I learnt the Rose on the piano when I was younger and loved it and always sang it when I was playing. Us younguns get it's about beauty and a little pain but the tune is so lovely and in just the right pitch to be able to really sing it. Ah the memories.

I do hope you have a lovely time with your family Poddy. Maybe you can send some of that chocolate cake and the blueberry muffins over for me. .

ML Your Rob puzzles is pulling a Mona Lisa on you if his eyes follow you all the time

Wen coz your mum is so tough.

Speaking of mums....The Step got the results back and it's looking good. Dr said that as far as he could tell he didn't think it had spread much. They've recommended 4 bouts of radio therapy but not the lazer kind. They'll inject it into her under anethetic. That means just 4 visits rather than 6 weeks every day. So that's good. Dad seems happy and relieved.

mezz wonderful news about the Step and her prognosis! I hope she's fine (and driving you crazy) again soon! LOL!

OH, Bossy Betty's husband was rushed to the hospital for a quadruple heart bypass last night! LOL, and we always thought he didn't have a heart.... (he loves to tease little children mercilessly). sigh. I think he's going to be okay, is in cardiac ICU recovering. Don't know if he can have visitors (or if we want to go see him - he's kind of a strange guy).

Well, the 'hospital idol' singing went pretty well yesterday afternon - way better than last year. But the judges were different and it was kind of an obscure jazz song, and they were like "We don't know that song. We don't understand that song" (huh?) and they asked me to sing something ELSE that they knew, just a few bars. I know a zillion songs, but to come up with one good one, on the spot, with no preparation! Yikes! I did a little of 'Wash that man right outta my hair' but it wasn't very good and I left kicking myself I didn't do something else better. Oh well - it's a stupid thing and I dont' know why I subjected myself to do it again (as last year was totally humiliating and depressing), as I know my voice is shot and I can't sing anymore like I used to (which was really really well). :<

Had to rush back and do a big bunch of work before end of day too - Mrs Boss actually had her (temp) secretary DELIVER stuff to me to correct - that never happens. So I did it all before leaving and swung by and dropped it off, as it seemed like it must be rush. They are all in a rush and scurrying around to get stuff in order for some government regulations/inspection or something. All I know is that it's making her and me both crazy.

I just discovered that some of the black puzzle pieces are actually dark dark purple. MLette and Mr ML were hard at work on it again last night. They both are just so patient and relentless with things. I get discouraged and have to walk away from it. Plus I need my strongest glasses, a bright lamp, and a magnifying glass to even try to figure out what goes where! Stupid stupid puzzle.

Our weather went from cold and rainy to warm and muggy yesterday too - temps probably changed 20 degrees. Finally a bit like summer today (but I hate summer). LOL!

Mezz I wish I could send you some! ahhhhh little Mezzy playing the Rose and singing the words are comical when an 8 yr old sings tso seriously it is a lovely tune.

ML Acck....the work sounds harsh these days hope it is over soon. I'm with you......I am not too into puzzles...not disciplined enough....when we used to ski in sis and broinlaws ski condo in Main when the kids were young Paul(bro) would bring a puzzle and we would work on in at night after dinner...that was fun and the kids were into it at that age...that's the last time I've done one...I'm thinking of getting one when Viv is with me the next time(and kind of making her do it....cause not her thing either) just for her brain. We played clue with the little kids and she had trouble following the directons You should be so proud of yourself for the singing compition very brave and shows you are still intrested in living! I know about the voice going I love to sing(would never do it like you...never that good....just while I would play guitar for myself or friends) everything is wearing out Next year we all get to discuss your song choices and vote

Wen Iwant to send you some too Poor you and mom....hope the knees are doing better...and of course part of her is happy cause she loves to complaine I agree you should be annoyed at insensitive pushy sis inlaw....just meant enjoy anyway did you go yet?

oops...Em just got up.....she and I are are going kayaking(even though I have hair and makeup done and I will sweat to death worth it though

I figured the puzzle is a good workout for the brain, if nothing else (well, fun joint activity, plus it's Edward Cullen - )

Sounds like things are jumping at the beach house! Too funny, my brother is named Paul too - small world.

Your recipe sounds very rich and tasty!

