PODMOM.....what an unhappy birthday you celebrated. How is Liz and he cough, throat?
And I'm sorry to hear about your brother. Glad you did get your own cake. I'm sure that whole ordeal was not what you would have wanted for your birthday.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY PODMOM!

Oh PodMom what a difficult birthday! Even in a time when birthday celebrations are very difficult to begin with. Losing your power for so long (and maybe all that meat you'd stocked up on? oy) and your brother now with bladder cancer (that's a difficult one!) Bladder and prostate are neighbors so - who knows if it's related? Anything that involves treatment via you-know-where is VERY difficult for men, too. I pray Liz is okay too, and it's some summer cold (and NOT COVID).

I'm glad you had some cake! Birthdays should be celebrated! We're looking forward to MLette's birthday in a few weeks - Haven't made any plans about it yet, just got her some cards, although I've been shopping for it since about February, because originally we were going to be away on our cruise on her birthday, and I wanted to give her something before we left - but then we didn't go) - It probably will involve the usual - cake.. and ice cream.. and presents. Although she's not a huge fan of cake/frosting, so maybe an ice cream cake? We'll see what she wants to do, and what we can find for her.

Meanwhile Mr ML's eye has gone bad (the one the eye specialist was watching, for the 'macular pucker') and he saw the specialist again today and is going to talk to a different guy later this month, about treatments/surgery for it! He is an avid reader and it would be good if he has two working eyes to read with (and drive). Scary

And my DIL is back in the hospital again - had some bloodwork recently, some indicator was way off the charts and the doctor told her to go to the hospital! She takes such terrible care of her diabetes and eats so strangely, her endocrinologist just 'fired' her as a patient (because she doesn't do anything he says, so why waste his time on her). I'm surprised, with the hospitals overwhelmed down there with coronavirus, a hospital even had room to take her. Hope she doesn't catch anything while she's there (worry).

Thanks girls it wasn't a bad birthday all things considered. I am SO fortunate to have a house to escape to and which was kind of fun to watch the storm roll in. It was way better then it could have been on the coast. Went more inland....which is why the PA house lost power. Still no power there so I am really glad to be in a house with air conditioning My brother had a real tornado go very near his house. My upstairs neighbor got a video of it from his porch. My brothers neighborhood is directly across the marsh/bay from our OC house. He only had limbs down and tree stuff in his pool and he lost power for hours but fortunately came on by dinner time. What a difference a day makes ...sunny and hot here today.

Goodness daughter inlaw is such a problem child I hope she gets in and maybe somehow takes the Drs advice and finally matures enough to take care of herself ML

My track garden got hammered what with it being crazy hot and me not around to water for a few days and then the insane wind.... glad I got that video while it was looking goond I am working on it and will have to plant some new flowers .

I hope both your gardens are doing on!

ML.....that's scary news about your hubby's eye. If I couldn't hop in the car and drive I'd be lost. Here's hoping for good news with the doctor's visit.
Also sorry your son has to deal with the dil's health's situation. Your son must be a special person to deal with her.

Hope everyone is doing well. I've already been out for my walk, and will start a little garden work when I finish here.

Nope, Mr ML has a 'macular pucker' which I guess is just a wrinkle in the back of his eye someplace. Nothing with his retina. They seem to think they can fix it, although we're both afraid to find out how they do that! And of course they give 'no guarantees.' He goes to talk to the other doctor in about 3 weeks.

Well, my DIL came home from the hospital and decided my son should fly up and visit us for awhile! So he might be coming up for his sister's birthday, but he has to get a COVID test (and plane tickets) first. Surprising turn of events. Of course, then she thought it was a bad idea, but we hope he'll come visit (and she won't put herself back in the hospital while he's away). The poor guy could use a break. She runs him ragged. He's working remotely, so he can bring his computer and work remotely while he's here, during the day. Will give him something to do.

Meanwhile, Mlette's boyfriend's Dad put an offer on every house they looked at this weekend - he is getting panicky!! I wonder what happens if everybody accepts is offer? The houses were all decent, although one place only had one bathroom (dealbreaker for her) and another had no AC, but I guess the Dad can renovate?

Wow about the tornado, and it's true, you are lucky Podmom to have another house to escape to (with AC - and ocean). We were very lucky with that storm. Just leaves down and a few twigs on our street, although other people had trees on roofs and on cars in other parts of our state; Connecticut really got socked, I think.

