...I've heard that she's been doing well recently though

So how do the French elections work? Because when I was there a couple weeks ago, I know they were voting on that Sunday. So why/how does it get spread out?

It's a two-round election. For the 1st round, anyone who can have the sponsorship of 500 national or local elected officials, can be a candidate.
After the vote, if nobody has secured an absolute majority, there is another round 2 weeks later, between the two candidates who got the most votes.
This year, for the first time in the Fifth Republic, the 2 traditional major parties weren't represented for the final round

That's interesting. What would constitute an "absolute victory" in the first round?
