LTL: Truthfully... the U of M campus is usually covered by snow from about mid November to the beginning of March. [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

But it can look quite beautiful with a covering of freshly fallen snow. But there were those days when it was about minus 40 and the wind was howling off the adjacent broad prairie. [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

Note that there are underground tunnels that connect most of the buildings together. [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]

It is nice down by the river. Some times... weather permitting of course...our drawing classes would be held outside. [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]

Then there was the summer when for some bizarre reason I decided to take a course. That class was held in a building adjacent to the Quad and I got to watch students lounging on the grass and/or playing frisbee while the prof droned on and on and on. Giggle.

As for Hockey Parties.... hmmmm... yep... similarities to Animal House have been known to happen. [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

Hmmmm... as a Montrealer... I probably should say "Go Habs Go"... at this point in time. [img]smilies/spineyes.gif[/img]

I never went to that many frat parties... but I did go to a number of parties at Tach� Hall, the guy's residence... which were usually in the very noisy and rambunctious mode. They usually would have a party for a whole floor of the dorm and end up playing "caps" in the corridor. [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

I will also light a candle to the film gods in order to ensure that Podmom comes to Tribeca. [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]

And I should probably go to bed myself. [img]smilies/spineyes.gif[/img]

sarzy: I have never been to a kegger also. I am not even sure that they sell kegs of beer in Canada. They do definitely sell beer in case of 24 cans or bottles though... that are fondly known as a TWO-FOUR. [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

And the area of the campus by the quad is beautiful. The U of M dates from 1877 and most of the older red brick buildings date from that time period with the more modern buildings added in an infill type manner over the last hundred years, or so.

Poddy good luck at the gynie! You do have to wonder about people who become gynies, proctologists, urologists and the like. Generally they go into that 'part' because they think it's really cool and interesting! LOL! I talked to a doctor at the Retina Foundation, where I worked for a little while, and he said he was going into something else "But when I looked into the retina of the eye, it was so incredibly beautiful - how could I specialize in anything else?!" Hm, I bet colon and rectal surgeons probably don't say that to people. Although they do say stuff like "All my patients are a**holes."

Maggie Your college was very beautiful - and very big! I was surprised Wellesley didn't have that many photos on their site - they ought to have at least a 'virtual tour' stroll around thing to see the campus.

LTL Giggle about the 'old facilities'! I've never heard of them keeping a dorm like that, with no bathrooms at all, just for historical value - seems like they could have worked a little addition on the back someplace. Seems practically illegal! Hm, chamber pots or 'going' out the windows, I imagine.

Reminds me of when my brother first moved into Dickinson College in Pennsylvania (Dickinson was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and his dormitory was probably nearly that old too - giggle) and another dad and my dad were looking at the old old old building and little rooms and saying "Is THIS what we're paying all that money for?!"

Oh, wanted to add that, since my school was women only (and still is), there were no fraternities, no 'keggers', and no barfing young men - which has both its upsides (no barf) and downsides (no men). [img]smilies/wink.gif[/img]

Just jumping in here blind, to tell you that behrfanny's dad had to go back in the hospital and tomorrow he gets the electroshock thingy. She is quitting her job this weekend and going to be there sooner than she planned. Lots of good vibes going her way and I know she appreciates all the love and prayers sent her way too.
