Hey all!!

Want to know the problem with getting a job and then not (losing it or whatever) having one? You have to get used to not having one again. I already got used to waking up early and now I still can't sleep past 7:00 am… which is annoying considering I can. I guess that's actually a good thing if I get a job in the next week or so (that's how long it takes me to get used to it again).

Well, we now have upgrade cable… but it doesn't work in one of the TVs… so guess who has to know what's wrong with everything. I have no idea why my dad expect me to know what's wrong when something electronic stops working… it's not like I studied or something…
I'm gonna call the support today… I did call them yesterday and they are sending someone but I noticed something today so maybe we won't have to wait…

Wen, we have problems with parking around here too. Our street in a very narrow one and people insist on parking on both sides of the road… they completely ignore laws and park wherever they feel like it and that's causing a big problem… but of course they don't care….
About the rude neighbors!

That's very nice of you to send your car to cherity! I don't think people over here do that. Actually it's the 1st time I've ever heard about that. Anyway that's so wonderful that you do that.

I hope all of the car issues will work out ok.

ML, well I was thinking to stay only until the end of the month and was already thinking of ways to let him know that. I guess he just decided to speed things up and in a way I get him. I kept seeing resumes coming in so I'm actually assuming he kept looking, not sure about that but he just called me in and said they don't want me in tomorrow… so I'm guessing he already has someone in mind.
Anyway that one's gone. Here's for a better one next time.

Well my grandma's not big but she did gain a little weight and she did fall on her wrist (just like your boss did) so it make sense. Thing is that now she complains all the time that she should be stronger and suddenly she's eating salads and staying that we should eat this and that (we're talking about a woman who wouldn't take a piece of tomato). I keep trying to tell her that it won't make her some sort of a super-woman but she just won't listen…. I guess we'll just have to keep our eye open on that one.

Congrats on the new car! And I'm sorry to hear about everything you guys went through. But hey! You MLette has a new car so that's great!

Oh yea! That Japanese game show is just sooo idiotic! We have a version of that too. I never watched it and not planning to but I know it's out there.

Yea… looking for a job is definitely hard… You have to send like dozens of resumes and you'll be lucky to get one e-mail or phone call. I hope he'll get a job soon.

podmommy, I know what you mean. Sometimes it's almost impossible to catch up. But I'm happy for that because it means we're not going anywhere.

Sorry to hear about how worried you are about Em. I'd get worried too. It doesn't seem like too much fun to ride on a plain when there's a lightning storm out. I hope she's DC by now and that you're all calmed down.

all

Poddy, I too hope Emily is safe and sound in DC by now and in the comfort in her new apt.

Ya know, you never stop worrying about your kids, then it's your grandkids, and then it's your great-grandkids...it never ends!

Vero, I'm sorry the job didn't work out. But really, you were so over qualified for that job anyway. I mean with your degrees, you were educated for greater things! It's just too bad that you can't find something in the field of your studies.

And I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandma breaking her wrist. Sending Healing Vibes her way for a speedy recovery.

MyrnaLynne, Congrats to MLette on her new car! Wow! She really did find a treasure! A 2005 Camry with only 21,000 miles on it! That's fantastic!!! Must have been driven by the little old lady from Pasadena to have that little milage on it! LOL!

I wish her all the Best of Luck with her new car.

hugs to all,
Wen

Well, she has the car but she doesn't have the car yet, because she has to get car insurance first, and it was totally stressing her out yesterday - our state just deregulated the insurance so instead of one or two companies, there are dozens - but strangely, the rates aren't cheaper, they seem higher! So she's trying to shop around and get a good deal, but she needs insurance RIGHT NOW so they can get her the license plates/she can take the car home, etc, and she's taking her time, shopping around, and of course the agents aren't that fast to call her back, and she has to work, she can't spend all day looking for car insurance. sigh. And the car dealer guy is calling asking her if she has the insurance yet, trying to hurry her along. Princess MLette cannot be rushed! LOL!

They also told her that her rate will go down in a few days because of something or other (she has a birthday coming up) - but she can't wait too many days, because once they sell the car, the car place is very anxious to get it off the lot and make room for more cars to sell, etc., to complete the deal.