We're going to go see the movie 'Up' - seems a shame on such a nice day outside but 'the plan is the plan'!

Mr ML found a cruise from Boston to Bermuda and back - it's a different cruise line and I'm leery of switching, but I suppose what's the difference - boat, water too much food, nice fun stuff, and tropical island to tour. I'd like to go back and take the tours I didn't take because Bossy Betty talked me out of signing up for them! (Or because SHE didn't enjoy some of those things). ahem. Don't get me started... LOL! Won't say anything about her ability to induce stress and her hubby's bad heart - that wouldn't be nice.

Was thinking of sending hima get well card saying "So - you DO have a heart after all - we always wondered." Guess that would be mean too. Mr ML called to see if we can visit, but he's in the ICU with a tube in his throat so that would be a no.

Also found out a nephew just had a son -didn't even know he was married. Close family (not). Son of Mr ML's oldest brother, who is in Colorado so not like we're in touch much. He didn't mention when his daughter was having a baby either (but then, she wasn't married but still, baby is a baby). Oh well!

I once bought such a mean birthday card for my mother that I never sent it - glad Ididn't. I thought it was funny at the time though... I am bad, bad...

* * *
sunday night -

We went to see 'Up' Saturday - it was really good, but bring kleenex - MLette and I were crying at the beginning part. And then Mr ML Jr and I went to see 'They Might Be Giants' - we had awesome seats, like 5 rows from the front, orchestra center - nice seats for a PLAY, but for a rock concert - omg, they were SO LOUD! I had my fingers in my ears the whole night (except when I was clapping) and put on my sunglasses because the strobe lights/flashing lights were so bright too. I am way too old for rock n roll! They had the bass turned up so loud, it was vibrating the floor and the seats and whomping against my chest - I thought my heart might stop from it. But I managed to survive the experience.

Plus all the BIG FANS were sittingh around us and this girl next to Mr ML Jr was shrieking in a very high decibel way, how much she liked their music. Screaming! We liked it, but were very very glad when it got over and we could go home and it was quiet again. It was too loud for my son too. They played the whole "Flood" album (from 1990); I don't know why, but it was cool. They did their song "Istanbul is Constaninople".

Two things on one day was wayy too much for me, plus being out late and being blasted with noise, er, music. Plus the opening act guy Jeddidiah somebody was really terrible. His music was bizarre and he sang in a high falsetto voice (only thing good about it was it made me think of RobP singing) and his songs were like "I killed your cat" and stuff. Bizarre/bad. He had a percussionist with him who was very cool, stood there and played a drum, cymbal, shaker things, whatever. Guy played guitar well, but, well, his songs stank.
LOL, plus they didn't even introduce him, so half his set, I thought he was "They Might Be Giants" and I was surprised they had gotten so old and balding and there was only one of them.

TMBG is only 2 guys, a chubby dark haired manwith glasses and a skinny blond guy who looks like a very old kid. Genius musicians/songwriters. They had a bass player, drummer, guitar player and really great trumpet player too. I like their stuff, but it was WAY TOO LOUD! A bunch of obviously big fans in front of us pulled out earplugs and stuffed them in their ears before the music started. Smart.

Check out the Last Intl Playboy threads and all the wonderful photos of Jason and the lucky gals who got to meet him. SIGH

Ugh, I am correcting the same stuff I correctly on Friday - I've lost count how many times she's tinkered with the wording on these 4-5 reports, but at least 4-5 times now! Driving me crazy!

Hi Everyone!

Sorry to be MIA, but been with MOTHER because of her bum knee issues, of which she still won't walk on it unless it's absolutely necessary. (sigh) [Stubborn Old Woman!!!] Grrrr!!!

MyrnaLynne, my No.2 son has been a fan of 'They Might Be Giants' for years, and has been to tons of their concerts over the years too! Went as far as Utah to see them once... (happened that his friend was dating a girl from Utah and they killed two birds with one stone, saw the girlfriend and saw TMBG's as well!) LOL!

Sorry the Opening Act was lousy tho'. Usually they're pretty good, but I guess every now and then they get a Stinkero!

Sorry to hear about Bossy Betty's heartless husband having the heart surgery. Hope he's Ok. (But now you all have proof that he actually does have a heart, but it's probably very small!)

