Hi Everyone!

BBW, I'm so glad you came out of lurkdom and posted! It's so good to see you!

Well, the fires are up to over 1,400 now! It's just getting worse! Thank goodness my family and I are not in danger, but I feel so sorry for all the peeps and their homes that are. It's so sad.

There has been a bit of a breeze that's kicked in over the last couple of days that has been clearing out the smoke, TG!!! So we are having some actual blue skies and some fresh air to breathe... I've missed it sooo much! TG for this break!

And less than 70 days now for your cruise! I'm getting excited for you too! I hope you and your sister have a wonderful time!

And thanks so much for the healing hand! You are so sweet!

MyrnaLynne, Thanks for the concerns about my back. And I am really afraid of taking a pain med that I could get addicted to. I mean the pain is unbearable, but I don't want to turn into a junkie either!

And I'm sorry to hear that the Evil Chapter is back. Hopefully you'll be done with it soon and it will be gone for good.

And that's great that Mr. ML enjoyed the cruise that you had taken... makes it so much easier if you want to take another.

Have you started to discuss what you wanted to do for your 30th anniversary yet? I know it's seems like a long time off, but if you're going to plan something big, it takes time to make and book all those plans, so planning a year in advance really isn't unreasonable.

And that's something about dreaming about that guy you knew before Mr. ML. Funny how the mind works... such a mystery.

And funny that you Googled him... I've been 'People Searching' peeps for days now... looking up old friends for MOTHER, and I. It's quite fun to see who they married and where they are living now and how many children they had and such.

Well, that's what I've been doing since I can't sleep all night.

btw, thank you so much again for the info!

Poddy, Love your airplane ani! So cute!

They are working on containing the fires in Napa... I think they have most of it contained now, but the damage is done I'm sorry to say. Just watch the prices on your favorite wines as they will most likely rise.

Well your trip to Hawaii was a Great Start to catching up on lost time I think. Keep up the good work, and I hope you have many, many more wonderful adventures with Poddad.

Vero, And thanks for your caring about my backpain. I too hope my Dr. can find a pain med that's not addicting but helps with the pain.

Sorry to hear about your rude cleaning lady. Not calling when she doesn't plan to show up is unexceptable! And she's done it like 3 or 4 times now?! I agree with MyrnaLynne, she really needs to be fired.

I hope you had a Great time with your friends tonight!

And it's been hot here too, but at least it's not in the triple digits anymore, but still in the 90's... still hot.

I hope Everyone is having a Great Week.

Hugs to All,
Wen

We looked at some more used cars last night - so exciting! Hyundai's this time. MLette's boyfriend and I are throughly enjoying this car-shopping business, while it's torture for MLette - she's so shy, plus she hates the thought of forking over all her carefully saved money! And she's so tall - the car she tried last night just didn't fit her right. We started out looking for a tiny, gas-saving, easy to park, reliable little car, but now we're thinking she needs something bigger, a 'family sedan' or even 'old man's car'! The new model they had was larger and fancier, but also $$$. So - back to the drawing board. Now I think a Camry might be the ticket (Wen's old car). The 2009s will be coming in soon, so the dealers will have to get rid of this year's models.

Not that it will make them haggle any less hard or try to trick us any less!

Woo, bosses went away for a few days - maybe I can break my head over the Evil Chapter in peace and finally get it done. Crossing my fingers!

The doctors must have some free days before the holiday because suddenly they are all deciding about the papers and reviews are arriving and suddenly there is a lot of work! When they get caught up on their work, it makes more work for me next.

Gee, I miss TV, there is just nothing to watch. Mr ML got impatient with Netflix and started renting things again.

True, something as big as a cruise needs to be planned way in advance. But I can only work on one big project at a time (first MLette needs a car, then Mr ML Jr needs a new job, then we'll see!). It's funny but I really liked that cruise but sort of feel like I don't really need to take another one. Been there, done that.

July is here! 2 and a half weeks til JumpCon ( and also - jury duty). Yay (and boo).

