ML and Wen - thanks for the welcome home!

Wen - it was a nice, long vacation. I needed that! Wow, 111 degrees is HOT! How do you stand that? I think it's too hot for me at around 90 degrees, I tend to wilt. Last night at my exercise class we were dripping when we finished. My studio just doesn't keep the a/c low enough for me. We run fans, but they oscilate so when it's not directed at you, it's hot!

ML - I used to like Get Smart too, I hope I like it if/when I get to see it.

I've got like ten minutes left of my day at work, but I just had to check in. I'm like the one-armed paper hanger today, but it's been good to be busy.

So toodles until tomorrow!

UGH! It's 7:30pm and it's still 109*!

Scottie, I'm so glad you enjoyed your vacation. I'm sure it's tough to get back into the groove at work after a nice vacation.

You asked how I can stand the heat? Well, I try to avoid it as much as possible with A/C... whether it be in the car, or the house, or the stores.

When it goes into high triple digits, I try not to even leave the house unless it's absolutely needed. Like tomorrow... I have a Dr.'s appt... UGH!

Double UGH! Just found out it's going to be 117* tomorrow!

Hope Everyone is having a Great Week!

Hugs,
Wen

Hey all!!!

Well everyone! I did it! I finally land a job! It's not my dream job, just being a secretary at this import company for electronic whatevers. It seems nice enough and so are the people but their secretary's leaving in like a week so I won't have too much time to learn a lot from her… Oh well right now I'm just happy to have a pay-check. Or at least I'll have one at the end of the month.

I also went shopping with my mom sister and dad… and found those really cute pair of shoes! They were a little pricey but I think they were sweet. Of course my mom didn't like them… but she usually doesn't like stuff I get alone… so that's cool.

Scottie welcome home!!! So how was camping? I bet it was great! I didn't get to go camping in years! It's a lot of fun but yes… a lot of laundry to deal with later. Whenever we go on a vacation when we come back we always have lot's of laundry too! Way to go for doing so much since you came back!
Happy to see you!

ML, I'm so sorry that Evil Chapter thing is still there! I hope it will be over with soon!
Happy you got to relax a little at the movies. That's always good. Even if the movie wasn't that great (I didn't get if it was you too or only your SIL that thought that it wasn't that great). And yep! Movies do cost a lot to go to these days.

So Kyle won't be in that convention you're going to soon? I didn't get if that was your convention or another one…. I don't get a lot of things today… maybe it's the fact I just woke up. Anyway I hope you'll have a good time!

Wen, 111?? That's like over 45C right? That's way to hot to do anything… not to mention leave the house if you don't have to… But I guess that's summer over there… it's like Eilat (at the south) over here… but people in the center have it pretty bad too.

Well that's that for now.

Vero! Congrats on landing a job! Is it a permenant job or temporary? The way it sounds, it's permenant! Either way...Way to go!

I'm glad you like it so far. That always helps!

And I'm glad you got a new cute pair of shoes! That's always fun to find a new pair of shoes that you like.

And yes, it's been hot as Hell here! It went to 113* today instead of the predicted 117*. But once it's that hot, it's just HOT and miserable! It's been humid too because of the fires. UGH! Just awful! We're not used to humidity so it's even worse for us.

The nights aren't cooling down like they usually do... only cooling down to the mid 70's if we're lucky, but it doesn't stay those temps for long.

At 8:00am this morning, it was already 90*! UGH!

Tomorrow it's suppose to go to 111* and I'm not looking forward to that.

But next week they are predicting our weather to go back into the 90's. I sure hope so! These terrible triple digits are awful!

Good luck with your New Job!

Hugs to All,
Wen

THE EVIL CHAPTER IS DONE!!!!

I am so going to go out and celebrate somehow (aside from throwing away the bazillion versions that were stacked on my desk into the recycling, that was like a party)

Well the day before I waited all day for him to come by, didn't have lunch, then he called to say he was tired, wasn't coming by, we'd work on the phone - then NOTHING - he didn't come, he didn't call... Then, first thing in the morning when I get here, he called and said "I'm in the car, on my way over"

Anyway, he was doing a little better (arm in a cast) and we spent the morning painfully hashing out the chapter and adding the references... I was quite the taskmaster and got him through it to our mutual satisfaction.

