Short day today so I have to be quick - leaving early with MLette to sign papers at my old doctor to transfer to a new doctor and then go see the knee doctor - why, I'm not sure - to tell him the shot he gave me stinks! LOL!

I apologized and Mr ML got over his snit about the picture. MLette doesn't like it either - the changing abstract image kind of freaks her out, I think. Oh well - I think it's really pretty, and interesting. I don't usually go for abstract/modern things either but for some reason, I liked this. I like my abstract art to be representational, if that makes any sense. In our subway station there this wonderful metal sculpture called 'Davis Square with a D' and I can see parts of various letters in there. The colors are really nice too. I should take a picture of it. When they extended the subway system (~25 years ago) they added all this 'arts on the line' to the different stations, which is very nice. We have tiles drawn by school kids that are really charming too.

Funny, I was looking at art by another guy, Guillaume Azoulay - he applied to the same art school the guy who did my art (Agam) went to in Israel, but didn't get in. So he became an actor instead (and then later an artist) and appeared in 'Hair' in Israel - and I think he was in it around the same time I went to Israel during high school and saw 'Hair' there - so I think I saw this (now) famous artist naked! Small world.

I gave 'Vampire Diaries' another try, and it wasn't quite so bad this week. I might stick with it. Watched the end of Supernatural, with the brother all in the white suit looking like Mr Rourke on Fantasy Island (he was the Devil) - Jared Padlecki really is a pretty terrific actor in that show. I see why people love that show, but the scary stuff is too scary for me. Enjoying the 'Eastwick' show with the witches - had a terrific cast. OO, and the guy in it, Jack Houston, is going to play Royce King (Rosalie's evil fiance) and he is pretty evil looking - he's John Houston's grandson and Angelica Houston's nephew!

I found that out because I got the 'Sexy Stars of New Moon' book at the drug store last night. And he was in it. Very interesting book!

Okay, 2 tapes for Mrs Boss and no time to type them...

I was an hour late leaving work Friday, rushed to the bank with the rent, to the store to cash Mr ML Jr's winning tickets from the party, and then to the doctor's office to sign up for new doctors/transfer our records, and gobbled down some quick lunch around 2, and then MLette drove me to the knee doctor. She is such a great daughter (and good driver now too!) :> I told him the knee shot stank and he wanted to 'top it off' with another cortisone shot, but I didn't have my brain ready for another shot so I said not yet, so he gave me a prescription for some arthritis pills. Worth a try, anyway. Hope they aren't too strong. I haven't filled it yet. I was exhausted from all that zipping around - would have been more restful to stay at work and work! LOL! I don't know, those knee doctors sort of have the attitude that I'm stupid not to just go get my knees replaced but it's a major major thing and a huge amount of time out of work to recuperate.

MLette and I went to the temple Saturday morning (she drove me there too), as it was the 2 year anniversary of my Mom's death (by the Jewish calendar). I don't know how many years it's been that we haven't gone, but I can't tell you how jaws dropped and how thrilled the people there were to see us again - it was really embarrassing! I forgot the memorial prayer is like the last thing in the service, so we got there way early and the service goes on for like 3 HOURS Our arms were cramping up from sitting/standing and holding the prayer book for so long! Out of shape! It really is way too much. At least his sermon was mercifully brief, and interesting. Plus it was a holiday (Sukkot), so there were all these extra prayers as well. The snacks afterwards were very tasty. And the people are really nice. But it is way too long to sit. sigh.
Anyway, I came home and slept for 2 hours - it wore me out! So that pretty much shot the entire day. It was 4:30 before I woke up.

Mr ML and my son went to play in a Magic: The Gathering tournament (weird game with special cards) - they played last week and enjoyed it so I guess they're suddenly taking that hobby back up again. Oh well - gets my son out of the house/off the computer for awhile. They didn't get back til suppertime.

Miserable weather too - poured down rain the whole day yesterday and pretty damp still this morning.