Hey all

Well me and my friends met and it was pretty funny and a lot of fun. We were 2 girls and 1 guy (yea I'm working well in small groups). The funny thing way that me and the other girl kept yapping our hearts out and the guy had to remind us to let him talk. Good thing he knows us or he would have been offended. We were together for about 3 hours and just talked a lot and laughed a lot. Bottom line we had a lot of fun!

Wen, 1,400?? That's just horrible! I keep hoping they'll get all of that fire under control soon!
Good thing about the breeze you're having right now… but isn't a breeze bad fopr the fires… oh well at least you can breath now.

Well as I said it took my mom ages to find her so she won't give her up anytime soon… I guess I'm just gonna have to keep my eyes open on that one. We don't have to fire her but I think that asking for some respect isn't something horrible to ask. Anyway I hope it won't happen again. The reason I'm upset about it is that if she doesn't come I'm the one who has to clean and if she won't let us know then I won't be able to start so I have to do that the next day. My mom doesn't seem too upset about it… of course not! She's not cleaning! As I've said… I'll have to keep my eye open on that one.

ML, well I'm happy you're enjoying the car searching. Well there are a lot of cars that seem small but have a lot of room in them my cosine has one… he's pretty tall (around 1.90 cm which is about 6.2'') and he as a car that seems pretty small but has a lot of room inside… I don't remember which one he has…

Hope you'll be able with that Evil Chapter really soon!

all

Happy 4th of July! The fireworks should be starting in about an hour. We just got back from the cottage - about 2-1/2 hrs drive each way, and we went through the pouring rain - not very promising weather - we packed bathing suits but didn't really plan to use them. Not too big a crowd showed up, 3 of us, about 5 other people, Mr ML's sisters, hubby, daughter, grandaughter -

Wow about the 44 people party!! That's a lot to entertain. So awesome there's a good view of the fireworks. I love to see them, but not too close!! From a window indoors I think is ideal. They built a new hotel near where the Boston Pops/near my work, and I thought it would be cool to stay there on July 4th, with a hotel room that had a view of the fireworks - I read in the paper that a 4th of July package there cost $1,500!! Now I like fireworks as much as the next person - but not enough to pay the equivalent of a fancy new refrigerator for it!

I got up and baked brownies. Was going to make them last night, but got caught up watching "Independence Day" - love that movie! Everybody was so young - 12 years ago! We recognized Devon Gummersall as one of the young kids - and now he's married to Majandra! So there's the Roswell connection (well that and Area 51 of course). And Bill Pullman, who was in Grudge with Jason, was president - there's the Jason connection. It was on til late and then it was too late to start baking anything, so I got up and did it this morning - they were fresher, too.

Usually there are a ton of desserts but not many people meant not many desserts - I brought brownies and Betty made her famous apple pie and they both got eaten up! And we stopped at the really cool country/general storenear the cottage to marvel at all the cool stuff, buy penny candy and ice cream - love that place. And then we just sat around and chatted all day. It was pretty nice and mellow. I was worried because I hurt my back and it's taking awhile to get better, but it was okay on the long car ride and I didn't exert myself too much out there.

Of course athletic Mr ML hopped in the canoe and canoed all around the lake - he's like Jason -a lot of energy. It's what keeps them skinny (and muscular). ahem.

Nice thing about this Friday holiday is now we have a free weekend, too!

Hi Everyone!

I hope Everyone had a nice 4th!

Sounds like you did MyrnaLynne. And I just love little country store too! So quaint and old fashioned... just love that!

Mmm, brownies! I just love brownies too! Wish I had some right now. Funny, MOTHER was craving brownies today too! LOL!

I'm glad your back didn't bother you with the long ride to and fro to the cottage. I didn't realize you had hurt your back. Sending healing vibes your way so you're feeling better soon.

Well, I'm glad you had a nice time today.

Poddy, Thanks for the fireworks! I didn't get to see them tonight. My city has them, but the trees are too tall around me for me to see them. I suppose I could have gotten in my car to a taller spot to see them, but I just didn't want to leave the house... too tired.

Anyway... Wow! 44 peeps! That's a lot of peeps! Hope the party went well. I hope it was pot-luck!

And I'm glad to hear that you are up at your Liz's. Was Emily there too? I hope she was able to go too.

And I hope you got to see the fireworks, and that the weather cooperated. (fingers crossed)

Jero! I voted!