That cruise that Mr. ML found from Boston to Bermuda sounds Great!!! Are you going to go?! I so hope you do! You need a nice vacation!

Sorry to hear that Mrs. Boss is STILL driving you CrAzY! (sigh) Poor You!!!

I'm glad that 'Hospital Idol' went well, but just because the 'Stupid Judges' didn't know the song that you sang, should NOT have made you sing another one! IDIOTS if you ask me. (shakes head)

I'm glad you had fun tho' even tho' you were dealing with idiots.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Movie 'UP' too! (I cry at movies too, and my family just keeps handing me tissues when they see the sad parts coming even before I start to cry! Brats! LOL!)

Oh, and speaking of the name 'Paul'... that's Satan Jr's middle name! We're always all connected somehow... engineers, names, etc. LOL!

But especially You and Poddy! You two are twins separated at Birth!!! LOL!

Poddy, Safe Travels!

Are you leaving Big Viv there with Sis, or is Sis coming back with you? I hope Sis decided Not to come back with you, and is keeping the Vivster with her now so you can start your Much Needed Vacation!

How was your shopping trip?! Great I hope!!! Hope Liz found lots of cute maternities, and I hope you found some really cute baby girl things.

I LOVE baby-shopping!!! I just Love looking at All the Baby Things, which drives my family CrAzY! LOL!

***

Well, we all went to Jenna's Apt Warming Party on Saturday, and it was very nice. The kid has a really nice apt! Really cute! She has lovely furniture, new & nearly new, but her nearly new looks brand new! She said she and her roomate did lots of shopping around and found really good bargains for good quality furniture and it shows. The kids have really good taste!

SIL served Chicken Enchilladas, Refried Beans topped with Cheese, and Spanish Rice. She also had a tossed green salad and fruit salad as well.

Then for dessert, she made individual strawberry shortcakes, which was very yummy!

The Enchillada's were rather bland... thank goodness they had salsa! LOL!

We had a good time and Jenna was so proud showing off her new apt. It's pretty big too! Nice apt, in a nice area. She's near Everything!

MOTHER said she'd love to live in that area... close to Everything! So I asked Jenna if she'd like another roomate! Everyone laughed! LOL!

I got Jenna this Huge Red and Yellow Stripped Coffee Cup planter and planted a pretty green leafy plant in it, and also gave her a card with money in it. I just could not give her a card with money. I just HAD to give her something else! So I thought a nice plant would be nice and that Huge Coffee Cup was soooo cute that I couldn't resist and Had to buy it! And Lainie forgot to take a picture of it!

Anyway, Jenna absolutely LOVED it!!! She thought it was the neatest thing she had ever seen! I was worried that she wouldn't like it, but I was so glad that she loved it!

Got to start supper...

Biggest Hugs to All,
Wen

I haven't been to a proper rock concert in ages but I hate that feeling of the music thumping through your chest. I always take earplugs with me - both to movies and concerts. I hate things being loud. Also while at uni I went to a concert and didn't put in ear plugs and damaged my right ear. I lost some hearing in it and had a headache for an entire month. Not good at all. Now that's the ear that always feels pain in wind and stuff.

Jedidiah is a very well known band. A little on the grunge/punk side if I remember correctly. Very much a 16-22 year old rebel sound though I think. I've heard them a couple of times and though 'nyeh'

It's dull and cold today. Yesterday was sunny. I was looking forward to sitting in the sun again. Oh well.

Need to do more packing. Did another 2 boxes yesterday. All the easy stuff is done though so now I have to think and make decision and I never do that kind of stuff well

Oh Mezzi! My heart goes out to you with all that packing that you have to do by yourself! Seems to me that your family should be helping... but that's just my humble opinion since THEY used to live there too. It sort of seems unfair to let you do it all alone, don't you think? Sorry if I'm stepping out of line, but I believe family should help family, that's all.

Speaking of family... I guess Lainie did take a picture of the huge Coffee Cup Planter that I gave my niece Jenna for her Apartment Warming after all!

Here's a picture of it...

I thought it was cute, and I'm so glad Jenna loved it too!

Biggest Hugs to All,
Wen

Mezz I don't think this is the same Jedidiah. His name was Jedidiah Parish, something like that, and it was just one man with a guitar and a drummer.
He was way too old to be grunge or punk (imho).