Mr ML suddenly decided we need to replace our bathroom sink, I guess because the kitchen sink work went so well, so we went to Home Depot and looked at bathroom vanities. Our bathroom is small and narrow - it's just the width of the bathtub at the end, so there's not a lot of room in there. The (ancient) sink doesn't bother me at all but I guess it bothers him so... whatever. I saw one I liked, and of course it wasn't the bargain ones they had on sale - they had boxes with the sink, cabinet, faucets and a mirror all included! But we don't need the mirror. It would be nice to update our bathroom a bit - it's gross (just like the rest of the house) - ahem. We really need to move.

Podmom glad you got some 'just you' time! You really needed it.

Wen sorry your Mom has you jumping. I saw those Twilight magazines and I'm thinking about them - issue 1 is really expensive, I guess there aren't many left now. Also the little USB drive that has the whole New Moon soundtrack loaded into it! How cool is THAT? I just bought/downloaded my first song, and I put it on my USB drive and brought it home and put it on my work computer and Mr ML was very impressed. Although I suppose a CD of the soundtrack would be more practical (could play it in the car, on the CD player, or on the computer).

October already!! I have to hang up some decorations. I have really slacked off on that - I used to decorate the (glass) front door for every month/occasion. But I still do it for October and Winter/holidays. My friend Susan decorates her whole house for everything! She even changes the shower curtain with the seasons! Way way too much work imho.

Hey Poddy! I'm glad you are getting a little break! About time Bro' stepped up to the plate to help! (ahem!) Wish my Bro' would do the same, but I'm still working on him, (Mr. Every Excuse in the book!) Makes me mad!

Anyway, enjoy your time with Poddad!

MyrnaLynne, I'm glad that Mr. ML isn't mad anymore about the picture. But that's too bad that MLette doesn't like the picture. Maybe it will grow on her? :>

And that's funny that you might have seen that famous artist naked! LOL! Small world, hey? LOL!

And yes, I agree... Vampire Diaries was much better this week IMHO. Hope they can keep it up!

I haven't seen Eastwick yet,... I'll have to take a look.

WoW!... You had a Busy Friday! But I totally understand how you felt about NOT being prepared for a painful shot and deciding NOT to get it at that time. (That same thing happened to me Thursday, which I'll explain later, so I do understand. )

I hope those arthritis pills aren't too strong for you too! You probably have to eat something to take them so it doesn't cause stomach upset, as a lot of arthritis meds say that.

So, did you ever decide on a bathroom vanity? A little at a time to fix up the house isn't so bad. At least it's not over-whelming and I think Mr. ML likes doing little projects around the house,,, or so it seems.

That's pretty nice tho' to have the complete kits with the sink, vanity, and all ... all together! What a Great Idea!

Sorry to hear that Temple wore you out! But 3 hours?! That would wear anyone out! And I thought our church going up to 1.5hrs long was too long! Your's has our's beat by twice the time!

And MLette is such a Sweetie for driving you all around. for her. Lainie drives me all around too and I really appreciate it too.

Hey, I won a Mario Christmas Stocking for my nephew Evan! This time there were no other bidders, so that made me happy! Bidding ended today, so it should be shipped out sometime this week.

Evan is going to be soooo surprised and he's going to absolutely Love it!!! :>

Well, MOTHER is here spending the weekend... sleeping right now, (that's why I'm on the computer), but hopefully she'll go home tomorrow.

Now I'll tell you why I've been so MIA, and it's not just because of MOTHER, altho' she is a major part of why most of the time. :p

I'm dealing with an abscessed tooth, ... 2 actually... one I knew about and one I didn't.

My left bottom molar is abscessed and killing me, but I didn't have dental until Oct 1st, so I went to the Dentist on Thursday, Oct 1st, and they did a whole mouth x-rays, and that's when they found the other infection in my upper gum Behind my front tooth behind my bridge in a tooth that was supposed to have had a root canal in... but it looks like they MISSED some of the root, and it's infected now... and all the while I thought the pain was from my sinuses!

