Loved Dr. Horrible! Too too funny. Who knew Doogie Howser could sing so nicely? Nathan Filion was a hoot, too. Some good did come out of the writer's strike! And of course, Joss Whedon is a genius, but everybody knows that. Wonder how his Dollhouse show with Eliza Dushku will turn out?

I hope it does well, I voted for Dollhouse in this months poll, has anyone else? the polls are about to close if you haven't! I would have gone for Stargate my main love for a tv show board but it didn't have enough to compete with the other board that was already over 100 votes... My vote there would have been wasted, i waited until yesterday before voting.

Dollhouse isn't on Fox till 2009 right?

ETA - I found this story, since this was mean to be the Olympic's thread LOL

Did NBC Blow Its Diving Finals Coverage? - Ask Matt | TVGuide.com - WARNING Link may contain spoilers
Quote:
Question: I concur with your recent Dispatches on the 2008 Olympics and how dazzling the 16 days in Beijing have been. However, NBC's final broadcast of events last Saturday ended my viewing on a disappointed note, due to what seemed like homophobia during their coverage of the men's platform diving final (of all places). As the event played out, Australia's Matthew Mitcham had a stunning come-from-behind effort to steal the gold away from China's Zhou Luxin with the highest-scoring dive in Olympic history. It was breathtaking. And yet, during the entire event, the NBC commentators failed to mention a single substantive thing about Mitcham's personal life (unlike most other athletes who were contenders for gold), and I can't help but think it was due to the fact that Mitcham was the only openly gay male athlete at the games. It's not as though his sexuality is an obscure fact. Since coming out, he's been discussed in papers like the Los Angeles Times. He's been on the cover of magazines. And Perez Hilton blogged about Mitcham on his Web site, which, if nothing else, speaks of Mitcham's relevance in our gossipy zeitgeist. NBC's commentators had a wealth of information about divers, and in their constant banter, they frequently discussed the details of the dating and family lives of divers from other countries. Would it have killed NBC to show Mitcham the same respect by pointing out that his partner, Lachlan, was in the crowd and rooting him on? I find it strange that the same network conglomerate thinks our culture can handle Queer Eye, but somehow shies away from acknowledging something as innocuous and heartwarming as this. It was a simple moment that could have humanized gay relationships to a country that so often fails to grasp at anything but stereotypes. What would be so risky about it? I'd love to hear your thoughts. — Brian

Matt Roush: I felt much the same on Saturday night. Having shielded myself from the results, I was stunned and thrilled at Matthew Mitcham's surprise gold-medal win, a huge newsmaker in that he was the only diver who was able to thwart China's 8-for-8 gold-medal goal. It was an incredible story and seriously underplayed by NBC, which cut away from the event way too quickly. No interview, not a glimpse of the medal ceremony. If all you knew was what NBC let on, you might have pieced together that Mitcham had left the sport for a while for "personal issues" and was a former trampolinist. Nothing about his personal life, the fact he had loved ones (including his mother) in the stands or that he was headline news back home. While some might argue that it was more about NBC's typical USA parochialism than homophobia in not giving Mitcham a bigger spotlight, there's no avoiding the fact that NBC Sports was ridiculously, cowardishly squeamish about addressing Mitcham's personal story with as much honesty as the diver himself has done. In a cover interview with The Advocate magazine, he said, "I just want to be known as the Australian diver who did really well at the Olympics. It's everybody else who thinks it's special when homosexuality and elite sport go together." The point being that NBC didn't need to sensationalize or sentimentalize Mitcham's story, just report it honestly as the human-interest, feel-good story that it was, not to mention one of the great underdog upsets of the games. Maybe a network with real guts like HBO can do this athlete justice, perhaps in a profile on the True Sports series or on Bob Costas's own HBO show. NBC really blew this one. For what it's worth, NBC's Olympics president has offered an apology to to any offended parties via the afterelton.com Web site.

No idea Matt was gay and weird they would think in inappropriate to mention, since they talked about the stupidest stuff about everybody! Maybe because China pretends there are no homosexuals in their country -- I kept watching those performers in the ceremonies thinking "oh yeh, like none of those guys is gay!" But Greg Louganis was a medal winning diver and gay man a long long time ago. They did say he had person problems and had left diving for awhile and then went back to it - didn't go into what problems those might have been. I thought his diving was thrilling and I was really glad he won! Go Oz!

Yet another reason why to hate NBC. Matt Mitcham is a legend, no matter why side of the fence he lives on - it shouldn't even be an issue!

Ohh Clint, is Doc Horrible still on the 'net or was it pulled down? I hope I didn't miss it as I've been a NPH lover since 1990... lol

If I knew your address, I could have just sent it to you and saved you the hassle, as I do for Net and Mezzi.

Hi Mezz, I'd love a new computer but can't afford one right now. I did get a 19inch LCD last year so at least that's up to date

Oh no, not Vista! lol Just don't let it do automatic updates Mezz, it's a flawed system. But yay on the flat screen, great aren't they? All that room you never thought you had!

Ahh don't worry Clint, it only took an hour to download and I watched it right away!

Congrates on teh new computer Mezz.

And welcome to the "joys" of Vista...i'm so sick of things poping up to let me know there is a new update available. And yeah don't let it do auto updates as it will be forever updating.

Danie i had no idea NPH has such a good singing voice.

Also watched the s1 epps of Dexter that i hadn't seen yet yesterday and was surprised when i noticed how long the episodes were going for, 55min according to my dvd player..now i'm curious as to what ch 10 has been cutting out as there is no way they would only have 5 mins of adds though the whole show.,

And i got s4 Atlantis today and yay got the bigger box so it matched the other three boxes...and i'm now going to go start watching the extras.

I guess it doesn't help your monthly data limit.

I haven't been watching them close but since the air Sunday night late I think they run about 70 mins so about 15 mins of ads.

That is why I sent them to you, they must cut some bits out (Aussie tv after all! ) Unless they copy lame 'reality' tv shows and 'run over time' with the episodes? Which I kind of doubt. BTW, I bought season 2 Dexter DVDs by accident last Thursday evening from JB HiFi, I thought it was season 1. It had the evidence bag as a bonus. It contains an evidence bag, 'Crime scene - do not cross' yellow tape, toe tag, slide with a drop of blood on it (like in Dexter's AC), latex glove, stickers for test tubes when testing blood samples, evidence stickers for the evidence bags and the season 2 DVDs all for $38. Now I must buy season 1...

I hope you will watch Dexter from scratch right now! It only goes for 12 episodes, half a usual season. You will see any scenes that were edited by - channel 10.
