Very quiet 4th of July/long weekend. MLette had yesterday off, which was nice. We watched the Boston Pops 4th thing on TV, but switched back and forth to watch the one Macy's put on in NYC, that went around the country to various performers who sang, like Ed Sheeran and Brad Paisley, etc. The Boston concert is very 'old fogey' by comparison! Like Big Band vs. Hiphop!

They tried to be 'hip' by having people text votes on choices of some of the songs Everybody is trying to be hip and get on the technology bandwagon, but it's usually so awkward and random, it makes them seem even more old-fashioned, I think.

Well, I guess patriotism is old fashioned and there was a lot of it on display. Love the sing-along of patriotic songs they did.

Anyway, finally gave up on (rival) NY and got into the Boston show (and stuck with Boston) after awhile; just love when they play the '1812 Overture' (with actual Army cannons) and 'Stars and Stripes Forever' (best day ever for the piccolo players - lol).

But the fireworks show was very smoky - the smoke from the fireworks hung around in the air and then you couldn't really see them, it was odd. Watching fireworks on TV is odd anyway - it could be CGI for all you know! The more you think about these things, the stranger they seem - fireworks are very strange. And orchestras - orchestras are strange too, people sitting around in suits blowing into twisty metal tubes or banging on things etc and all this music comes out.

Oh gosh Wen I'm in no hurry for Debbie to get pregnant until their lives together start working more, um, smoothly. I really think she is a nut, and her health is very delicate too. SIGH.

They sent Mr ML home early from work last night - 5 a.m.! And the subway doesn't start running til 5:30 or 6 or something - so he walked home! It took him an hour and a half to walk home in the middle of the night.

Hi girls

TFTNT ML very season appropriate

I am just popping in to say I'm alive

I am off to do Viv and errands for the afternoon but wanted to say why I was MIA

Fisst I had a bit of a heart scare...I'm fine....but that took up time for a couple of days then we were at the beach house with Liz/Walter and the kids for a week ( this is the first of 2 weeks this summer my sister and bro inlaw will stay at my house and do VIv so I can have a complete rest from that.

Perfect timing what with the heart thing. Don't worry.....bottom line just stress and no real heart issue thank the Lord.

I'll tell you about it later...pretty cool God/daughter story to report about it.

ML sorry about your dad and Mlettes fire scare it is always something.

Sorry about the tooth Wen

good tpo see you back keepsmiling can't wait to hear about your trip!

PODMOM.........that's awful about the heart scare. You couldn't have more stressful things going on your life if you tried. You mentioned doing Viv.......isn't see in the home? Are they not responsible for her well being.....or do you still have lots of responsibilities there?
Take care.....there's a wedding in your future along with another grandbaby........you do realize that?

PodMom, phew! Wen and I were just saying how worried we were getting about your radio-silence. Thank G-d it wasn't a real heart thing - you have much too loving a heart for it to go bad!

And WAY too much stress, my dear!

Mlette just had a patient with similar heart scare (he was fine, went home) and he wanted her name etc, so he could write a note to the hospital, saying how nice/good a nurse she was She's almost at this job 2 years now (wow, time flies) and said she'll get another bonus (I was asking her how finding another job elsewhere is coming...)

She's supposed to move back to her place today/tonight. Servpro, the professional fire cleaning/restoration people, were coming to their apartment this morning (and going to be there 5 hours!!) I hope it's okay to go back. Although her roommate is back there already. Landlord still needs to repair all the damage the firefighters did!

Yes, keepsmiling tell us all about your trip!