So, they wanted to extract my abscessed molar right then and there and I freaked! I said NO, please just give me my antibotic Rx and I'll make an appt for the extraction for another time. And they DON'T put you to sleep to do extractions!!! I've never been awake for an extraction before, so I'm REALLY FREAKING OUT!!!

They made my appt for Oct. 15th. And I'm petrified!!!

PLus they want to remove my remaining 3 wisdom teeth, and give me 3 root canals and they have me really freaked out with all the work they want to do! I'm really, really petrified! I just may die from a heart attack right in the dentist's chair!

I need lots of prayers to get me thru' this... all prayers welcomed here!

So, I've been on pain meds every 4 hours and it is keeping the pain dulled to a point, but not totally gone. I'll be glad when the antibiotic starts kicking the infection's butt and the pain really lets up so I can get off the frequency of pain meds. (sigh) I don't like the way they make me feel, so tired all the time.

I did decorate my fireplace with a pretty Autumn wreath on it and some really pretty (artificial) autumn leaves and a mini pumpkin patch amongst the pretty sparkling leaves. Looks very cute if I do say so myself. :>

When the kids were small, I used to do a lot more decorating for their sake, but now I really am not up to it... but I'm glad I did the fireplace. It just perks the living room up.

Hope Everyone has a Great Week!

Biggest Hugs to All,
Wen

Oh Wen your poor teeth! Nothing is worse than tooth pain. And you were right - if you pull an abscessed tooth, it can spread the infection into your bloodstream! You should treat it first. At least that's what I've always heard.

That's a whole lot of dental work they want to do all at once, too! My friend Jim I guess had a really bad phobia of dentists and put off dental work for years and years, and his sig other (my best friend) found a dentist that would knock him out and do it all while he was unconscious!

I was freaking out over getting a wisdom tooth out and it turned out to be no big deal (the roots were squished together into a point and it wasn't in there that firmly). But my dad had terrible wisdom tooth stories from his Army days, so I expected it to be horrible! I never got any wisdom teeth on the bottom at all, which was a break for me.

I haven't gotten the arthritis meds yet, but he did say the only side effect might be they bother your stomach. I'm so leery of taking new medicines, but it's worth a try. With the cold damp weather lately, ALL my joints are starting to hurt! Worried they might make me fall asleep at work, too.

Your autumn leaves and pumpkin patch sound adorable. I brought out the October decorations but didn't put them up yet - so far I only brought out a pumpkin-shaped ceramic dish I have and hung up a harvest/cornucopia sun catcher on the window. I might bring out my thanksgiving table cloth early and put it on the dining room table too.

But Mr ML has his monthly poker game with the guys Friday, so we have to clear off the dining room table again and it's piled up with stuff from our trip, etc. Can't decorate until that's is over with.

My son had one of those late-night shifts again - he had to leave for work at 1 a.m.!! I worry about him being on the highway late at night and coming home without any sleep too. But he's a big boy - hah, boy, he's 29! At least they pay him extra for it, so that makes up for the hassle. I guess companies update their computer stuff in the wee hours, when nobody's using it. Makes sense, but a pain for the computer guys!

That's great you got the Mario stocking! I want to order some stuff from catalogs - saw some sweater/turtleneck combos that could be the foundation of my winter wardrobe this year. All my sweaters are getting old and worn out and I need to replace them. Also want to get some new tablecloths for the kitchen table as the one we have is wearing out also.

We found a vanity we liked, but didn't buy it, and then found that it was cheaper online at the store's website (and shipping is free). But once the vanity goes in, it will limit access to the plumbing for our (claw foot) tub, so I think I'm going to order a new faucet-shower ring set up for that too, and have the plumber install both, as our current shower setup is very unsatisfactory. It hasn't been right since we replaced the faucet the last time - I think he put in a lousy one or else didn't do it right - some combination. The pipes bang and whistle, plus the hot water tap turns itself UP unless you jam a washcloth behind the handle. Nothing in my house works right.