Anyway, she was very stressed out yesterday, and since it takes a day to get the license plates, once she has insurance, if she gets the insurance Friday, she won't be able to get the car til Mon or Tues, because of course the government doesn't work on Saturdays. Sorry, long story! But it means she doesn't have her car yet and she's stressed out. You wouldn't believe the price they want her to pay for car insurance - $2-3 thousand dollars! I don't blame her for wanting to shop around!

I know other states do it differently - in California, I think the dealer just gives you a paper 'dealer plate' and you can drive home with the car and you get the license plates later through the mail or something. Much more sensible! As usual, our state has to do it in a difficult way - but if they didn't insist you had car insurance before you drive away - there would be way more people without car insurance! I told her to just get SOMETHING so she can get the car, and then she can research a better rate/company at her leisure and change companies. Oh well... it's always ironing out the details that is the hard part. Once she is all set with her car and insurance, I'm going to see if I can get a better deal for me and Mr ML again, now that she'll be off our policy (yay!)

Podmom, poor Em stuck on a plane! We've had so many thunderstorm too. That just happened to my friend from NM - she was going to California and the plane stopped in Phoenix and her flight was delayed, first 90 min, then 2 hrs, then 3 hours - but at least she was in the terminal and not sitting on a plane - but she said they must have been saving $ on air conditioning because the airport was hot and stuffy there. She got there eventually - I hope Emily got where she was going okay - and of course she had a couple of cute guys to keep her company.

Oh, I always thought you reminded me of somebody but I couldn't think who, and then I read an article about Cybil Shepard yesterday and that's it! Poddy looks like Cybil Shepard (only without the mouthiness and the wackiness of course!)

VB funny your dad thinks you are an expert on electronics - probably because you know how to use the computer etc. And LOL about Grandma trying to get strong with vegetables - maybe she should eat spinach, like Popeye the Sailor?

The ad for 'Eureka' up top is so adorable - a singing and dancing thing like on 'Eli Stone' to Mr Roger's Neighborhood song. Very cute. Must have been really fun for the actors to do, too - something different. Underneath the surface of most actors are people who want to be in a musical. (Except for the tone deaf/two-left feet ones of course).

Oh gosh, my computer mouse just got 'stuck' - I hope it's not dying! That would be a pain.

Oh Wen I've seen Cap'n Jack's boyfriend/sig other and he is very cute - a nice couple. There's a video on YouTube, he did some gay pride thing and brought the guy up and introduced him and planted a big smooch on him for the crowd. Very nice. But oddly, I read he's not in favor of gay marriage per se (I think they are 'domestic partners' or whatever) - doesn't see any need for matrimony - but then the church and state are tied up a lot closer in the UK. Something about not buying into a system that rejects them or whatever.

It's been very stormy - torrential rains, thunder storm. It was pouring and booming when I got up - and then it stopped, while I walked the dog - and then it boomed and poured again - and then it stopped when I left for work - very very lucky! Looks like it's finished raining. Boy is it wet here, with all this hard rain. Mushrooms are growing! LOL!

Maggie is off taking a cruise with her sister/family! I miss her! Hope she's having a great time!

VB - wow, I'm so sorry you lost your job, but like everyone else has said, the one you want will come along. I'm glad that you got let go fairly quickly if both you and your employer were thinking the same thing, tht it just wasn't working. But how unfair was it that they gave you almost no training, expected you to do the maid's work and then got mad at you when you made mistakes? Had they trained you correctly, treated you fairly and been more communicative with you, I'm sure you would have made a good employee. But since you didn't like the job anyway, you're right, it made things easier. But LOL now you're trained to get up early! Don't worry, you'll soon be able to sleep in again, it'll just take a few days.

Sorry about your grandma's wrist, I hope she heals quickly.

Congrats to MLette on her new car! Well...her almost in the driveway new car.

Podmom - my son's friend works at Southwest Airlines at BWI airport and last night he had to spend the night at the airport b/c so many flights were cancelled and he had to work until things got cleared up. But then his next shift began at 6 am, so he just spent the night there. He is a baggage guy plus he guides the planes out of the gate onto the runways. It was crazy weather last night!

Wen - glad Mother thinks I'm cute! Not feeling so cute these days though. i'm in the process of growing my hair out. I'm not sure why I think that's such a good idea, but now that it's growing I'm bound and determined that I'm going to get on with it. So I'm having lots and lots of bad hair days and feeling so not cute as a result! I've worn my hair short for so many years and I got sick of not being able to do anything else with my hair so I wanted a change. It's almost down to my shoulders now and that's saying a lot for me!