Well, my Bro' and his family didn't end up coming down after all. They had prior plans, and that was fine with me (since I don't have a BBQ grill).

But we had a nice day... MOTHER was here and we bought fully cooked BBQ ribs so all we had to do was just heat them up, and they were out of this world! Plus we had potato, and macaroni salads, corn on the cobb, french bread, and watermelon for dessert. Everything was delicious!

We ended up not going with chicken because MOTHER said she ate on Fried Chicken all week and she was burned out on it. But the ribs were excellent! And we hadn't had ribs in ages so we Really enjoyed them!

We missed having No.1 son and DIL with us, but she went to her family reunion while my son had to work, and then after work, he and his friends went to some sporting event, and hung out together after that.

Just didn't seem the same without them.

The weather wasn't too bad, still kind of warm, (90*), and a bit muggy which is unusual. We usually get the dry heat which is easier to take than muggy. Well, thank goodness for A/C!

MOTHER's place had a pot luck yesterday, and the manager BBQ'd steak and chicken! MOTHER made a fresh fruit salad with melons, grapes, cherries, and added some fruit cocktail too. It looked and tasted delicious! Plus she brought a veg dip tray too. I just love those too. Too bad it was just for the residents or I would have loved to have gone too! LOL!

She enjoyed herself, and got to visit with her neighbors that she doesn't get to see often. MOTHER doesn't leave her apt often, as she has Lainie throw out her trash and get her mail for her, so she doesn't venture out much, unless she's going to my house, but doesn't walk her complex at all.

Nor does she go down to the common room, (where they have the pot lucks and have bingo night and just hang out during the day). I don't know why she's like that.

Anyway, she said she had a nice time at the pot luck, in which I'm glad. She really needs to socialize more often in her complex.

I hope Everyone has a Great Weekend!

Hugs to All,
Wen

Hi, jero

Took MLette to look at used Toyotas today - salesman came out smoking a big stinky cigar to help us - What a lot of nerve! Definitely wouldn't buy a car from somebody blowing stinky cigar smoke in our faces.

Went to the mall and they had THE cutest Chuck Taylors I'd ever seen - they were very jazzy and colorful, had unicorn fabric and sparkly pink stuff and green and white - can't describe them - but those shoes just do not fit my feet at all. They only come in whole sizes, they are made unisex for men/women and .. I don't know. They fit Jason but they just don't make my feet happy. Too narrow in the front, too wide in the back, too flat.

Nice cool day today. Supposed to be warmer tomorrow and will probably storm again. Sounds like you had a nice day Wen - funny I was just thinking of those Lloyd's (beef) bbq ribs at the supermarket - have been having a hankering for those. Last time I got them, I shared them with MLette's boyfriend, who is a rib guy/carnivore. I saved some of the brownies I brought to the cottage for us, but they're nearly gone. Think I'll make some cookies tonight for the rest of the weekend, while it's cool. Kids like the cookies a lot more than brownies.

It's too bad your MOther doesn't take more advantage of the activities where she lives. That's the whole point of living at one of those senior places, is all the stuff there is to do, and the people are usually friendly and like to socialize. Sounds like the food was fab. Oh, Mr ML figured out how to make chicken picatta and it's as good as the stuff at the California Pizza Kitchen! Now we don't have to eat out.

Hope Poddy's big holiady blow-out was great.

I watched the 4th of July thing on TV - we coudl HEAR the fireworks booming in Boston, but we absolutely can't see a think from where we live - it's so frustrating to hear them and not see them. Of course you can see them on TV, but there's nothing stupider than fireworks on TV (they could just be special effects, y'know?).
I thought Craig Ferguson was an odd choice to host the stuff, but I guess he just became a US citizen. The Pops has a baseball theme that was cool - I didn't see the whole thing - didn't see the girl who won the contest to sing. It sort of reminded me of Lawrence Welk with the Irish step dancer and the choral group in costumes - very old-timey entertainment!

I want to go see 'Wall-E' I hear it's fabulous, and also that movie 'Wanted' - which is icky and silly but Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy will be fun in a movie. Definitely nerdy guy fantasy - sort of like Hiro on Lost in his cubicle suddenly finding out he's a hero and has to save the world!