Mr ML isn't really handy at all, but sometimes he manages to overcome that and do some pretty amazing work - like painting our (giant) house by himself or replacing our top porch. He doesn't do it right and it usually looks crappy but at least it's improved! Craftsmanship isn't exactly his middle name.

Oh well - I have a mountain of stuff I didn't get done Friday because I left early and now there's all the new stuff on top of it... back at it!

I too thought you had to start on antibiotics before work When I had my one root canal my dentist sent me to a Doc that only did that kind of big stuff....they didn't put me to sleep but other that the nasty shots it didn't hurt. Podad and my sis goe to dentists that put a thing on your eyes and you get to watch a movie.....there are lots of different dentists out there...maybe you should shop around. Sak some friends look online. You might love your guy too.....hang in there plug away at it though cause it will only get worse Me too....I sued to decorate up a storm.....this weekend I FINALLY got to weed and whack and get my front yard to look lived in instead of Miss Havershoms house(Dickins ref ) I did put up a fall wreath and I actually bought a real pumpkin when I went to Penn Dutch country with Katie on Friday......we went to 2 stores that the PD actually go to for themselves.....fascinating....it was kind of dark because they actually use gass to light with.............have little copper tubes along the cieling then periodically those filament things like in a lantern....pretty cool. Got lots of good produce and a few baked goods

Refinancing was a great thing - so glad we did it! It's a hassle but I think totally worth it, while good deals are to be had. Good luck!!

I never heard of a store lit by gaslights, although I guess our house used to have gaslights/ coal stoves/ no electricity at one time.

I'm thinking about getting a real pumpkin this year too - we had one last year.

We have to do some hacking back before winter comes. Mr ML's new hobby this year has been gardening and now he wants to bring all the flowers he bought ($$) indoors and try to save them, so he doesn't have to buy more next year. He's talking about growing them under lights and stuff... SIGH - Oh well, I guess as an obsessie myself, I can't fault him for obsessing over his interests. He also bought a ton of daffodil bulbs (like 40+ and our yard is small) and planted those, and now he's fretting about those. And when to bring in the amaryllis etc.

The Mennonites wear those lace caps and aren't as strict as the old order Amish with the black hats, I think. I had some Mennonite girls with the lace caps in public school with me in Pennsylvania, and I'm pretty sure the Amish don't send their kids to regular public schools.

'Bones' was doing an episode about the Amish this week, I think. Amish are suddenly 'in' I guess. It's nice they give their kids a chance to decide if they want to accept that life or not and don't force it on them. Only problem they have is too much intermarriage and various illness from that.

Funny that, like the Hasidic Jews with the big fur hats and long black coats, they got 'stuck' in a style from the 1800s or whenever and never changed after that. Sort of like what nuns wear. Although even most orders of nuns have 'kicked the habit' and just dress like regular people, only a bit more modestly and with a big cross.

Speaking of nuns, the founder of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Jeanne Jugan, is becoming a saint! That order of nuns runs a really nice old age home in my town and of course all the nuns are wildly excited their founder is becoming a Saint! These nuns have a fundraising bazaar every year and make this Irish soda bread and we've gone to their bazaar (and bought their soda bread) for years and years.

We watched House and taped first hour of Dancing, then watched Dancing for the 2nd hour, then watched Castle! LOL! I just missed Donny. I thought they were so unfair to Michael Irvin - he danced WAY better than Chuck Lidell or the politician with the bum feet, yet they got higher scores. Well, I understand all the judges seem terrified of Chuck Lidell the ultimate fighting guy and they are very tactful with their comments and always try to say something positive to him - they don't want him to beat them up! I remember when they were so hurtful and mean to Billy Ray Cyrus - I guess he didn't scare them. Poor Kelly Osborne is so high strung and neurotic - I hope this competition won't be too much for her. Aaron Carter is a surprise. The poor boy doesn't have 2 brain cells to rub together - but the boy can dance. I still think it's so unfair that it's more a popularity contest than a how well you learn to dance contest. LOL, Mr ML got on the phone and called in a vote for Chuck Lidell last night, just to spite us! I gave Michael Irvin a vote just because I thought they were way too harsh with him. He wasn't great, but others were worse and got better scores, which is unfair.