Then he semi-jokingly said he was going to have another (way bigger) chapter to update soon. No more! Not EVER doing this again for him!

I just finished editing it, numbering it, REnumbering it (re-renumbering it), and sent it off. It's 4 months past the deadline and if theystill take it, I'll be surprised, but then Mr Boss is pretty highly regarded in his field.

Ooo, other cool thing is our medical journal was finally assigned an 'impact factor today (value on how much it's read, how often articles are references, its status in the field, etc) and it was pretty good! I guess somebody actually reads this thing (except me, and I only do it because I have to!)

Plus, I just finished proofreading the whole next issue and sent it off, so THAT's done as well (and I could throw away all the papers that had to do with that)

VB mazel tov on the job! You've been searching for a long time. I hope Mr ML Jr will get one next too (your luck will rub off on him?) And new shoes! I just got new shoes last night too and I love them. They are sort of slip-on Mary Jane type shoes by Clark and sooo comfortable. And make my feet look so cute, too. Feet are in heaven!

Sorry I was confusing. My SIL thought that Get Smart movie was hilarious - we enjoyed it, but it was just okay, didn't laugh every second like she did. And Kyle is still coming to Boston next week (yay!), and I still hope to see him, but he cancelled for Pittsburgh, the next convention, so lots of other people are very disappointed. I'm not sure these convention people know what they are doing - it's a new convention/new company and their 'learning curve' has been very steep!! I hope it isn't a disorganize annoying mess, when we go there!

HUGS to Poddy that you are feeling so down - let go and let G-d as they say, put your troubles on Him (or Her?) You need to take a break and pamper yourself!

We got another 'Torchwood' I watched last night - it was HOT HOT HOT here, but not as bad as poor Wen has it, only 90ish. Boy, that one episode of Torchwood was SCARY! And gruesome. It was a horror/haunted house type thing with lots of blood and gore. Ewww! Only Captain Jack's cute smile keeps me watching!

Scottie we'll see you when you dig out from under, from vacation. Now I have to do all the work I haven't been able to do because this Evil EVIL chapter has been dogging me for a month or more.

It's done - woohoo! Of course, they could still send it back and ask him to fix some things... I hope not! The last two times he did a chapter, they rejected it (because he didn't give me the directions) and I had to do it ALL OVER again. Oh I'm so not doing this ever again!

Hello to all the JOFs & JIts!

I have been a very very bad missing in action JOF for the last while. Been very busy! Went to Toronto for my friend Karen's book launch. Went to the Jazz Festival a couple of times. Saw Sarah Slean and Tricia Boutte and Steely Dan. Went to Steely Dan with Fearless Leader. All the concerts were awesome! Though am still wondering why Steely Dan didn't play any of their hits.

Oh and I had a fit of the crazies and am goint to NYC/NJ tomorrow! Going to the Bon Jovi concert at Central Park!!! Also going to 2 Bon Jovi concerts at Madison Square Gardens! Yep... still two timing Jason with another married... but older guy!

Vered Congratulations on your new job!

Scottie: Welcome back.

MyrnaLynne: [[[[HUGS]]]] about the EVIL CHAPTER!!!

Have to go to sleep soon.

Hope that you all are doing well!

to all the JOFs & JITS!

MyrnaLynne! I'm so glad to hear that the Evil Chapter is finished! And way to go to keep Mr. Boss on track and on the straight and narrow to get the Evil Chapter done! You poor thing worked so hard on that darn thing. I'm so glad it's finally over with!

Too bad it set you behind on your other work. Seems tho' that you'll whip right thru' it in no time as you are such a wiz at your job.

And yes, Torchwood is rather dark but I too love Captain Jack! But my Favorite is Doctor Who! Been watching it since it started and I LOVE it!!! Captain Jack 1st appeared on Doctor Who... (that's how he got his own show.)

I Loved Chris Eckelson as the Doctor and was crushed when he left, but now I love the new Doctor, David Tennent, just as much! It's an excellent show IMHO, and I NEVER miss it!

But then again, I've been a Doctor Who fan for years. My No.2 son and I used to watch it together years ago, but now Lainie, he and I watch the New Doctor Who eppies and we all love it!