Hey Wen and ML

Thanks for the party well wishes.......it went really well..........no pot luck Wen I made a vat of pasta salad and a vat of spinach salad(I actually put the ingredients for the spinach salad in my last post because it is so good and everyone always loves it...btw the poppy seed dressing I use on it is Briannas(name of it....I've liked all those dressings I've tried) the KFC (in my last post I laughed about Liz getting that without me suggesting it when I had suggested that for you just had some too) and a great dessert a girlfriend of Liz's brought....oh and the watermellon..............anyway........it was a full house and another parent couple and a mom came too when it was told that Liz's parents would be there. Some of the kids I've seen on and off since Liz was in college and some were at the wedding....I really enjoyed a few of them alot....all the young ones are now old enough to be at ease with us and amused by us too like when they had Podad and I play a round of flip cup(it's a beer drinking game) SO we did get a front balcony seat for the fireworks and it really was so cool to see them from that view in the comfort of the appt.....very special...I took some pics so I'll post them when I get home. Interesting to watch all day as more and more boats anchored in the river...by the time the fireworks went off it was totally full .....now that would be a cool view! Yes Emily was there...that was part of why we are here...helping her finish moving in plus she leaves tomorrow for Boston and her 3 wks of training.... it's really been painful emotionally for me knowing we just had our last summer break with her....that now she is done with school and will have so little vacation time....to be honest I'm having a hard time.....just so sad.....I'm typing as Liz she and Walter are watching Harry Potter...they all have read the books and are into it....sorry HP fans but to me the writting is just too juvinile but it made Em read and she's not a reader so very glad of that. ...........I just I think I'm finally totally digesting that my kids live away from me and I don't see them enough....to make matters way way worse Liz was offered a job(I just found out a few days ago) back at Dukes endowment(in North Carolina)...she's thinking about it.....she says 25 % chance she'll take it but I was SO happy to have them both in the same place....I am crushed that I might have that taken away before it even happened.....sorry to be so down but I am devastated....I so hope she doesn't do it she had said she would never move far away agin but this is a big offer I have to get a grip but right now I'm tearing up alot on and off

onto something else.......what a dope ML for the car salesman to be doing that.....he must be pretty poor. Good luck with the continued hunt. Your 4th sounded nice........as does all your food. It would be great to see the Boston Pops or any other big city fireworks but it's so dounting to think of dealing with the masses of ppl etc!! We always went to our towns with the kids when they were young but that was doable....or walk down to the beach....oh that reminds me it was neat to also see the far off firworks from the apt. I like the corny fourth TV stuff.....Walter had a good playlist for the fireworks...we all chimed in for It's a Grand Old Flag which was fun..........HAve you guys ever seen Bostons?

Wen Your get together sounded nice but I know how you feel about son and DIL being missed. I love ribs!! That was a good idea of moms. YEs humid stinks...boy was I sweating last night How are the fires?I haven't seen the news for days. Hope Big Sir made it.

We went to Ikea again...exhausting.....We need to take Ems stuff to her appt...she wants me to stay there with her tonight...she's nervous of course...me I'm just kind of sick inside so I better get stuff together.......

to Podmom for having a terrible case of impending 'empty nest'. It's very hard when you are close to your kids and they are your friends as well as just your children and then they spread their wings and go off (not that I actually know about this yet, because mine are hanging around the house still...

Sorry the impending separation feels so painful. Exciting your girls have such great opportunities/careers ahead of them.

I went to the Boston Pops 4th in I think 1975 alone and it was great, and 1976 went back with Mr ML - the Bicentenniel. The crowds that year were so amazingly horrendous I never went back again! When I had an office at the hospital that overlooked the river (for a short while before they moved me), I sneaked the family up there one year and we watched the fireworks from the window - my favorite way to see them, in a comfortable seat, indoors - LOL - but actually seeing the 'real thing' in the sky (as opposed to seeing in on TV, which seems really fake to me). We watched them from a hilly park near Mr ML's uncle's house once, and one year we had keys to our temple and went up on the roof and watched them there! Also saw them in the sky once as we were driving into the city and I thought "Wow, what a distracting neon sign they have up there..." giggle. I guess I thought it was like the Boston 'Citgo' sign or something. Then it slowly dawned on me it was fireworks in the sky.