Thanks for the well wishes

I DO know about those two big events keepsmiling and I was having these heart palpitations and shortness of breath the weekend Emily came home to look at the two venues and do a wedding dress try on. I was very scared while I was seeing my beautiful daughter trying on dresses that I might not be there

anyway ....I started having those symptoms and thought I might be getting Afiib like my brother and mother have.....same symptoms...so I went to my GP and he did an EKG and it showed some abnormalities to him so he said I needed to see a cardiologist. This was Friday and we were to leave Tuesday for our week at OC. Liz did some research and decided I should go to this heart place near her at a great hospital. She ( and God) worked a miracle and I got in to see a cardiologist that Monday. When I signed in the lady told me I was really lucky to get in because it was because of a cancelation (coincident..not) Liz went with me and came into the examining room with me ( I haven't had anyone in a Drs office with me hardly ever cause my Dr as a kid made house calls) so a tech did an EKG on me but I wasn't having the symptoms. She left and said the Dr would be in soon. I started having the symptoms after she left and Liz went out and got her to come back ( I would have never done that much too timid) she strapped me up again and saw my heart rate was changed and I told her every time it happened and she took a "picture" each time. She was great and did that for quite FEW MINUTES. thE dR WAS SEEING FROM SOMEHWERE AND TOLD HER TO STOP HE HAD SEEN ENOUGHT. (sorry) and he came in and told me it was just stress ( I told him about the last two years etc) if Liz hadn't gone and gotten that tech back I would have had to where a heart monitor on my vacation that afternoon as I was getting ready to leave ( and Liz and I were so grateful and relieved) she said " mom this weird thing happened this morning. I had my alarm clock set to 8:30 so I would call the Dr but I woke up at 8 ...no kids awake but I was weirdly alert.....I kind of layed there thinking maybe I should go back to sleep but something ( someone) told me to get up then and call the heart place right then. She and I both felt God in iIs mercy was getting her up so I could get that canceled appointment. SO that is why I said Liz and He helped me be able to.

Now trying to manage the stress will be a process. With a needy immature mother in a nursing home ( keepsmiling btw when you have someone in a nursing home you are still involved....visitin,g doing laundry, dealing with the staff and on and on but mostly trying to not let your mother who is hating being there make you stressed. That will be the challenge. ) a brother who sadly has to get lots of radiation for the prostate cancer...sister inlaw having massive chemo for ovarian cancer and the new baby....wedding planning...plus the scary Medicaid appointment July 23rd where I have to have all the papers and financial stuff ready so anyway I am getting more in touch with God and just trying to speak truth to myself. SO far I am mostly symptom free...that week at the beach was the perfect cure. I have had a little since returning but not too much.

well you guys know by now that is way long for me so gotta scoot and finish making dinner

PODMOM, that was quite and ordeal you had. Now that you know it is stress.......I hope you are dealing with it.
I did realize there was involvement in the nursing home......Just didn't realize it was that much. What about all of the people that don't have families close to do the special things? When I was on the cruise, our helper Matt had extra duties taking care of hubby in the assisted living. Again, we are so lucky to have Matt with us.
And PODMOM, regarding the cruise.......it was beyond wonderful. Being with so many family members made it extra special. I believe you like Rick Steeves Travel too. My daughter booked three excursions through his book recommendations.....the first on the Amalfi coast/Positano. The guide was marvelous and even though we hit a little rain, we went right on. The second excursion was in the Marseille, FR area.....a wine safari.. We saw the most beautiful country, just like pictures you see in movies and magazines. Our last special Rick Steeves excursion was all day in Monte Carlo, Monaco that included the casino, Price Albert's palace and the guide drove us over the road where Princes Grace died. It was a most delightful day with lots of memories to enjoy later.

Needless to say, the vacation is over and I'm back doing the laundry, cooking meals, etc. Oh well, it fun while it lasted.

You should send that story about Liz waking up and getting that appointment to 'Guideposts' magazine, they love 'mysterious ways' stories about the Lord helping out/prompting people just in time to do stuff!

Wow, what an ordeal you've been on, and WOW, I didn't put together all the things your whole family is dealing with right now - wedding, baby, chemo - Ay ay ay!!

Hot and HUMID here, gosh I hate to sweat.