Oh gosh, packing is the hardest thing in the world (at least to me!) Unpacking is a little easier. The deciding is difficult too. HUGS because you have to pack and move.

I do medical typing with headphones and I really need to keep my hearing, so I don't want to have loud noises either. And I've never liked loud music. I don't know why they always have to crank it up to 11. LOL, I guess the only concert I should go to is chamber music, stuff like that.

Wen Mr ML realized we can't take a cruise until next year, because of his tooth! He has to take it out when he eats, and he'd be too embarrassed doing that in front of strangers, and you eat a lot on cruises, and he decided to wait until next year to get the tooth replaced, so he'll have next year's dental insurance to help pay for it (used up this years amount on another crown - the man's teeth are falling apart). So - looks like no cruise after all. :< And by next year, hopefully, the economy will have rallied and they will have raised the prices again. Good deals to be had now.

glad the apartment-warming went well (I would have wanted something to eat beside enchiladas and beans!) and the coffee cup planter is adorable and perfect for a kitchen too. I'm glad she loved it. She sounds like a very sensible girl (and good furniture shopper too).

I was reading about TMBG and found out they didn't write Istanbul (Constantinople), it was an old song done by somebody else. LOL, and Ithought that was their cleverest song. They opened with singing the song of the names of all the states. I love the stuff they did for Animaniacs and their 'kid' stuff. Although I frequently sing "I am 10,000 years old" because I feel that way a lot of the time, and it's a nice song.

True, baby clothes are the cutest things in the world to shop for! That's what we were saying about the nephew who never mentioned his new baby to anybody - if he had, maybe he would have gotten some baby gifts (ahem). His loss!

Mr ML and I were kind of fighting over the puzzle last night - well, I had the pieces sorted out by color and he grabbed them all, to arrange them by shape. And I put some piece in, and he and Mlette took them back out again I am so done with this stupid puzzle. They probably have 100 pieces left, maybe 50 at this point. But some holes nothing fits in at all, so that means either one of the pieces is gone, or the area around it is made up of wrong pieces. Evil, evil puzzle....

I tooks some pix of it, so I'll ask MLette to get it out of her camera so I can post one. If we had a fireplace, I'd toss the darn thing in there, once it is finished.

I can sympathize with Mother and her knees. It's been very cold and damp here and my hip is really kicking up - have the cane back out again, after not needing it, because my knee was so good. I was so exhausted yesterday I just went home and put my feet up most of the night (and watched endless 'house hunting'). Guess if we can't get a new place, I can enjoy watching other people do that! Cute Toronto couple - the boys in Toronto are very cute.

And it was like 48F this morning - I wore a flannel shirt and a raincoat today! That's the kind of summer we're having so far. I think all the seasons are shifting, and it'll probably warm up late and stay hot later into the fall. As I remember last year, October was quite warm. Oh well, my dad says it's 90-100 and humid where he is in Florida - it'll take the chill over that any day!

Hi

Kids are at work podad still asleep......boy he can sleep anywhere/anytime and alot it's amazing(and annoying at times )

Mezz continued on the moving in phase.....well you'll have to have a hot cuppa and a cozy read instead of sunning speaking of reading I found a book here this morning that I just spent a couple of hours reading......."The Reason For God.....Belief in an Age of Skepticism" I haven't read anything as intelectually compelling besides CS Lewis(his religious appologetic writings) or Phillip Yancy although he is a far second to CS...... moved to tears of greatfulness this morning because it was so timely. The author is the pastor of a Manhattan church(Redeemer Prespeterian Church) I've read about.....membership 5,000 with like 12 churches started from it. This man appeals to the divergent city types(intellectual elite to homeless) if you want check it out > Amazon.com: The Reason for God: Timothy Keller: Books I'll be buying many copies to give away.