So I've seen them a few times and been to the actual concert/festivities by the river twice.

Mr ML was thinking he should build a tower on top of our house, so I could climb up there and see the fire works on 4th of July - so frustrating to hear them booming in the distance and not be able to see anything at all! LOL, but of course we have no tower.

Like parades, I am much more excited about fireworks and that sort of stuff than my family. My city has put on a big fireworks show the past few years - and two years in a ro somebody got stabbed at it! I think we tried to go see it once, and standing around on the street, looking at the sky just wasn't that fun. Guess I'm over fireworks.

CAPs and JOFs and OTOs!!

Sounds like most had a good 4th of July. All the menus sound so good I want something to eat! Fortunately, there’s no “good” food in my house so I’m safe! I’m always on a diet so I try not to keep good food around so I don’t have to rely on my self-control because that’s almost nonexistent!

My cat Bob just started kneading my chair. It seems like he’s jealous of the computer. Whenever I’m on it, he comes in and cries and gets his claws stuck in the fabric on my chair and then has to pull them out by force. He doesn’t seem to care about anything else I do, like reading or watching television. But let me start working on the computer and he’s here in a shot. Weird.

VB Thanks for worrying about my cruise and losing money if something happens. We buy trip insurance for a couple hundred dollars so that if something happens we will be reimbursed. It covers things like if a health problem arose or a hurricane came up and prevented us from going, we could get our money back. We were in Ireland in 2002 (or 03?) when the Aer Lingus pilots went on strike and we couldn’t get a plane out so we had to stay another 2 or 3 days and the trip insurance paid for part of our extra expenses. Although we weren’t that upset at having to stay longer! I’ve been to Europe twice and both times the airlines I’ve been flying have gone on strike; once in Rome and once in Ireland. Unfortunately the time it happened in Rome I was sick and could only go to a hotel and crawl into bed. I tell people they should travel with me because I’ll get them a couple more days out of their vacation when our airline goes on strike!

Mar So glad the wedding was a success. You are a good friend to take on all that responsibility!

LTL Glad your reunion went well. It’s nice to get together with family and renew the bonds. As I get older, I’m appreciating family more.

Podmom So sorry about your empty nest sadness but as ML said, it’s wonderful that your daughters have such great career opportunities! And it was nice that you had this fun 4th of July weekend with them and their friends.

MyrnaLynne I know what you mean about old boyfriends in dreams! For weeks now I’ve been dreaming about an old boyfriend too. We were kind of serious for a while, well, I was more serious than he was, but we were “together” for almost 10 years until I left Alaska. He died a few years ago. I’ve dreamt about him from time to time over the years, but not like this. I’ve been dreaming about him almost every night. I believe in psychic powers and stuff, and he and I had a strong psychic connection, so this has got me kind of spooked.

Maybe he’s jealous about my crush on Jason!!! That’ll give him back some of his own! I feel so much better now!

Wen Sounds like your 4th was nice, even if your son and dil weren’t able to be with you. And it sounds like your Mother was on pretty good behavior! Hope you’re legs are doing better.

Jero I continue to vote!

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the long weekend!

podmommy, hope you'll have a wonderful time at Liz's… with the 44 people coming! Wow that's a lot! But I guess it's a good reason to get to gether.
I'm so happy to hear you had such a lovely time at the party.

I know you'll miss all of those vacations with Em but you should think of it as a break because she will be able to take vacations later on. It might not be the same but I guess when you (or your kids) grow up it will never be the same. It's hard to deal with that but I'm sure you'll do just fine!

ML, well the thing with having 44 people around is that they can actually entertain themselves. You can put some music and that's that. But theye sure is a lot to clean after they leave.

Happy to hear you had a good time! Hope that back ace will be better soon.

Sorry you couldn't buy the chuck Tylor! I'm thinking of buying a pair… I just don't know if I should right now. Maybe…

Jero! How you doing? Hope all is well with you!

Wen, too bad your son and DIL couldn't be with you… but on the other hand your bro couldn't come either… some good within the bad.