Sorry about the track garden - Every time I see Queen Anne's lace now by the road, I think of you, Podmom. I water dutifully every day, sometimes twice (from my rain barrel), and my cucumbers and flowers and grapes are coming along nicely. OH, and my rose bush, which was at death's door, suddenly grew leaves again and now had two flower buds! I guess it heard me talking about digging it up and tossing it.

Oh guess what - I think I might be ALLERGIC to CUCUMBERS! I've been having a weird tingling sensation in my tongue, read up on it, considered various deficiencies, thyroid, etc. But then I ate more cucumber and - yep, tingly tongue. Turns out cucumbers (and most melons, and peppers and a few other things) have a similar cross-reaction like ragweed for people with allergies. Huh. Allergic to cukes! I could cry! Called 'oral allergy syndrome.'

I gave two of them away to a neighbor, but there are two more ready to pick and a whole bunch more baby cukes coming along. I guess I never noticed before, because I never ate cucumbers that often (or a while one). I already take Claritin for my allergies, which is probably why it's just a little tingle. IDK.

ML.....you can't win, you have wonderful luck growing cucumbers, and it turns out you are allergic to them. That's not fair! Let us know how Mr ML's eye situation turns out..
Also interesting on the house for MLette and BF.

PODMOM.....you are luck to have such a nice place to escape to, even though your track garden is suffering. If it's not the rabbits it's the weather.

Hubby fell Saturday in the bathroom. Had to call the fire dept ......lift assistance and the came right away. The problem they hurt his leg (by accident) in a very narrow space. Now we're waiting for a telemedical call from the doctor to asses the situation.
Right now he in stuck in bed and can't walk.

Oh keepsmiling I hope your husband's leg will be okay and I'm so sorry he fell! And of course bathrooms have the hardest surfaces. My Dad fell in the bathroom at his assisted living, walking in there in slippery socks (he was okay). Scary. The firemen are so nice about that, I've heard. My friend in FL had a wheelchair friend (polio) and she lived alone and fell out of her wheelchair and had to call for help, and she said the guys were always very nice to her/kind.

Well of course now my DIL has changed her mind and doesn't want my son to come visit - even though it was HER idea! He said maybe he'll come up for his birthday, over Labor Day (but I doubt she'll let him travel then either). He was also talking about DRIVING up here, and bringing his (giant) dog with him. We're okay with the dog, but he'll have to stop for gas and food and maybe stay in a motel with all those coronavirus germs along the way - how does he think driving ~3 days each way is safer than 3-4 hours in an airplane (with a mask on)? Well, he'll come visit or he won't, it's out of our hands

In the good news department, the boyfriend's family was getting desperate and put in offers on several houses, two were accepted, and they picked the one my daughter liked the best! The (homeless) parents are in a hurry to move in, the seller is in a hurry to sell, so they moved up the closing date and are passing papers on Monday! Then the parents can move in there, get out of their daughter's (and son-in-law's) hair, and the Dad can start renovating bathrooms and kitchens to his (high energy) heart's content! Maybe he'll add a garage, if he can get permission, who knows? Mlette is very excited and happy (and glad they can stop house hunting every free moment!) Any of those houses would have been nice, but she liked this raised ranch with a circular driveway in front the best. And 2.5 bathrooms - I am envious! (We have one bathroom!!)

PODMOM.......have fun at OC. Hope your IT person is able to fix you up.

ML.......Here's hoping your son will make it for his birthday. Doesn't the DIL have family close by if she needs them?

Home health came out with their cute little portable x-ray machine, no fracture for hubby.
Now they will start rehab today.

Now my son says maybe he'll come in October, because her parents live nearby - during the fall/winter (although they also go to FL in the winter - must be nice!) - but spend the summer at their lake house in NJ So she would have somebody there to help with the dog (or rush her to the hospital the next time). Her brother moved down there a couple of years ago (and started running the Dad's family business), but they aren't speaking, as far as I know. Half the time, she's fighting with her parents too. She fights with everybody, such a disagreeable unhappy person. My poor son is a SAINT to put up with her!

Yay keepsmiling that nothing is broken - Aren't the miniature medical things amazing these days? I remember how big EKG machines used to be and now they're a little box. Everything is a little box! I hope your hubby gets stronger and feels better soon.

