That's good you are going on the family vacation. I don't know though - as long as you told the boss when you were interviewing/right away that you had a trip planned already and it couldn't be changed, sometimes bosses will be understanding about that.
And of course then the boss wouldn't have to give you a vacation for awhile, so that would be a savings for him.

UGH, MLette went to work this morning and I noticed something is leaking from the new car! So I'll have to tell her when she gets home and she's going to have to call and complaint and take the car back and get them to fix what is leaking (oil? transmission fluid? brake fluid?) I'm no mechanic but something leaked out and onto the driveway that should not. It's truly always something! Oh well, they have to fix it (and for free).

Wow, I don't know if the conservative religious element would ever put up with a woman PM for israel - but then again, Israel had Golda Meier so there's is a precedent. I think a lot of countries are getting women leaders. Even MIT, the engineering school that is so many men, just got a woman president. That was very surprising.

My college just got a new president and she's a scientist. They've only had a dozen presidents since they started but she's the first one who is a scientist. Seems like a very nice and smart woman (would they pick any other kind?). I liked the last president of the college, who was there when MLette was a student - her husband was a doctor and she was a very peppy woman, short haircut, very down to earth and good with people. I was sorry she was going.

Woo, I just heard from Amazon that they mailed my new 'Twilight' book yesterday! I can't wait for it to show up. Hmm, maybe I should take a day off from work and read it!

Hello my friends! Can't believe it's been so long since I've posted. Where does the time go? Hope everyone is doing well. I caught Dragon Wars on the SciFi channel the other day. Wow it was bad. Saw a commercial for that new movie Twilight. Is it just me or does it remind anyone else of Roswell? Anyhoo just had to check in with you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PODMOMMY!!!!
I hope you'll have an amazing day celebrating it with your family and friends! May all of your wishes come true!

Have a great one!

Kins!!! I'm so happy to see you!!! :back _hug: Yea we were just taking about it. Twilight definitely has some Roswell references in it. Not exactly but there are some things... Like the boy and girl can't be together bbecause of this secret the boy has and he doesn't want to hurt the girl. And the girl doesn't really mind.
So glad you stopped by! Hope you'll do it agian soon!

ML, I actually had that vacation planed before I started that last job and the boss said he'd rather me not go so...

Sorry about the leak! That has to be so annoying! I mean you guys just got that car! I hope it's nothing serious and that they'll fix it!

Hope you'll enjoy your new Twilight booki when it gets to you!

podmommy, Wen, Scottie (hope you're having a wonderful time on that vacation) mezz and all

Happy Birthday, Podmom! We celebrate and appreciate your existence and were very glad you were born on this day, and came here to be friends with us.

KINSEY!!! It's so great to see you! Are you in Atlanta now? How is it going/what are you doing? How is LIFE, girlfriend? So great to see your pixels again.

YES on both counts - D-Wars was a really awful movie - but I was excited to see it advertised on TV, see Jason in the commercials (in that gawdawful ugly brown suit) and that it was going to be on SciFi channel. :> How long has it been since we've seen Jason Behr on television? sigh. Too long.

And yes, I think 'Twilight' has a lot of the Roswell vibe to it (and inspires a definitely Roswell-fan-like devotion). It's a great love story, you care about the characters - although I suppose I don't wonder and think about the story like I did with Roswell, wondering what was going to happen and trying to figure stuff out and being sooo excited each week it was on. sigh. Those were the days!

Very cool, saw the post from Admin about 'no Breaking Dawn' spoilers' (Twilight book 4). I am so psyched it's finally coming out! Will not blurt out any spoilers to anybody - I've already probably said more than I should about the book series, to people who haven't read it (yet).

VB that last boss was such a jerk, to say 'I hope you won't take your vacation'! I'm glad you and that job parted ways, because it did not sound like working there would be good.

We showed MLette the leak (and the spot in the driveway, and the spot under her car where it's parked on the street). sigh. I hope she will call up and yell at them and get it fixed. I hope it's something small, like they didn't put the oil change nut in or the oil filter correctly or something easy to fix. Oh well, our car had a little problem (water dripping on the passenger's feet) when we got it and the dealer fixed it right up for us, and - knock wood - hasn't given us trouble since then!