Mlette moved back to her apartment yesterday - miss her already! LOL! But she'll be back tomorrow, as she has a dentist appointment near us. Nothing new here!

keepsmiling Your trip sounded grand ( to use an antiquated word ) and especialy wonderful with all the family SO happy you got to do that. Yes I did a 2 week Rick Steves tour in Europe and it was great! They do help you to see all the best things and do it in the least touristy way. You are so blessed to have Matt. I am off to the home soon to try and deal with a very scary financial bill I opened today for 10,000. $ all therapy which I thought her Blue Cross part D was covering competelyl like it has all the other times! I am freaked!!!!!!!! Viv is going down hill in every way since being there which is very hard but it is what it is and I can only do what I can...which is still allot.

Glad you have seen so much of Mlette ML our poor siblings and the cancer battle did I mention my brother is still dealing with incontinence and is probably having to get radiation now ?

I so missed the days I wasted tons of time on FF now I have no time

Rick Steves seems like such a nice guy (he reminds me of Ned Flanders on the Simpsons) and I love watching his shows about various places. His trips must be excellent as well!

My officemate guy from Lebanon has been sharing some of his national dishes - one was a box of baklava but not sweet and syrupy like Green baklava (which is awesome), more plain and buttery and with different types of nuts inside. And today he had me try this bread with a topping of olive oil, sumac (sour), salt, sesame seeds and tons of thyme on it - it was really tasty! I wish Mlette would date this guy! LOL! Although neither of them cook, which would be a problem. I think she doesn't like him because I do.

I got my new glasses yesterday and, just like all the other ones from that place, they are too strong, plus I sort of see a 'halo' around things when I look through them. I don't know why this fancy eye doctor place can't make correct eye glasses?

I guess I need a new eyeglass place!

Sorry about the scary bills PodMom! Wen mentioned that they sent some of those to her Mother too. I hope you get it all sorted out. Navigating the care system and the programs that pay for stuff is very confusing!

Friday!

Hi Everyone!

Poddy! It's sooo Good to See You!!! I was really so worried about You!!! Both MyrnaLynne and I were!!! Thank the Good Lord that You are Okay!
I will continue to keep your Bro' and Sis-in-law in my Prayers, Bless their Hearts for what they are going thru' right now. And it goes without saying that You are Always in my Prayers!
I was wondering, when is Emily getting married? I don't think you have ever told us the date?
My Bro's son Evan, is getting married Sept. 13th, and we're all sooo excited about the wedding!

Keepsmiling, Welcome Back! I'm so glad you had a Wonderful Time!!! You sooo needed that vacation! It sounds so lovely all the places that you went to! I'm so glad you got to go on that vacation!

MyrnaLynne, Did MLette mention if all the smoke odor is gone now from her apartment? I so hope it is! And that's good that her landlord got professional cleaners to help clean the apartments from the fire & smoke damage.

And Yes... All these Big Bills have started coming in for MOTHER! And I have to try to get them straightened out! So I know what you are going thru' Poddy! (sigh)

I Hope Everyone has a Great Weekend!

Biggest Hugs,
Wen

MLette's apartment must be habitable, because she's living there. They are working on renovating the burnt up place across the hall. It's a big cleanup. They should rip out the old carpeting in the hallway and replace it too. Great news Wen that Evan is getting married! We are debating going to the family wedding in Texas, but it's soon (October).

Poddy Incontinence can happy after prostate fixing - I hope it gets better! Bad business all around. My Dad did the radioactive 'seeds' and those worked for him. Prayers for healing!

Family party yesterday to meet Bossy Betty's granddaughter's new husband. He's in the Army and a very solid, down to earth kind of guy. She was raised by her mom, our niece, a single mother, and I didn't know she had connected with her father when she turned 18 and he was at the party, along with her half-brother! We were all confused, as we didn't know about this guy at all. Party was at Bossy Betty's and she had cold cuts plus hot Italian stuff, and a gorgeous wedding cake for Meghan, the new bride. A few of her friends from high school were there too. It was a nice day.