I hope Maggie's having a wonderful time on the cruise!

I'm leaving on Saturday for a two week vacation (yes, I know, AGAIN!) with my extended family. We're going to the beach in Delaware. My dad, Uncle Louie, three of my cousins, my niece, her little boy, my sis and her family are all going (but we're staying in different places, three places total). One of my nieces is also driving up from Florida to see a girlfriend of her's who lives about 1.5 hours from where we're staying, so she's driving over for the day on Aug 4th to see the family. She has a 5 year old named Cecilia who's the most adorable little thing you've ever met. She also just had her second child last December, a little boy named Alexander (and their last name is Bell...) who they call Alex. I've never met Alex, so I'm excited to see them. So I'll be around when I come back, but I'll miss you all!

Hopefully when I come back Jason will have gotten a wonderful acting gig that will make us all swoon with happiness. I hope and wish for all the best for him and we need to see him!

Scottie growing out hair is the worst! It just gets to that halfway point where you can't stand it anymore - I've tried to grow it a few times and end up hacking it off again during the bad-hair day part! LOL! Good luck with seeing it through til it's the way you want it.

How tough to be stranded working at the airport all night, with all those crabby unhappy passengers. Flying is no picnic anymore for anybody.

Another family trip! How fun! I've never seen them but the Delaware beaches are supposed to be very nice. Mr ML's family lives near there, but we always drive the other way instead of going to the coast and taking a ferry. Some day I'd like to see those beaches! And the ones in Jersey too.

Woo - MLette managed to get her car insurance taken care of today (cost her an arm and a leg - but in a few more weeks, it will go down $1500! Not sure if it's her birthday or she'll have been driving a certain number of years - their rules are a mystery) -She ended up with the company where we have our car and house insurance. So tomorrow we can pick up the car! Of course she still has to get the city parking permit sticker, and the required inspection for the insurance company (that's aside from the annual state inspection), yadda yadda, it's so complicated, I'm surprised so many people have cars!

Yes, I hope we see Jason again soon in a nice project.

That 'Mama Mia' movie got lukewarm reviews, but I still think I'd enjoy seeing it. Not sure about the Ben Stiller movie in the jungle. Or the X-File movie - I was never a fan of the show, but it probably is a good movie. I think the rest of the family liked X-Files.

Gosh did we have crazy weather today - torrential rain - and then it would stop, and be sunny and then torrential rain again, and then wild wind - and then sun - and then it was pouring again. I think it's the remnants of Hurricane Dolly from down in Texas. They had a tornado hit up in New Hampshire, Mr ML said. It is sooo wet. But not hot! I don't mind, as long as it's not 90 and humid.

MyrnaLynne, I'm glad to hear that MLette got insurance so that she can get her car now and bring it home! How exciting!

But Geesh! Can MA have any more inspections or what?!!!

It's so much more simple in CA... just one smog inspection and that's it. And the dealer takes care of that!

And about the car insurance... as long as you already have insurance ... say on another car, then you are already insured on ANY car that you drive for 14 days. That way if you buy another car, you are already insured, and you can drive right off the lot with it. Then you can go to your insurance place and get insurance for it, and the info is electronically sent over to the DMV and then they send you your tags in the mail. Really simple.

Also the plates are already on the car if the car is used. If the car is new, then there are no plates, just the name of the dealership is displayed in their place until the DMV gets all the paperwork done and then the new plates come in the mail with your tags & registration papers. Again, really simple.

So if MLette lived in CA, she'd already have her car... she would have driven it home the night she bought it! I don't know why MA has to make it so difficult.

I read that 'Twilight' had a sneak preview of the actors somewhere and there was a crowd that were camping out to see them... lots of teens to see them, and they were saying that the actor they chose (from Harry Potter) was perfect to be Edward, altho' he didn't look all that hot to me, IMHO. But maybe he'll do a good job, who knows?
Did you hear about it?

And Wow! NH had a tornado?!!! That's unheard of! What Crazy weather!

At least you lucked out and didn't get soaked yesterday with the downpours! Yep, crazy weather.