Maggie is back from her trip, but of course going back to work/geting caught up after a vacation is a killer.

Have you heard about Amazon 'kindle' - I guess you get some sort of viewer and download/rent books and read them on it? I totally can't ever see that catching on. Books are pretty perfect the way they are already!! But then again - I'm old!

Started re-watching 'The Dresden Files' DVDs about the wizard in Chicago (played by Toronto, of course). There was another wondeful series that got cancelled after one season and it's too bad, because it was really good. sigh.

Kinsey!!! It's sooo good to see you!!! You have been sooo missed! Please don't wait so long before posts next time... I've Really missed you!!! I hope you've been doing well. How do you like the new city and the new job? I hope it's working out well for you.

And yes, ITA, 'Twilight' does sound a little like 'Roswell'. I'm curious to see it when it comes out, and I'm even more curious to read the series of books. I think I'm going to end up getting them to read sometime soon.

MyrnaLynne, That's awful that MLette's car is leaking something! Hope they can fix it soon with no problems.

And that was sooo nice of her BF to get her flowers and take her out to dinner with his winnings. He really does sound like a nice guy.

Yes, Doctor Who's Last Eppi was amazing! And yes, it was an hour and a half long, instead of it's typical hour. And I LOVED seeing all the Companions together again!

Now it's over until 2009. But I did hear that they were going to make 4 TV movies between now and then, so that's something to look forward to.

And speaking of TV's, I'm glad you are enjoying your new TV. What size did you end up getting after all? I know you didn't want to go too big, as in "Big Screen". (My living room couldn't support a 'Big Screen TV' either.)

Poddy, the Birthday Girl!!! I didn't mean to be nosey about your friends that you had at the Beach house, but thanks for explaining. That's really nice that you have such Great Neighbors! You are so lucky, as THEY are to have YOU for a neighbor.

Vero, I'm glad you decided to go on vacation with your family. It beats staying home, that's for sure! I hope you have a really nice time, and enjoy getting pampered.

Scottie when you show up.

Hugs to All,
Wen

LOL, I wish it was just the AC water dripping - we can tell the difference between oil and water - it's motor oil leaking from the car. :< She hasn't called them yet and I'm kind of annoyed - the sooner you get after them about this stuff, the better. But I think she'll get after them and take care of it. I offered to take off work (she works full-time too) and go up there with her, if she wants. But maybe she'll get the BF to go - it's kind of a long drive, but she's done it a couple of times already (bringing the car home, and driving us home after buying it).

Wow, a job that tells you that you can't have time off for a year! Well, I hope at least they give them off all the legal holidays! Companies are getting worse and worse. Although it's lucky to even have a job right now - one of my friends, who did medical transcription at a hospital in Florida, got laid off - and hasn't found another job in 10 months!

WOHOO, my 'Twilight' novel arrived yesterday. Preorder price was about half the cover price, although I thought the paper they printed it on was so cheap, it might as well have been a paperback. I read today that they sold 1.3 million copies of that book in 24 hrs, when it came out (released Saturday). I'm trying to hold myself back, but I did read about 150 pages of it last night. I wanted to take the day off work and just spend it reading - but my bosses are supposed to go away next week, so that wouldn't be too cool.

The old TVs will work (after Feb 09) if you get a converter box for them (or if you have cable, they will work). We have one TV with the rabbit ears and we'll have to get the coverter box for that, or we'll just get 'snow.'

The TV's not too big. It was 26" diagnonal (which seems huge since the last one was 19") BUT, if you do the wide screen/full screen, it stretches stuff out (screen is a rectangle, TV shows are square) - if you use the normal setting, there is a lot of black space on either side so - humm, probably works out to still being about 19"! LOL! I don't love it that much/see much improvement (we don't have HD TV) but the close-caption feature is great for Mr ML. Also has a sound-equalizing setting, so you don't get the blasting loud commercials. It's pretty cool. With all the modern technology coming, I couldn't see getting an 'old fashioned' one, since we had to replace it.

