Hi ML We had the rain too and I as well was very relieved it wasn't cold enough to freeze(close though) cause of Liz and Walter driving then flying and sis,bro and Viv drivingand Em and I were out last night(not together) Now just Em ,Podad and I and Sanatana L&Ws cat...he is doing pretty well.....he came upstairs but is mostly just walking around sniffing things in a hyper aware way....but he is enjoying getting to look out of the different sliding doors at the squirrels and birds(remember he is a city cat that lives in a 5th floor appt..patio but not much wildlife..if any ) Glad your snow is shrinking a bit I wish I could sleep that well....you must have needed it! Your cake sounded delish...I would have had a piece....so would mom...we love cranberry anything Where does everyone sit for dinner at MrMls get together? At my sisters last yr it was 16 and that seemed like such alot....although some of us were staying there so that makes for more stuff and confussion....I am intrigued by the idea of a large family but also realize it must have it's up and down sides like everything. Yup onto 2008....doesn't it seem like yesterday that we were obsessing over Y2K yikes the time won't stop

HeyMezz How was the weather your way on Christmas?

vB It's a toss up who spells more words wrong you or me but for sure your mistakes are way more charming and cute....good luck on the effort to improve..I can't imagine many are better than you.....hopefully all your reading and typing here helps!

Thanks for the Maggie update ML

off to check the Obsessies.....

Hi Everyone!

Glad to hear that the weather isn't as bad as it could be MyrnaLynne & Poddy. I'll tell you, I don't miss the freezing snow and all that! Brrrrr! Altho' with these hot flashes that I keep having, I swear, I could melt New England single handedly! LOL!

On Christmas, I made Christmas dinner for the entire family, and I was so hot that I thought I was going to self combust! Every chance I had, I kept going to the door, to catch some cool air... it was awful! These hot flashes are just the worst! Grrrr!

I made turkey and ham this year, as I usually do every Christmas since everyone usually is still in the mood for turkey. And everyone kept telling me that the dinner was the best they've ever eaten... Funny, they say that at every one of my dinners! LOL!

Yes, I worked my fingers to the bone (single handedly mind you) but it was all worth it. Everyone enjoyed themselves and enjoyed the food, and that's what counts.

Poddy, I'm so glad you had a nice time with your family... and that kitty wasn't discovered by sissy. (Funny how sissy's allergies didn't act up one bit when she didn't know that kitty was there, but had she known, she would have been putting on a grand preformance of a lifetime of allergy symptoms, right?!)

And I tend to get misty too, so I would have been tearing up right there along side of you while listening to "your Band"!

And LOVE all the cute decorations you've been posting on this thread!

Vero, Good luck with boning up on your English! I think you do a fab job already! But English has always been hard in the Spelling department... too many rules, and too many words that sound alike but are spelled differently. I just wish you all the luck in the world Sweetie because English can be hard sometimes.

MyrnaLynne, Thanks for letting us know about Maggie making it safe and sound to her Bro's. I tend to worry whenever one of us travels. (Worried Rosmom Strikes Again!)

And I too would have had a piece of your cranberry cake! I too love cranberries!

When I lived back in MA., we used to drive passed a Cranberry Bogg all the time Called: "Oh My Aching Back Cranberry Bogg!" No Kidding! LOL!

I've noticed since there aren't anymore shows to watch on TV since the strike, the night goes by a lot slower now. Has anyone else noticed this?

I did watch and (play a little) of the kids' Nintendo Wii last night. I got them the "Carnival Games" game and some of the things are really hard to do! But then again, I usually don't play video games either.

They, (Lainie, & No.2 son) really been having fun with that Wii and the sports games that they can play together. They have nice family fun games for the Wii.

Wishing You All a Wonderful New Year!!!

Hugs to All,
Wen

i went back to look at the cute pink shoes on baby elephant and then thought to our elephant accident the other day. did you guys hear about it? A circus worker was unloading an elephant and it lost its footing and slipped and fell ontop of the worker killing him. What a freaky accident.

(it'd make a great cartoon though. Hmmm my sense of humour is in bad taste I fear but imagine it in cartoon form and tell me if it isn't funny )

Wen you're so lucky that everyone loves your food so much

Hi Mezzi!

We had a terrible freak accident this past week too at our San Francisco Zoo! One of the Siberian Tigers got loose and ended up killing one person and putting another in the hospital! Sooo sad. They ended up killing the tiger. I don't know why they didn't tranq it instead, but I guess they are suppose to know best since they are suppose to be the experts?

Wen your dinner sounded yummy! It is all about enjoying everyone enjoy your food The Wii is very family friendly....podad is playing it while Emily is at the mall with friends Well I was crying at the song that a different guy sang at the east coast wedding of my friend and her now husband that has terminal lung cancer poignant but I get to see my band again tonight...and the bride and groom will be there too..last night before flying back home to Seattle. That tiger thing was scary and sad...not the way one imagines going .... I know about the no new shows guess I'll be getting my monies worth out of netflix for a change at least.
Glad you enjoyed the decorations.... thanks

Mezz I hadn't heard about the elephant thing....another very weird way to go....and yes there is a comical element ...ya gotta laugh at the tragic absurdety

how about a little nostalgia here....remember guess the Roswell eppisode game.....what does this gif remind us of......