Bossy Betty is serious about moving down to NCarolina to follow her (wacky) daughter, maybe next year. And she said she's going down there for Christmas so this will probably be the end of the family Christmas, too. Which is fine with us, but kind of sad, as this year was the end of the family 4th of July, since David died and they aren't hosting that. Times, they are a changing!

Oh and the parents of the kid getting married in Texas, Bossy Betty's son and his wife, came up as a surprise for Meghan's party. Haven't seen them in years. His wife is from Spain, very lovely gal. Their son (future groom) came up to visit for Kris's graduation party, right before she moved to NC, so we just met him. I guess the bride's family is putting on a lavish wedding and it promised to be a really good time but Texas.. and getting Mr ML to fly there... I don't know.

I started to get on yesterday but didn't finish and don't remember what I wrote

back from church and grocery store...ate a bit of lunch and after posting briefly here over to get mom again for the afternoon.

She is getting dehydrated from not drinking and was messed up from that a bit and just being a baby she is so hard. SO I have gotten her out for 3 days and rehydrated her which is so hard emotionally because she is so resistant. This is the way it will be I guess for now....I get her out when I can or do a visit and then she will go down hill while I'm gone. It is very hard.....hopefully some day I can detach emotionally from this but odds aren't good given my track record but I have improved some so I guess there is hope.

MrML has such a big family it is no wonder there are some you rarely see. Glad Bossy B's party was nice. YEs times do change it is weird and hard sometimes.

My sweetest neighbor Laura ( who came to my bible study ( the most recent neighborhood one) and who I have been praying for years to get back to church ( she went went her kids were real young) has been coming to church and with her husband too I am so happy about that. That makes 4 neighbors that are either coming to church and or women's bible study. I ray of light for me

gotta scoot but I plan to do FF while mom sleeps in her chair most of today as she does when I get her out

I'm sorry to hear your Mom goes downhill PodMom and you have to coax her back uphill again.

Wonderful news about your church gals coming back. I know that group is very important to you.

My Dad saw all sorts of doctors (when you are 90, that's about all you do) and the neurologist said there's no fixing the mild blockage in some neck artery that caused him to fall before - he just has to be really careful about it.

HOT yesterday! Mlette and I hid out at the store and shopped (she got some shorts, I got some summer tops) - we could have hid out next at the movies or the mall, but she'd had enough and we went home and hid out in the cool room and had banana splits instead. :p

Speaking of bananas, we just got some and I noticed they had little pictures of Minions on the labels, under the brand name - LOL, those Minions do like bananas! Cute!

ML.......you were so right about your dad and all of the doctor appts. That's all we do for my hubby. Besides that, we have home health people coming by almost every day and our insurance (Humana) have people to drop by for evaluations, etc. We have the best help for him with Matt and he is private pay.

PODMOM.......read in one of the other threads your daughter has an outdoor wedding schedule next July. That's taking a great big chance, is there a plan B? What type of venue has she selected? My second granddaughter will be getting married in June right after she graduates. They have selected a plantation house in the country. There will be lots of air-conditioning I am sure.
Have you seen the sonogram of your new granddaughter?

Hi WEN!

Planning is starting for the big family cruiise (in 10 months!) - they discovered there is no big dining room anymore and no assigned seating/set dining time, but a whole bunch of differenet restaurants, so we need to book our meals for various nights, various places, together, if we want to eat together! So complicated!

It's such a big ship, I think you will need to book everything online before you do it, if you want to chance to do anything.

We've been enjoying sitting out on our top porch so much this summer, I just ordered a little outdoor rug to put out there (green with dragonflies on it), to make it nicer. Next I need a little table to put drinks on and we'll be living the high life - I looked at those but the prices were ridiculous! I want to play like $15 and a lot of them were $200-$300!

But summer is already over, as far as retailers are concerned, and stuff is going on sale (so they can out the Halloween stuff - in August!)

Mrs Boss took the rest of the week off - a break for me, too!