LOL, reminds me of when we replaced our stereo system, and I insisted we have a CD player in it and Mr ML couldn't see why, as we didn't own any CDs yet, but I said "It's the coming thing." And I was right!

I was thinking that, with MLette's car - I wonder, by the time she's ready to sell/trade in her car for the next one - if gasoline/internal combustion engines will have gone out of style and we'll all be driving cars fueled with something else?!

The new hydrogen car is interesting - but only people in 2 or 3 towns in California can buy them (because you need a hydrogen fill-up station and there are onely 2 or 3 towns where those exist right now!) LOL!And people are a little leery of hydrogen since that whole Hindenburg disaster thing (it was filled with hydrogen). Although my family pointed out it's no more explosive/flammable than gasoline!

Hmm, where are those flying Jetson cars they envisioned for us in the cartoons?

I hope Kinsey drops by again!

Hey all!!!

So today I have both men with me at home today… my day and my brother… And I'm planning on doing something cool for lunch (I hope they'll eat it). I'll let you guys know how it turned out.

ML, well I guess cars can have some problems… just like any other electronic/machine instrument. I hope they'll fix MLette's car. It was there for about a day before trouble started! That's just wrong!

Thanks for the Mags news. Yea coming back to work is always hard… but then catching up is absolutely hell! I hope all is well with you Mags!

Glad you got the last Twilight book! Hope you'll have lot's of fun reading it!

podmommy, glad you got to log on your birthday!
I don't know about a year of no time off (I don't think I could have survived that) but I do understand if bosses want you to not take day off for a while until you know everything there is to know. But you're right they do demand way too much today…

Have fun at Jans!

Wen

Hi Everyone!

Poddy, I'm so glad you got to log on, on your Bday too! I hope you had a Wonderful Bday! And I hope you had a good time at Jan's too!

Sorry to hear that you're kind of feeling blue tho'. Sending Big Hugs your way Sweetie! Please know that we all LOVE YOU and think you are Wonderful!!!

MyrnaLynne, Your new TV (26") sounds like a good size. It sounds like a really nice TV too! And I'm glad you're enjoying it!

I have a 27" right now, and it's a good size for my living room too. But it's not a fancy flat screen, HD, LCD, and all that new stuff kind of TV, and that's why my No.2 son keeps saying we need a new one. (sigh) It works fine, so I don't see the need for a new one.

Besides, we have digital cable hooked up to it, so come Feb., when the change over comes, we'll be fine. It's just the other TV's in the house that are hooked up to cable but are not digital, will need the converter boxes for them, but no biggie on that.

Glad to hear that your last Twilight book arrived. Hope you are enjoying it. (Which I'm sure you are!)

Well, I did it! I went and ordered the Twilight series of books and they'll be here by Monday! Now I can't wait to start reading them!!!

I hadn't heard about the new hydrogen cars! And I LIVE in CA! LOL! I thought the way of the future was the electric/gas hybrid car like the Toyota Prius. (Did I spell that right?)

Anyway, see, you learn something new every day.

And yes, thanks for the update on Maggie. Hope she had a wonderful time with her family on the cruise.

Vero, So, you had the men of the house home with you today. Hope they liked the surprise lunch you made them. (They're lucky that you even made them lunch at all to be honest! LOL! You could have made them make their own lunch if you wanted. LOL!)

And it's true... Boss's and Companies do demand a lot from their employees. I remember when I was temping for the hospital that I ended up getting hired at, that the temp agency told me that I shouldn't take any time off for a year also, and so I didn't, and they hired me! (The hospital hired me, after temping there for a year!)

Plus I came in when EVER they called me in, on days off, weekends, whenever! I was at their beck and call, all because I wanted to get the job, and with going thru' all that, I finally got the job, but boy! Did they make me jump thru' hoops to get it!