Wen I love the mug/plantar...SO cute your family is a very"togetherness" family....very sweet. hmmm sorry mom has been so knee/needy of late hope you get a break for a bit now! Viv is staying with sis now(mostly why we drove to VA to deliver her). btw as I type I am hearing the Marine band playing by the Iwo memorial down the hill.....ML my band loving friend I wish you were here.....every tUE EVENING IN THE WARM WEATHER TIME THEY PLAY DOWN THERE A CONCERT(REMEMBER MY PATRIAOTIC CRYING TIME THERE oops a couple of summers ago anyway...we are going tonight with the kids to hear it hope it's not too hot back to Viv Wen I'm hoping for a significant break....which is why I said before that I hope Linda doesn't come to OC with her in a week or so ...we'll see.

ML :healing_hands: regarding your joints....hope they improve when it warms up. Man....I hope Mrs Boss ties things up already! Enough is enough! Ahh right...I forgot you listen to edit....very talented...I can't imagine.... Mrs Boss would think I was translating her stuff to Arabic if I got hold of it Well you will have a year to research a really great cruise ...in the mean time you'll have to take advantage of all the cool stuff around your area that you neglect because it's so "there". How about a boat day cruise around Boston Harbor. DC has lots of that stuff...you can even kayak....I keep wanting to do any or all of that...still haven't gotten around to it.

gosh that band has been playing forever...they must be practicing.

well I'll post and see whats up

gabi when you pop in

oh btw the Jason encounters(what I read) were fun....F word aside....he seemed like his sweet self

Forgot to say that 'Eli Stone' is coming back for 4 Saturday nights, starting June 20, to finish off the series they abruptly cancelled and never bothered to finish airing. Although the TV book did say once they found out they were cancelled, maybe they didn't try as hard and the last episodes aren't that great. But geesh, finish the show and don't leave the audience hanging! TV has gotten so bad - just doesn't care at all about the shows or the audience. Like that website: Television without pity.

The band sounds great. Love the patriotic music! LOL, Mr ML can also sleep amazingly late. Not me! He had a dentist appointment today (or doctor?) at 9:30, so was going to sleep til 8:30, had me re-set the clock. Of course I have to get up with the dog, no matter if I have a day off or not. (grumble)

Another book that looks good is "Everyday Grace: Having Hope, Finding Forgiveness, and Making Miracles" by Marianne Williamson. I haven't read it but it appealed to me/I'm thinking about getting it. That Timothy Keller sounds like the Joel Osteen on TV - I can listen to that guy preach all day, he's so uplifting (until he gets to the christian part, and then I change the channel - LOL).

I can't really be too mad at Mrs Boss because she's twice as frazzled by this as I am, and I know it's coming down on her from above, and she has to do this stuff over until she gets the wording just right, to satisfy whatever (stupid) regulatory language. Doctors have it so tough, aside from having to practice medicine, they have all this paperwork to wrangle.

Jason did seem very sweet and kind (albeit a bit too much beer - ahem) and his usual self. Such a strange business he is in, the whole fannish thing is strange. People who don't know you, but are crazy about you and take an inordinately close interest in you, your doings, etc., travel miles to see you, get totally freaked out to meet you. Strange.

I thought that at TMBG concert - I like their songs but am not fannish, so they were just two musical guys up there, just regular people. I found out they are both named John, grew up in Massachusetts, went to the same high school, went their separate ways, and happened to move into the same building in Brooklyn on the same day, met up again and well, the rest is history! LOL! They are also in a very strange business... Those gigs for Dunkin Donuts (fritalian) probably pay the bills! :>

heyML to bad about your show....you are so right....tv is all business....and not even smart alot of the time I took some pictures of the concert....I'll post them when I get home. I'm gonna look on utube and see if I can find them...it is so good. They are so precise and the musicianship is awesome. Hmmmm Joel....the way he speaks kid of is a turn off to me....he has a huge following it looks like must be me .....the title of that book sounds interesting

I know...the star thing and the fan thing...bazaar...he seems to handle it ok ...he has nice fans

small world about the band and Mass.

well driving home tomorrow...it will be good to sleep in my own bed....and have my morning coffee to myself.... sorry Viv...thanks sis I am looking forward to some alone time!!!

Liz has to fly to NYC on business tomorrow now I have 2 to worry about when she travels. at least she is coming home and not staying.

I cooked them 2 good dinners while I was here....Em and bf came Monday night.....I got a changing table from a yard sale next to my sisters....cleaning that up and touching it up with white paint tomorrow morning before we leave.

wave: see you all from PA

hey Wen