Scottie, Good luck with growing your hair out! It's hard when it's in that inbetween stage. I know it can make you crazy, but hang in there. I know you can do it!

And yes, MOTHER really does think you are so cute! And of course she thinks you are so sweet for saying Hi to her too! She loves to hear up dates on all of you, as I tell her about you all and what you all are up too. She just loves that!

Have a wonderful time on vacation! We'll miss you too!

Poddy!

TGIF Everyone! Hope Everyone has a Great Day!

Hugs to All,
Wen

Checking in for a quickie! A friend of mine sent me this YouTube link and it's so adorable I just had to share it with you guys!

YouTube - Lets see the Dog Whisperer do this!!

So sad to hear that Randy Pausch finally sucummed to his pancreatic cancer today. RIP Randy, you were a wonderful, bright, loving man.

Thanks guys, for the growing the hair out sympathy. I'm hating the humidity of the summer, it was much easier when we had like zero humidity in the winter.

ML - I heard about the NH tornado! Global warming? Makes you wonder what's up with the weather craziness. So glad MLette can pick up her car tomorrow and that her insurance will be going down. Car insurance is a necessary evil!

Podmom - I'll stand along the shoreline tomorrow and wave to you up north! Have fun with Poddad!

Wen - have a wonderful weekend yourself and tell Mother that I said hi again! I'll check in when I get home next month.

Love that man singing the pups to sleep with 'Goodnight, Sweetheart'!

We left work at noon and got Mr ML and stopped for lunch on the way up and then got the car. I drove home with MLette. Nice comfy smooth-riding car, very executive-looking. I hope she drives it many miles in safety! LOL, she drove very very sedately in the slow lane the whole way.

Oh, sad thing from my work, one of the young doctors, 31, got killed riding a stupid motorcycle. What a waste! His wife, also a doctor, was riding with him and she got badly hurt. Stupid motorcyles!

Time with Podad at the OC, Vivless and with galpals, sounds wonderful. That's such a magical place for you.

MLette mentioned that the 'last lecture' professor had died. Sad.

I think the population of California is so big, they have to do things with cars a different way than here. Your way is a lot simpler and more sensible!

I've never heard of tornadoes around here - I hope this isn't going to be a new thing that continues!

Mr ML rented 'The Spyderwick Chronicles' movie - - Not a very good movie. For kids, but probably too scary for kids. Just annoyed me a lot. Even the 'extra stuff' was too annoying to watch.

Poor Em to get home at 2:30 am and then head off to work - only for the young, that sort of thing!

Wishing everybody a great weekend. It was nice starting it early. I was amazed at how many people were clogging the roads - I think a lot of people knock off early Fridays. Ooo, and I found out Mrs Boss is taking a week off in a few weeks - that will be nice (no work from her, I can get caught up on the other work, maybe take a few days off too).

I too was involved in the early Fri clogging ML as I drove down here Good for Mlette for being a safe driver!!!! Liz is fast..... Em is slowish. It is magical for me in OC alot of the time but I am now feeling nervous about the visito rs...it is really small and so not fancy....way not fancy...hope they can hack it!

I believe in GW but man the ocean here has been way way freezing all summer(unlike last summer when it was weirdly warm) when I have only been in twice so far it IS cold bumming me out. I'm still struggling emotionally............feel like this ....just the whole ball of my particular wax

back Scottie

back Wen

Mr ML Jr is a bad driver - he zooms up behind cars, fast/tailgates, and then stomps on the brakes! No wonder he's worn his brakes down already. I don't know where he got into that bad habit - I taught him to drive and he did it very well. Probably from his best friend, who drives like a crazy maniac. Didn't have any luck teaching MLette and she ended up going to a driver training place and got her license when she finished college. Well, she was kind of busy being sick/getting well during prime driver training years. Oh well, I think Mr ML is a terrible driver, but, well he's a 'Boston driver' - scares the pants off me with some of the driving stuff he does! But he thinks he's a marvelous driver because of his 'quick reflexes' - some day his reflexes won't be so quick and we'll be in a flaming car crash.

HUGS because you're feeling like a choking kitty, Podmom! I'm sure your friends want to see you and don't care if the place is fancy or not - it is a beach place and those usually are pretty casual/rustic. I'm sure it will be okay! HUGS!