Too bad your mom didn't go to those activities they organized at her building… but I can also understand why she wanted to be with her family.

Happy to hear you had a great yummy time on July 4th.

BBW, I know what you mean about always being on a diet. But I have to admit that I don't always follow those.

That insurance is a great idea. That's good that you took it! I hope everything will work out ok and that you'll have a wonderful trip!

That's it for now.... all

I'm back in town! Had a wonderful vacation, got home last Thursday and did one helluva mountain of laundry, it took me two full days to complete. Cleaned the house, worked in the garden and watched a couple of Netflix movies. Whew! Didn't do anything for the 4th, we're not fireworks people and we have to stay home to keep Hazel from climbing the walls when she hears the bombs go off! We began to hear fireworks on Friday, then Saturday and some even went off last night. I think we get the picture!

Glad everyone had fun, I'll catch up later on, just had to say hey and let you all know I'm home safe!

to Podmom who's sad!

Glad to see everybody!

It's HOT here - supposed to be 90ish today and humid..

Makes you eager to get into the (air-conditioned) office in the morning. But... the Evil Chapter is still with us. Boss tried to do it over the phone this morning and that didn't work, so he's coming in again... oh please, just let this thing END soon! It's just killing me and it's the Job That Will Not End - he just can't pull it together.

Hope he's not in a wheelchair because I'm not pushing him and hurting my back again, it just finally got better again.

Last night we went to the movies to cool off and saw 'Get Smart'. I used to like the TV show, it was stupid/funny and the movie was pretty good. (Not the funniest movie in the world, as bossy sister-in-law claimed, of course. Then again, she adored 'Caddyshack' one of the all-time worst movies ever.) But we hadn't gone to the movies at night in a long time, or paid full price - sticker shock!

Weird about the boyfriend dreams BBW - you have to think it's some sort of psychic message from beyond, or at least message from your subconscious about something or other. Guy I dreamt about I just knew for a month or two after college - he was just a friend, so it was so weird he showed up again when I haven't thought of him in 30 years!

The fake Chuck Taylor's (ones that look like them) tend to fit me better than the real things, maybe because those are made for a woman's feet instead of unisex.
I just ordered some shoes from a catalog - probably will end up sending them back because they won't fit (getting some clothes too).

Oh wow, Kyle had to cancel his appearance at the conventin in Pittsburgh that's the week after Jumpcon in Boston (another acting role - he's been very busy)! Keeping fingers crossed he shows and Dylan shows and it isn't a total disaster. The people running it are new, it's a new convention, and it's obvious that their learning curve is steep. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they go broke and fold up their tents - I just hope they stay in business long enough for me to see young Kyle again! sigh. It's coming up soon (July 19).

It's true VB, Mr ML's family is very easy to entertain because they just talk to one another and enjoy being together - just give them some food and a cup of tea for his sisters, and they'll have a good time.

Hi Everyone!

Welcome Back Scottie! I hope you had a good time camping! Two weeks is a long time tho'. Yes, I can imagine the laundry that you can acumulate in two weeks! No wonder you were washing for days! Whew!

So glad you are back safe and sound!

MyrnaLynne, it's suppose to get HOT here too! They are predicting 111* today! UGH! Looks like I'm not budging out of the house today, that's for sure... and I need stuff at the market too! Oh well, guess I can live without those things.

When I was a young teen, I lived in Chuck Taylor's and I just loved them! (Sorry the don't fit you ), but they fit me fine, altho' they were kind of flat, but I guess my feet adjusted to that because I was fine in them.

Sorry you are still dealing with the Evil Chapter and now the Boss today. Hopefully it will be done soon. (finger's crossed)

Poddy, for feeling sad. I think you need a Group Hug from all of us...

BBW, Thanks for asking about my legs. I'm still paddling away, but as soon as I stop for a day, the swelling comes right back! It's so annoying! Grrrr! I think I'm going to be paddling for ever! UGH!

So glad to see you posting tho'! Miss you when you don't!

Vero, Maggie, Mezzi, and All the JOF's and JIT's!

Hope Everyone is having a Great Week!

Hugs to All,
Wen