Well, they predicted 111* today, but it only went to 106*... HA! ONLY!... UGH! I'll be glad when we go back into the 90's, in which they are predicting for next week. I can't wait!

Poddy, Thanks for the little cool gif! LOL! Yes, I could use some snow right about now! LOL!

I'm glad you took a day for yourself... just for you. You really needed that. You are always doing for others, and you really needed a "YOU" day, Bless your heart. I'm sure it helped a lot!

Oh, and the show I think you are talking about is "Pushing Up Daisies" or something like that. I never did watch it, but I remember it from the commercials.

And I'm sooo Happy that Heroes is coming back on in the Fall! I really like that show!

Maggie, It's sooo good to see you! Enjoy your concerts!

Vero, Scottie, McAnt, FL, Mezzi, and All the JOF's and JIT's!

Hugs,
Wen

Hey all!!!

Thanks everyone for the congrats (and for the mazl tov ML!) on my new job! I'm really nervous about everything… I know I have nothing to be nervous about because the boss kept telling me that they expect me to ask questions especially at the beginning and I'll have the secretary there for the 1st week and it doesn't seem complicated… but I'm still nervous. The only down side is that I probably won't be able to come over here as often as I usually do… but I'll definitely try to.

Wen, well it's supposed to be a permanent job… and they obviously don't want me to leave like after a month… or 6… the deal is that I start on Sunday and if everything'll work out I'll stay… a month for trial and then 4 moths before I get a raise… I very nervous about it all…

I'm so sorry about all of the heat you're dealing with… but I guess there really is nothing to do about that… well unless you want to move. Just stay cool (and with the a/c!).

podmommy, I hope you're feeling much better by now. Sometimes that's exactly what you need. Just let go of everything and let them fall into place (or let G-D take charge and make them fall into place). Anyway I hope everything's ok now.

Oh I'll definitely will enjoy the paycheck! Can't wait for my 1st one! I just can't wait to shopping! I haven't really been able to without thinking to much about weather I should or not…

Well it definitely seems like TV's not that great lately (did I mention that I can't wait for Prison Break to come back? )… my mom told me about this show where they ask the people there a bunch of questions while they're attached to lie detector and the one who speaks the truth wins…. Stupid really… I keep waiting for them to create something really good and that's what they come up with… brilliant! NOT!

ML, happy to hear the Evil Chapter is done! I hope you won't have to deal with that one ever again! Have a great time celebrating! Crossing all of my fingers so that they won't reject it and make you work on it again.

Well Mika (my sister) definitely believes that me getting a job is bringing her good luck. She looked for a pair of shoes for a long time now and the day I had the final talk with my (now)boss and went shoe shopping she found the (what she calls) prefect pair of shoes she ever saw. So maybe ML jr. will get luck of it too.

Thanks for explaining about 'Get Smart' (not everyone love every movie the same) and about Kyle (happy to hear he'll be there for your weekend! ).

Mags!!! I was thinking about you this week! Just wandering how you were doing and all. So happy you stopped by!

And that will be a busy time for you in NYC/NJ! I bet you'll have a wonderful time in all of those cocerts!

Well that's it for now… Have to get ready for Shabath.

Have a great weekend all!!!

Well, nobody was up for celebrating when I got home, so maybe we'll do something this weekend - or maybe I'll get myself an ice cream sundae at the cafeteria for lunch (although I usually do that more when I'm stressed out than happy). But it's still a great relief not to have that endless job hanging over my head - he just couldn't finish it by himself - he just couldn't put the references to the paper - and he thought if he handed me a stack of articles, I could do it for him! I haven't read those articles! I didnt' write the paper. I'm not the expert on the subject... Oh well... letting it go now!!

I saw a great sign in a catalog last night and thought of you Poddy - It said something like "Hello, this is G-d. I'm going to be handling everything today, so you don't have to worry about it. Go and have a nice day!"

'Blood Ties' does have a lot of humor to it, a lot of snappy repartee, and it is quite like Buffy, with the 'occult crimes' and stuff going on the normal world doesn't have a clue about (and Tanya Huff wrote those books before Buffy was a gleam in Joss Whedon's eye, so she didn't steal it from him). Henry really is a very lovely vampire - yes, he does drink blood, but never takes enough to kill anybody, and his 'victims' usually enjoy themselves/don't remember what happened (he is very sexy and has that vampire 'mind trick' power). He's just the sidekick/competing boyfriend and the lady detective is the main person, like Buffy. It's a really good show. The DVD isn't out yet in the US (they released it in UK first - no fair!) I'm hoping it comes out soon! I'll be here woo-hooing when it's released.