**********************************************************

Well, MOTHER is still staying at my house, (driving me nuts!), and I'm still waiting on her hand & foot. (sigh)

She says her foot is not getting better, but she's not making much of an effort to walk on it much either. She only gets up if it's absolutely necessary. (sigh)

Hope Everyone is having a Great Week.

Hugs to All,
Wen

HUGS Poddy - thanks for the reggae meerkats! You don't see THOSE every day! Hope you have a good time with Jan's family. Hope you find something to lift up your heart again soon.

LOL, I read 400 pages of my book last night! I sat up til almost 1 a.m.! tsk tsk. I was trying to pace myself - I stopped for an hour to watch 'Eureka' and of course walked the dog etc - but I just couldn't stay away from it. Still probably have a couple hundred pages left. So much for trying to save it!

Wen I hope you love the 'Twilight' books too!

Ugh, I ordered a Twilight-related t-shirt online and it came - and it would have fit Shiri Appleby! Way... too... tiny! They said it ran small and I ordered a huge size but - nope. Has to go back. Oh well - that should be my life's biggest disappointment, right?

MLette took the car in yesterday, and it was exactly that - the oil drain bolt thing wasn't in properly and they fixed it. But there was another lady with her car there, who also was there a long time for a similar thing - found out it was the water from the air conditioner coming out! So it wasn't wrong to mention it - I guess that happens more often that I thought, people thinking the normal water dripping from the AC in the car is something bad! Cars are pretty mysterious to most people (me included).

The Prius is the hot new thing - all the 'green' celebs like Leo Dicaprio drive them. I didn't like the tiny back window/no rear view they had, although I guess the newer models have fixed that. We were a little leery about getting into a hybrid for MLette, just because the technology is so new (and the cars SO so crazy expensive). Mr ML's brother got one of those newfangled cars and is happy with it. The hydrogen thing is very cutting edge/new. Also heard about a natural gas car, you can fuel up with the gas from your stove/house! LOL! That would be handy (as long as you didn't blow the house up). I worry about blowing up the house with gas. Now and then, it does happen!

Wen you're absolutely right - if you have a nice big TV and it has digital cable and it's working, don't listen to those guys who just wants a new 'bigger is better' TV for the sake of a new TV. We only got this one because the old one up and died on us. As you know, Mr ML Jr got the 'new TV' bug last year (mainly because he's bad at thinking up gifts) and wanted to get one for his dad, and Mr ML said no thanks.

I'm just sorry I listened to Mr ML (LOL, I am ALWAYS sorry when I do that ) and didn't get the built-in DVD player - I'd love to see how the TV looks with something high-def and movie-sized playing on there. He was afraid if we had a DVD player there too, somebody would be hogging the 'good' TV to watch movies (instead of on the 'bad' TV where we have the DVD thing hooked up now).

VB I hope your 'lunch for the guys' was appreciated. You are so good and helpful to your family; I hope they appreciate it!

I don't take much time off, because I'm the only person who does my job, and if I'm away, it just piles up and up til I get back. And when I come back, it's a nightmare catching up. It would be nice to be part of a department, like my old job, and be able to take real vacations. But that other job was so much work, I needed a break from it! I could never type that much and that fast again, all day, every day, anymore. That's how I got the carpal tunnel.

Wen hope Mother's sprain is on the mend and she hobbles back to her own place and gives you a litte break soon! You are a very good daughter to her; she's lucky to have you.

Oh well, back to work!

You guys are making me think I have to try at least the first Twilight book...maybe I can find it on the boardwalk book store.....is it at stores?

Hey all!!

Lunch yesterday came out great. I made creamed potatoes and a salad. My brother loved it and my dad did too so I'm happy… I'm in charge on lunch again today but I'll make something simple.

and thanks everyone for the complements. If I won't do it then no one else would so I guess it better be me.

Wen, have fun with those Twilight books!

I guess they just want someone they can use until they think he/she are good enough for anything more stable… but no days off for a year? That's just wrong!

So I guess your mom just wants to be spoiled for a while… well I guess that's nice for her but pretty much annoying for you… I would tell you to just pull her of that couch but I know you won't (being the sweet nice person you are). It's not good for her to be laying around too much anyhow…. I hope she'll be up and walking soon. Your mom is definitely lucky to have you!