We heard about the tiger. Really tragic. Not even funny cartoony visuals to help out with that one. Sad about the tiger.

LOL, Podmom you always give me a laugh - loved the elephant wearing Jason's favorite sneakers (although not in pink for him!)

I just heard about that tiger today (news avoider) and the sad news about Mrs Bhuto in Pakistan (she went to Harvard, so she's practicallyl a neighbor). Well, she knew what she was getting into/risking, as they've been blowing things up since she got there. I just wish people would stop blowing things up and killing one another! Is that too much to ask?! Where's that 'Peace on Earth and Good will toward men'?

Mezz sad/funny elephant accident. Sort of like the sad/funny accident my boss had being run down by a man in an electric wheelchair - if the person hadn't been hurt so badly, it might have been funny. Elephant must have been horribly upset/embarrassed. They get very attached to their people. They may be big and grey and wrinkly but they are sensitive intelligent creatures I think. sigh.

In the funny news today, firemen in Idaho rushed out to put out a fire and came back to their firehouse burning - they left the Tater Tots in the oven.

MLette and I worked a half day today, as I'd completed all my work and Mr and Mrs Boss are still away on vacation until next week. Couldn't resist any longer and downloaded a few episodes of 'Blood Ties' from iTunes (starting at the beginning that I missed). What a wonderful show! I've never liked a show so much, so fast. Umm, well, except for Roswell.. and Moonlight, although I go back and forth with that a bit. Although I guess I had my arguments with where Roswell was going a lot of the time too (2nd season cough). And Star Trek, of course. I've read all 9 of her novels related to the show too (in record time).

It was a beautiful sunny day and went up to 40 and it was so nice to come home in the daylight and veg out. I had the mistaken idea New Years was Monday and we got a long weekend, but it's the same stupid Tuesday holiday as Christmas was. Oh well, working a one-day week and a three-day week isn't so bad!

Wen your Christmas meal sounds wonderful and it's good your family appreciates all your labors. Bummer with the hot flashing! I've been a little hot now and then but so far, not so much.

It usually takes 2 or 3 tables to fit everybody. They had a kids table (kids in their 20s) in the kitchen and put two long folding tables together side by side and sat everybody else around it - it was pretty snug seating. When I had everybody here I had two tables in the dining room and one in the living room and it was also very close quarters (and I'd never have everybody over here to eat again). It was too much for me.

I will PM you the cranberry cake recipe, if anybody wants - it was from AARP magazine. I typed it up for my friends but made a couple of major typos in it - like a tsp of flour instead of a CUP! That would have been a very tiny cake.

WII carnival games sound fun, although I've never been good at video games. I think the one I liked the best was bass fishing (that's how long it's been since I've played a game). Well Ms Pacman was nice, as she just walked around eating and I'm so good at doing that! LOL. The WII sounds fun, but I just don't want Mr ML JR to buy any more (expensive) game systems. For one thing, he leaves all the old ones set up and gathering dust around the house. Never gets rid of anything. sigh! He was all set to buy himself a laptop, just for the heck of it, even though he has absolutely no use for one. Oh, well, it's his money (and his lap).

We rented a comedy video by Eddie Izzard and laughed so hard I nearly hurt myself. He is a truly very funny and strange and hysterically humorous stand up guy. I didn't realize the video we saw was from 10+ years ago - I looked him up in IMDB and was surprised how he'd aged (not well - that English skin doesn't prosper under the California sun). He's looking a lot like Tim Curry these days. Funny funny man. Weird the whole straight guy who is a transvestite thing though - I find that very very hard to understand. Likes women, wants to wear lipstick. Umm...

He's been doing that show 'The Riches' with Minnie Driver - I haven't watched it and I think it's probably cancelled by now. He does comedy and acting. The Monty Python guys said he's their lost Python/Python they never had as a member. Funny/strange.

Anyway, if you ever need to laugh very hard (it's supposed to be healthy), rent one of his comedy videos.

'Moonlight' tonight - they're re-airing the 2nd episode (so I can see it and tape it this time around). And then the next 2 weeks are two new episode and then.. pfft! Until the strike settles and they can make more (if CBS doesn't decide to cancel it, but I don't think they will, it's very popular).

that is a tight squeeze ML. If we have that many people then it's always, everybody brings something and 'fumble and drop' as my uncle and therefore all of us call it. We fill our plate, grab a chair or a piece of floor and eat off our laps.