Hmm, I still haven't watched 'Tattooist' yet. Mr ML has started renting DVDs and is always in there now, watching them. grumble. When he gets on a 'kick' that's all the does. Hmm, sounds familiar! LOL!

Hugs VB because you are so nervous about the new job! Job hunting is very nervewracking and starting at a new place is always difficult, until you get used to the people, and the work, and the schedule. Don't worry - even if you make some mistakes, they will understand it is because you are new and not think you are dumb or anything! I'm sure you'll be terrific. You did a great job at the lawyer's place when that pregnant lady left, you will pick this up in no time and be GREAT!

And have a lovely Shabbat. I was just talking about you to MLette last night, about how you have to clean the house every week for Shabbat (and maybe if we did that, the place wouldn't be such a mess - ahem). Was thinking about matchmaking you with Mr ML Jr, but he's like that other guy, not religious enough for you.

Oh, poor Wen I can't imagine that kind of heat - I don't think it ever got that hot here - it got up to maybe 104 or 106 once and I remember it distinctly - it was the summer after I finished college and I was in a summer sublet with no AC, not even a fan I don't think. Phew! Stay cool and I hope the heat passes soon. Wish you'd get some rain out there to douse all those crazy fires too. I saw they called out the National Guard to help fight the fires there. Thanks fo the vote of confidence about work - I'm sure it'll be okay, I was just whining.

We loved Dr. Who with Tom Baker, but after that, we never watched it. Haven't really warmed up to the new ones and I just can't see why all the gals are ga-ga over David Tennant! Although he does have the googly-eyed expressions of Tom Baker a bit. My college friend's daughter and her pals are all crazy for David Tennant. (He was dating Sophia Myles, the gal from "Moonlight" but I think they broke up just before she went to the US for that show. She's such a beauty and such a good actress and so sensible and down to earth. Like her a lot! Miss 'Moonlight' a lot!" grrr

Oh, I was reading an interview in Starlog with Bernie Koppel (about the original Get Smart - he was also the doctor on Love Boat) and he said CBS did a similar thing years ago - they had Green Acres and Petticoat Junction and Beverly Hillbillies, which were all huge hits for them, and they cancelled them all because they 'didn't want to be known as a network that did that type of shows'! Same deal with 'Moonlight' - it was a hit, everybody loved it, but it didn't fit into their mysterious game plan! Stupid stupid CBS. I am still boycotting them.

It's true - there is just no TV, nothing to discuss. I was reading TV Guide and wondering why I even subscribe to it because there is just NOTHING ON TV! I stayed up late and watched the season premiere of 'Burn Notice' last night with Mr ML - but it isn't that good. It's like their (USA channel) new show "In Plain Sight" - it's almost good, but not quite. And both are on at 10, which is late for me to stay up til 11 when I have to get up early for work.

And yes, VB they have a show where they strap a lie detector on a person and ask them embarrassing questions guaranteed to ruin their marriage etc. Stupid. Also stupid game shows where people fall in the mud and stuff like that! Next, they will be throwing Christian to the lions, like the Romans - it's heading in that direction! Downhill, fall of civilization... sigh.

'Eureka' comes back July 29 on SciFi - a couple of my friends really like it. We don't love it as much, but the Sheriff guy is very likeable and it's something to watch. 'Kyle XY' doesn't return intil January, I think! Who can remember what these shows are about when the go away for half a year! They expect people to just keep sitting in front of the blank TV screen, waiting or them to come back.

It's like that 'Narnia' sequel - they thought the audience completely remembered every bit of the last film from a few years ago! I remember some English kids, a lion, an evil queen, and a guy with goat legs (James McAvoy! once a goat, now a star) - that was about it. It wasn't that riveting a movie.

