This is so going to rock! We've got a nice sized group now. I'm thinking we'll probably need name tags. You know with both our screen names and our real names.

I would think there is a definite possibility of him being there. After all, it is the first time that the film is being shown. At least I think it is. And it wouldn't be that great of a distance for him to get there.

If he is there and we get to meet him, don't worry. He's a complete sweetheart with his fans. I only met him once (celebrity basketball) and he was just fantastic with everyone. And I've never heard different from anybody else from their experiences of meeting him. He may be a very private person, but that hasn't made him be withdrawn from talking to his fans.

I am hoping that perhaps I will get to see some celebrities (even if I'm not fans of them). A friend of mine from the area said that the hotel I booked a room at is THE place to stay, and if he was a celebrity it would be his choice. Hard to say though. If I was a celebrity, would I stay in the immediate vicinity of where I was going to be appearing? Maybe. Maybe not. Only time will tell I guess.

How many are we up to now for attending?

If this was a private party, I would agree, but since we'll be at a public festival, for safety reasons, that may not wise. Sonoma is a pretty 'safe' town, but there are nuts everywhere.

I'm betting Mike Neusom, the mayor of San Fransico will be there. You might remember him from the gay marriage controversery in San Franciso. He's a pretty fine looking man. His wife is in the movie. I would think that any local liberal celebrities would be there to support the mayor and his wife. And there are several celebrities that live in the Bay Area, many in the north bay region, where Sonoma is located. Sky Walker Ranch is around there somewhere.

I know Sean Penn lives around there somewhere. So does Grace Slick of the Jefferson Airplane/star Ship.

Personally, it wouldn't bother me. I wouldn't feel at risk by having a small sticker that said "Eccentric One - Kara". But I will certainly go along with whatever everybody else wants. Just because I'm comfortable with that doesn't mean anyone else is. (Heck, I was comfortable with flying immediately after 9-11 and still to this day). And certainly the last thing I want is for anyone to be uncomfortable. I was only thinking along the lines of me hoping to call everyone by the correct name and being able to connect them with their online postings. A couple of you seem to have already met before, but I've not met any of you yet. I guess I can always create a little cheat sheet for myself with screen names and real names (at least first names. I doubt even I would share my last name.) I personally would also like to connect it with anybody over from RoswellFanatics. Breathless is a given. And can I tell you all how excited I am that she is joining us! Has someone kept an accurate track of who all is going to be there?

And for those who aren't able to join us, I'll have my laptop with me. I am planning on logging onto the board as soon as we get back from the Friday showing. Perhaps the whole gang might be interested in joining me in my hotel room for a bit to do a group posting on our thoughts? My hotel room comes with high-speed internet access. Then please let me introduce myself, my name is TaffyCat and I've been known to write a story or two myself.

I'm pretty sure cheridreamer has a tally on who's coming. Cheri, have you called the restuarant and increased the reservation yet?

As a woman who has traveled solo more times than I've cared to for business, I always error on the side of caution. I'm sure by the end of dinner we'll have down who's who. Maybe Cheri can print us out a list of who's coming and their corresponding real first name, if she has it?

As for flying post 9/11, I was flying on 9/10, and I vividly remember the guy behind us giving the flight attendant a hard time about a case of wine he wanted to store underneath the seat, but the case was too big, his answer, "don't worry, I'll just use my box cutter here to cut the box down and make it fit," which is exactly what he did. And no, they did not take the box cutter away from him afterwards either. Of course that all changed 24hrs later.

But it hasn't stopped me from flying. Fortunately for me, Sonoma is less than three hours away by car. The whole area is absolutely beautiful, with lots of small artsy resort type towns, and if you like wine, you can drive thru Napa going from winery to winery, wine tasting but be careful of how much sampling you do. The cops absolutely keep a close eye on things. It used to be free, but last I heard some wineries were charging a small tasting fee. And the weather should be great. Not too hot, not too cold, and hopefully no rain. Bring a medium weight jacket though, it's bound to be chilly at night.
Looking forward to meeting everyone, or seeing others again, next week!

Taffy,

Get this. I was a ticket agent for Northwest Airlines until 9/30 (when I got laid off). I have a whole different perspective on the events. Not to mention a whole set of issues over how the airlines handled things. It was truly amazing to talk to passengers when I got back to work. 9-10 and 9-11 were my days off. The majority of passengers had stories they needed to tell. How just last week they had been in NY, dancing at Windows to the World. A good friend used to the work in the WTC. Etc. Everybody just needed to talk and share. It was how many people were dealing with the aftermath. As an airline employee it was interesting to watch how the entire industry dealt with the airs being closed for the first time ever...and then trying to cripple back into action.

I also have travelled by myself quite a bit. (I am a former airline brat - my dad also worked for NWA and I have travelled my entire life). Being a single woman, I still like to travel as much as I can. Usually I go to England once a year. Alone. Started doing that when I was 18. I have a feeling we'll be able to have some interesting conversations. Very much looking forward to it.

Good question! I've been wondering the same myself. What on earth does one wear to a film festival? Do you dress up? Do you dress artsy, since it is mostly indie films? Should I wear jeans or a nice dress? I don't know a single person who has been to one of these things before. I want to fit in - to an extent. I don't mind being eccentric (go figure, with my screen name), but I don't want to look like an idiot and be completely inappropriate.

What's everyone else thinking? Glad that you are going to join us Julie! I was wondering if you were going to. I saw you on the Tribeca thread.

I KNOW I have read your stories before. I recognize your name, but for the life of me I can't remember the titles. Geez, I need to get more sleep before I post!

I am Eccentric One both here and on RoswellFanatics. There I am a moderator on the CC and AU forums. And I am proud to say that I won the first best feedbacker award a couple of rounds back. I am completely thrilled by that, since I didn't even vote. So it was down to other people saying that about me. It's always nice to be noticed by others. I couldn't have been more proud if it was an award for being an author.

First off - WELCOME!

As to what to wear, since I have to drop some stuff off at a client beforehand, I'll probably be in slacks (maybe cropped pants since it's a Friday, and California did invent casual Fridays), a top and jacket. And comfortable shoes! I wouldn't expect anyone to dress up. Just something comfortable for you to go out to dinner and a movie in. If that's jeans and a t-shirt, then that's fine!

As for my location - I'm in the central valley, a little less than an hour south of the Altamont Pass/I-580. But I'm originally from San Jose.

ETA: Congrats Eccentric One on your best F/B award! As for my stories's names, the more recent ones - Those Meddling Fates Trilogy - Wish You Were Here, Fortunate Son, Can They Hear You Scream?, Welcome to My World, The Gods Are Bored, and a few earlier ones that are buried in the archives at Fanatics.