Ooo, MLette wanted to try a new mall today that had some store, Steve & Barry with cheap clothes. Cheap! Everything is $8.98 (which is probably why I just read they filed for bankruptcy). Upside is they're cheap, downside is - they're cheap! Cheap terrible clothes there! We didn't buy anything. Nothing fit right, everything was, well, really cheap.

But - the mall had that shoe store with the wild and crazy Chuck Taylors I liked but didn't buy (and then kept thinking about), and they only had 2 pairs left, and 1 was my size (in fact one was in the box, one was on the rack at the front of the store and I marched out and grabbed it off the display and tried it on) and they fit and I got them! The ones with sparkles (hot pink and gold) and unicorns and butterfly fabric. etc. LOL, I don't know if anybody watches 'Entourage' but the guy Turtle wanted these designer sneakers by this famous sneaker guy, and the handsome actor boy Vinnie (Andrian Grenier, who just turned 30 this month) paid a fortune to get him some - these sneakers remind me of those - glam rock star shoes. :> They are just me all over!

No, Wen meant to say earlier I didn't see anything about the 'Twilight' movie but nothing would surprise me - these books are wildly popular - hugely popular with crazed devoted fans! Hmm, sound familiar? I don't think that actor is all that either, but I think he's good for the role and of course now the gals are crazy for him (I don't get the attraction of David Tennant the new Dr Who either - he seems to be all ears and nose and googgly eyes and spiky hair to me.)

Speaking of fans, I decided to get new (used) editions of Tanya Huff's Blood Ties books, that have the cover pictures with the TV cast (like the Roswell High books) and then MLette sold my two-in-one copies online - somebody already bought one! Glad somebody else will enjoy them - I read them so many times over, I'm surprised the words are still on the pages. Now I've been doing that with the Twilight books - just a great story! And the last installment of the series comes out/arrives in a couple of weeks!

Hey all!

Thanks everyone for the get well wishing for my grandma.
Went shopping with my sis on Friday, which was very nice. Bought a nice pair of pants and some mascara which I was looking for a while now. It was nice.

Wen, well I'm still looking for something in me field but as I do that I also look for something to do until I'll find something there. I know I have a lot to give especially when it comes to communications but I also need to have some sort of experience so a job is necessary anyway.

ML, happy to hear MLette found a good insurance deal! It's very good that she's checked a lot of deals. Sorry to hear she's been running around with all of those preps. But apparently it paid off.

Well I've been trying to tune down her hopes… there's no way she could go running down the streets and she just keep looking for a magic cure to get her youth back (or so it seems)…

That's so sad about that Dr. working with you. Motorcycle are definitely dangerous and you have to be very careful with them.

Scottie, thanks for the support. I'm actually pretty happy I don't have to get back over there. And about sleeping late… I'm getting there… slowly but surely.

Good luck growing your hair. When you grow it from shot hair it can definitely be tricky for a while there. And growing it in the summer is just bad! With all of the heat and humidity it's not very comfortable…

I hope you're having a wonderful time on your vacation! It sounds like so much fun being with everyone on the beach…

That was such a sweet video! It was just so sweet how he sang to them and they just fell asleep.

podmommy, happy to hear Em got there safely. And that's great that she enjoyed her 1st day of work (especially after landing at 2:30 am). I'm so happy to hear that!

Hope you're having a good time in OC and that it makes you feel better!

all

Well I finally have some real time to post and catch up while podad is nappingon the couch....he can sleep anywhereany time....wish I could

Since the water is so cold and storms predicted we just had a relaxing morning hanging then got to work reapolstering the 4 chairs I got for the old/new to us wrought irn table and chairs I gor for the porch. It was a big help doing it together. I had found the perfect color in a material I didn't know exsisted but the nice lady at the fabric store told me about. Marine grade vinyl like they use to make boat cusions...so repels water and breaths. Also got foam padding. SO we took the 3 layers of old material off then cut and stappled the new stuff on the wood board. They really look good. While we went to get staples we stopped at an antique store and found a great little table that is tile in the shape of a shell and a metal base....only problem is the metal base is black so the idea is to paint it white to match the other porch furnishings.....anybody out there ever spray paint metal? Wondering if I'm being too optomistic.

I'm gonna post this....take a picture and try to post that here so you get the idea.......

the orange in that table is bugging me a little too......any thoughts? It takes a village to decorate my porch