Maggie you GO girl! You are doing such fun and interesting and exciting stuff. I hope your trip to NYC is fabulous and you hang out with a lot of great JBJ fans. He was in Boston this week and big photo on the front page of the Boston Herald I wonder if he and the band stayed at the new trendy hotel they just put up next to my hospital? I looked around but I didn't see them!

Oh well.. better get back to those teetering piles on my desk...

We celebrated this weekend - tried a new Italian restaurant for lunch, and for dessert went to a soft-serve icecream place. Both good (too much!) I have to have my twisty cone or it isn't summer (and some cotton candy and fried dough at a carnival would make the summer complete).

Oh, gosh, MLette and I watched 'Tattooist' last night - she bailed right away because it was too creepy for her. It really is an 'occult thriller' and I found it pretty disturbing/icky and it creeped me out. I was sort of upset afterwards, from watching it, although they do figure out what's going on and solve the problem/ lay the evil spirit to rest whatever before the end (and Jason's character doesn't get killed or anything), so at least that was a relief. Things get resolved.

It made 'sense' within the framework of the story and had a (relatively) happy ending - for a film of that type! His character's backstory/traumatic childhood event at the beginning (and flashed back later in the movie) was also very disturbing - I think that's when my daughter left! The Samoan stuff was cool, and that he was in Singapore and New Zealand (my journal production office/printer is in Singapore now!) And of course shirtless Jason (albeit tatooed) and hot love scene - always good! And I notice that in his love scenes, Jason is always on the bottom.. wonder that that means..

LOL, it's like Kyle's 'Haunted Prison' movie (one of the most awful cheezy horror movies ever made, imho - watched it all in fast forward with my hand over my eyes - giggle) - but it had a happy ending because he and two of the other kids didn't die/were going to get rescued by the end of it. Kyle not dead = happy ending! LOL!

Not to compare 'Tattooist' to that, as Jasons' film was a very well-made movie, nicely shot (lots of reflections of Jason's character Jake in mirrors, stuff like that). It wasn't a poorly filmed mystifying mess like Livien. A good film, well made and well acted but just a bit too creepy for me. I have a dread of spooky mirror stuff - they did the occult/suspense stuff very well.

Jason got a trip to New Zealand out of it (and was made an honorary chief) so definitely worth making that one! But it's not a fun movie!

Bunch of stuff I mail ordered showed up yesterday morning. Shoes and summer skirt were good, tops had to go back (too hot fabric, too tight, and WAY too low cut! Looked like a busty serving wench- ahem), and another thing I got also went back - packed them right up again and back to the post office, which is only open til noon or so on Saturday. Shoes are really nifty but more for fall/winter - hard to describe - brown leather and suede and some patches of tweed fabric on them.
I guess this is the 'week of shoes'!

MLette wouldn't go car shopping with me, even though the weather was perfect, although we looked at them online and there are plenty out there. She just has to pick a year, a color, a model and go buy one of them. She works today and I'm busy with Jumpcon next weekend (squee!) so the weekend after that is cutting it very close to the end of the month, when Mr ML Jr finishes working/starts being unemployed.

Oo Scottie, 'Entertainment Weekly' has a cover story about the 'Twilight' movie and the book phenomenon. I knew I was smitten with those stories, but I didn't realize they were a huge fan phenomenon and turned the housewife who wrote them into a multimillionaire - America's own version of J.K. Rowling! I'm hoping the movie will be almost as good as the books - takes some getting used to, to see the actors they chose for the roles vs the people you sort of imagined in your head. Actual human beings, even unnaturally good looking actor-type human beings, can't possibly be as beautiful as the vampire people in the book. And I don't think the girl playing Bella looks anything like my imagining of Bella in the book either. Cam Gigandet is playing James, the bad vampire guy - he was a bad guy on the O.C. and will be very good in that role. He also was just in that fighting movie. I've gotten used to Robert Pattinson playing Edward - he was Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter movie and he is suitably tall, pale, and unusual looking for the role and I think he'll do a good job of it. Movie doesn't come out til December, anyway. But the last book comes out next month - anxiously awaiting it. Although I guess the author, Stephenie Meyer, is writing a 5th book, from Edwards POV, but that's still in the works/in her heard. Sorry TMI about 'Twilight'! Somehow, as much as I love it, I can't see being fannish about a book. I've been re-reading them obsessively since April! They are that good.