We enjoy 'Castle' so much - I love the witty dialogue and the light touch and Nathan Fillion and the characters of his mother the grande dame fo the stage and
his sweet redhaired daughter and the 3 cops. It's just very well done. And a pretty good mystery who-dun-it each week as well. I just wish it wasn't on from 10-11! We have to tape if for MLette, who is sensible and goes to bed and watched the show later.

LOL, of course now that we're thinking about replacing the sink and fixing the shower over the tub, I'm thinking before we do that, I really ought to find new wallpaper and repaint the bathroom. It's like one thing leads to the next and it's suddenly an enormous project. I've wallpapered that bathroom several times over and it is a job and a half. Probably too old to do it again myself - probably would need to hire a guy. It's a small room.

Happy 10 year Anniversary of Roswell today!

And my 2nd season DVD of 'Blood Ties' just shipped too! Kyle Schmid's movie 'The Thaw' just came out, with Val Kilmer and Aaron Ashmore,(Jimmy Olsen guy from Smallville) but I think it's a pretty horrible horror thing. Oh well - the boy keeps working! He got a wonderful online write up, too, in relation to The Thaw coming out. I hope Deep Cove/Fear Island comes out soon - that one looked a little bit less horrible (and he's in a bathing suit :> okay, I admit it, I'm shallow). Aaron Ashmore did that with him too and Hillary Duff.

I remember we had a comedian come to our junior high in PA and one of his jokes was "I dated a Mennonite girl - she never took off her hat - but we crushed a few of them." At the time, that was a pretty racy joke! And let's face it, how many Mennonite jokes are there? You would know more about the various sects and what they wear, living in that area. I think the girls could wear stockings, but not shave their legs!

Too funny about the black and white sneakers! Either the whole church bought them in bulk, or they decided they were plain and yet comfortable/sensible.

I can see the whole 'dressing modestly' thing, but not taking it too extremes. Orthodox married women cover their hair, but I think you're right that ultraorthodox wear wigs over their hair.

That crazy Dugger family with the 18+ kids were on 'Say Yes to the Dress' (bridal dress fabu store in NYC and their crazy customers - MLette loves that show) - they were buying her a new wedding dress to celebrate their 25th anniversary/renew their vows (they had the 18 kids running wild in the store, too), and she was trying on the collection they have for Orthodox Jewish customers (long sleeves, high neck, not showing too much). I think she was pregnant, too! I mean, they certainly follow their beliefs and take very good care of their children, but man... I bet that woman can't WAIT for menopause!

Oh yeh, Nathan Fillion was a truly evil terrible man on Buffy, but he's been a very nice good man on most of his other shows. I wouldn't like him either, if I'd only seen him play that evil reverend on Buffy!

Well, it's been at least 25 years or so since we moved upstairs to where we live now, and it's probably time to freshen up some parts of it. Some parts we still never did over from the way Mr ML's mother had them (like the purple violets wallpaper in the office that was her bedroom or the hideous faux panelling in the dining room). sigh. Mr ML Jr still has the choo-choo train border and bright yellow woodwork in his room! I wallpapered that bathroom twice, because the first wallpaper just didn't stick right and it all peeled and curled up at every seam - what a tragedy. It was supposedly prepasted but they didn't put on much glue! I ended up having to re-do it. But now it's time to do it again. What a job that is... It seems like a tiny bathroom, until you start clambering around hanging wallpaper (plus our ceilings are 9 feet high).