PodMom glad you could spend some time with Liz while she packed for her travels. Sorry your computer is on the fritz - I miss my inhouse IT guy (who is in Texas now). So handy! My email was doing something weird - the text would disappear after I sent it, just saving the title - but now it's fixed itself again, and the emails are there again! (Handy if you want to copy some of one email to somebody else)

The heat wave is over for awhile - should have some nice cool weather for several days. YAY! LOL, I ordered some shorts, they are backordered, I'll probably get them when the snow flies! Like the sweater I ordered last winter that arrived - July 27! The LAST thing you want to try on in July is a sweater! Oh well, at least it showed up as promised! I ordered some new sandals too - one pair was very good , the other pair is on the way back. Oh well, you have to listen to the opinion of your feet!

We had such a nice Famiy Zoom tonight - my daughter and BF came, and my son (and his dog) came (dog literally, who knows where his wife was hiding?) My husband's siblings told lots of old family stories, etc. Of course Mr ML spilled the beans about the new house, and his family started asking about mortgage rates and packing etc - They didn't want to go into the whole complicated story of the house from his father on Zoom. He always blurts things out!

I picked a big cuke this morning and my tenant came by, so I gave him another cucumber (after asking how the liked the last one, did he want another one - he's a vegetarian). Then I picked a curvy one and ate half of it with lunch - living dangerously! I like them so much.

MLette is coming over tomorrow and bringing John (and his Magic: The Gathering cards) so he and Mr ML can 'play'. Boys!

Basketball playoffs start Monday - Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers.

Your son is a Saint ML

So glad you had a nice family zoom night you even got to see sons dog

SO nice Mr ML has John to play stuff with!

uh oh I'll have to be rooting for the 76ers only for Tommy though I never watch Bball.

Liz and family having a wonderful time in Maine. PLaying with star fish yesterday yup they have them in Maine. I'm in OC....raining the past few days. Podads Bday was yesterday. Just hung out.

Emily and family drove to the Outer Banks yesterday...long,rainy drive where Margot threw up once they aren't going to have great weather....I hope they get some sun. LOts of little kids in the house can get old. Robbie's family always gets a house there for a week in the summer.

My friend in St Louis reserved a vacation place in the Outer Banks for next May! Right near the beach. They were so worried the house was going to blow away in the last few tropical storms...

Yes Podmom even up in Maine we get starfish and various sea creatures. The water is COLD there, though. Maybe not so cold after all the 90-degree weather we've had but.. cold water. Kids don't mind it, though.

Wow the weather is so gloomy I can't believe it - tropical storm way off the coast sending us clouds and (yay!) chilly weather and it looks like it is going to rain any minute but.. nope. Doesn't rain. We really need rain. It was so dark I turned on the lights in the house and it was NOONTIME!

Well, it's good my son didn't buy plane tickets to come up here, because his wife is sick again and back in the hospital. She had diabetes and she doesn't eat right (she eats one GIGANTIC meal a day, which makes her sick.. sigh). Anyway, she's in the hospital (again). I'm sorry for both of them.

Yes I was thinking you'd have to root for Philadelphia, PodMom, like with the Eagles vs Patriots (although with Tom Brady gone, who cares about the Patriots anymore?). It's so sad, seeing the baseball teams hit a home run into the stands on the news - and the stands are empty. Nobody trying to grab the souvenir ball. Not that we watch baseball! One of the hockey players on the news commented that it wasn't like playing a real game without the (bloodthirsty) fans rooting for them - and right after that, he took off the rest of the playoff season.

Basketball seems to be most successful, dealing with COVID and being able to play again, but their commissioner was on top of it as soon as they found out about it.

Happy birthday to PodDad! (He's on my calendar :>). Just wrapped Mlette's birthday stuff today. Plans for celebrating are still pretty vague... Doesn't help that she's such a CLAM about what she wants!

Today my daughter, granddaughter and "great" drove over for the day. We celebrated Piper's 6th birthday (which is actually the 21st). It's such fun for me to have four generations together. I fixed a big lunch, then there was cake and ice cream and for Piper presents. We're always a little tired when that 6 year old burst of energy leaves.
Tomorrow hubby's PT comes to work on him.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.