ML, it's just so much fun to read books like that, isn't it? To be so caught up into the story and everything, not being able to leave it alone. Of course it can hurt other aspects of life… but for a while who cares.

About the disappointing shirt.

Well my guess is that anything dripping out of a car is not good… but then if it the AC water then I guess it's ok… but how are we supposed to know what exactly that is.
I guess all of those new car technologies are cool… but most of all they're important for the environment… but you see I think it's funny. All of those big hot-shot telling everyone those things are important for the world and all but then pricing them at this mind-blowing prices and still expect normal people (like you and me, not Leo) to buy them! I mean isn't that funny? I mean if it was that important for the world they would have put a reasonable price for normal people.

That should be a lesson to us all! Never listen to guys!

Well if I'm honest I don't feel much appreciated… Yesterday my brother said thanks – that was a first! Usually they don't.

I know what you mean. When I worked with those lawyers if there were things that could wait they left it for me to type when I get back… and apparently everything could have waited. I had mountains to type when I got back (after one day!!!). So I can definitely understand you. But then I wasn't there forever.

podmommy, I'm so happy to hear you had a good time with Jan's mom and sister! Hope dinner was yummy.

all
Off to make a pretty regular lunch now.

Podmom so glad Jan's family celebrated you and took you out. Very glad for them also they have a wonderful helper to watch/help with Jan. Such a difficult thing!

MLette got home so late from work last night, because she had to take one of her goofy people to the hospital. She has such a responsible job and she's just so amazing! Sorry, needed to brag about my kid! She's so quiet and shy, you'd never know there was a crack manger hiding under there. When she came down and helped in Florida last summer when my parents were sick, my Dad and brother were so impressed with her, they just couldn't get over it. (Gee, if they'd spent any time at all with my family over the past 25 years, maybe they wouldn't have been so surprised - ahem). Her work just gave her a bonus/reward because the place she's running is being run so well. too funny though, they paid her in grocery store coupons instead of $ - so guess who will really benefit from that bonus?

Oh, the downside of wonderful books - I finished it last night - and now what?! It's OVER! It's an amazing let-down to know that story is finished and no more is coming (except the movie in December, but I'm not even sure if I'll like seeing it portrayed as a movie - I don't like the actress they got for the lead girl in the story very much). sigh. Oh well, it was a very happy 4 months or so while I was reading (and re-re-reading) those books. But now it's done.... now what?

Another gloomy cool drizzly day here - it really feels like Fall is starting already! Too soon! Oh well, I like this better than baking heat - some places are over 100 degrees F out in the midwest and the west right now!

LOL VB you are so sensible! Why make an car that saves the environment and is good for everybody, too expensive for most people to buy? Good question! I get mad about people pointing fingers at 'gas guzzling SUVs'. I love my car, it gets pretty good mileage, and that isn't the root of the energy problems (or the cause of global warming) either. Although there are silly enormous cars that get very little miles to the gallon and are simply status symbols (like the Hummer - nobody needs to drive an armored military vehicle around town!)

I'm sure your family appreciates you, but aren't in the habit of saying it. That's one of the things I always try to remember with my family (and with other people) - saying thank-you and being appreciative, when somebody does something! It's such a small thing, but I think very important. I think it's rubbing off too - My son will say "Thank you for making dinner" and stuff like that (to Mr ML, who is still running the kitchen!) Now, if we can just find him another job.... I'd say he can't sit there playing computer games forever - but he definitely could!

Wow, just found out Kyle Schmid is doing another movie, this one with the actors from the Twilight Movie who played Emmett and Alice - some grim thing called 'Strife.' A film with 3 'ex-vampires'!

Got John Barrowman's autobiography (Captain Jack from Torchwood). Almost through with it - had some laugh-out-loud funny bits and wasn't as obnoxious as I thought it might be.
Anyway, nice to have a new book arrive while I was so bereft of my Twilight ones.