Spooky out tonight. We're having 'the Mist' - or maybe it's 'the Fog' - either way, went out to walk the dog and thought I'd stumbled into horror movie weather! Kept expecting Jack the Ripper to come out of the fog. Oh well, if Jack started anything, I like to think the dog would have come to my rescue.

Hey all!
So how many spelling mistakes do I have? Is it bad? Imagine if I had one writing that sentence. I hope it's not that bad....
I can talk my hart out in English but I def know I have some grammar issues... But then... a lot of times when I run into this tricky word I go back and check how you guys write it..... so without you guys and an English-Hebrew net Dictionary I have on al the time it would be a lot worse....
But then if I didn't have this place I wouldn't be able to practice what I do know..... so....
My bro is home today so I'm making lunch while writing this so.... who knows how this one will work out....

ML, big families in small houses is the way to go in my opinion! Sorry that no one tried your cake . It sounded wonderful so I know I would have.
Sorry to hear there's nothing to see on TV at nights! We still do but if this won't be solved soon it'll be the same over here... but then there are always the shows from over here so we won't be noticing the strike that much.
Oh BTW they have made this Israeli version of Survivor and it's just sooooo bad! I mean REALLY bad! They made everything much slower which also means they've made everything much more boring so it's really bad! And I like to watch the American version so that's totally weird.
Oh my mom just loves that movie! Shalom (Shooly - that's how everyone in the Israeli movie industry know him) Rand and his wife (in real-life and movie) Michal Bat Sheva Rand became to be really religious and this is the 1st and only movie they've made since they became such. They play in the movie characters that are really close to who they really are. It's a cool movie and it's really hard to find a movie even in Israel that shows life in the religious community as they really are. Anyway great well done movie.
Have fun watching those Blood Ties eps!

mezz, thanks a lot for offering but I'll be fine asking around here. I know this girl from my French class and she's British so I'll be able to ask her. It would probably be faster too.
That is some way to go. But if he was an elephant trainer then he probably liked doing that. So at least he died doing something he liked. Not to many people get to have that.

podmommy, I bet the cat was just so adorable running around and exploring. That is weird that your sis didn't get any allergic reactions to the cat. But that's good or things could have been complicated.
Thanks for saying that… but I really don't think that the people I'm taking the test for will think my spelling mistakes are charming… and there for I have to get better on that one.
You're right! Being here and typing and reading def helps! I mean I would have probably lose my ability in English if I didn't come here.
Loved the elephant and the sneakers gif!

Wen, so happy to hear Christmas dinner went so well and that everyone enjoyed the dinner you've made! It's always fun to get compliments.
That's scary about the Tiger getting loose! But then it makes sense they killed him if they weren't able to catch him after a while. I'm sure they would have rather to just get him into the cage… but I guess they just couldn't.

Once a tiger has killed people, it probably makes it more dangerous too. Not that I'm any expert on tigers. I was surprised when I saw tigers swimming in the river in Florida at a theme park - I thought all cats hated water, but I guess tigers like to swim.

I went out and had lunch with my 4 Star Trek fan friends - we've stayed friends for about 25 years (before my daughter was born). We used to get together about once a month, but it gets longer and longer before we manage to get together. We went out for Chinese food together and uggh it made me so ill - bad Chinese food! But good company! :>

Stupid holiday that I have to work tomorrow and not Tuesday. Poor MLette has to work Monday and Tuesday - no day off for New Years at all. A lot of the people who take care of the goofie folks are 7th Day Adventists (from Haiti), and New Years is a big religious holiday for them (or at least that's the excuse they gave for taking time off! LOL!)

We're due to get another enormous snow storm any minute tonight! I knew this mild weather and rain instead of snow was too good to last for long. I hope it's not too big of a mess tomorrow. It will give a lot of people an excuse to stay home from work.

Your English is very good VB - better than any of us would ever write in Hebrew! LOL! I'd read that about the actor and his wife getting religious and giving up acting, but this movie met with their approval so they did it. I watched one of those silly 'Best TV Commercial' shows and they showed a funny TV commercial from Israel too (guy dates a woman with a giant nose and then looks up plastic surgeons (you think for his girlfriend) but he goes and gets a giant nose to match instead). LOL! Silly! I couldn't believe there was so nothing on I was watching TV commercials as a show.

to all the JOFs & JITs!

I am back in Montreal now! Had a great time in Vancouver! Came back yesterday. Was the typical leave my brother's place at 6:30am and get to my place at about 10pm. Changed planes in Toronto and had to wait awhile between flights, etc., etc. Am still sort of sleepy.

Will be back later with a catch up type post.

Scanned the thread though... and it feels very nice that you guys were thinking of me!

that's cool VB glad that you've got someone to help you over there.

here's to 2008...

'Tis the Set of the Sail

One ship sails east and another sails west
with the selfsame winds that blow.
'Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales
Which determine the way they go.

Like the winds of the seas are the ways of fate,
As we voyage along through life; 'Tis the set of the soul
That determines the goal,
and not the calm or the strife.
