| It's so true it's one of those movies you can't get off your mind even with its flaws. I can't wait to see it again to compaire it to the first time, minus the snow boots. ![]() | |||

| I can't get it off my mind but I don't know how much of that is because Jason is in it and how much is because of the movie itself. I wrote a description of my experience attending the Gen Arts Film Festival. It turned out to be 5 pages long. I was able to pare it down to 3 pages to post it here, but if the mods think that's too much, I'll understand if they delete or edit it. Here it is: The best thing about dinner, though, was discussing “Roswell”. I was in heaven. My family and friends aren’t Roswell fans and they don’t understand my passion for it so there is no one for me to talk to about it. But here I was with a whole group of people who wanted to talk about Roswell! And some of them had actually been fans when it was in production and had visited the sets and knew all the gossip and back stories! If there is a heaven, this is what it will be like. I’m sure of it. * * * When the lobby opened we went inside and got in line at the theater door. Loretta and Nadine joined us while we were standing in line. We were told we had to wait to enter the theater, they said for 20 minutes, but I don’t think it was that long. The Gen Arts Film Festival (GAFF) people kept telling us there was free wine, beer and flavored water, popcorn and cookies in the lobby but we weren’t leaving our spot first in line for anything! As we had planned, we were the first to enter the theater. The seats in the middle of the theater were roped off for cast and crew so we sat in the first row of seats in front of the roped off area. It turned out there weren’t enough seats for us in that row so Michelle and I sat in the second row in front of the reserved seats. At some point (now I’m really into the world of fog) someone noticed Jason’s reserved seat. It was directly behind us, four rows back. So everyone took pictures of the seat with his name on it. Suddenly Jason was spotted walking down the aisle. I quickly turned around and found him. I melted down in my seat and probably made some kind of groaning noise and said something like “My God, he is gorgeous!” Michelle, who has met Jason at least once before (sorry, Michelle, fog again, can’t remember how many times you’ve met Jason) just laughed in sympathy. Jason stood in the aisle for a while talking with the GAFF organizer. At least I think it was the Gaff organizer; I was looking at Jason, not the guy he was talking to! Eventually we deduced that someone was sitting in Jason’s reserved seat, so they were trying to figure out where Jason would sit. Ultimately, Jason sat on the aisle (or one seat in) three rows behind me. I finally remembered to take my camera out of my purse just as Jason sat down. Ugh! I’m just not a photo-hound. I always forget to have my camera ready. I tried to take a couple of shots of Jason sitting down but the guy in the row behind me glared at me. I think the flash bothered him. Unfortunately, I got a great photo of the irritated guy, but only so-so photos of Jason off in the black distance. The short and the movie were both really good. I was worried because the one review I read about Frost by a critic had not been that favorable. And, granted, Frost probably won’t win an Oscar, but it was a very enjoyable movie, and Jason was wonderful in it. The critic had compared Jason to Tom Cruise (ewwww!!!!!!), and how he got that I certainly don’t know. Jason’s face and eyes are so expressive and his acting is so much more from his heart. One day that critic will eat his words. After the movie there was a Q&A with the directors and actors. I’m not a film buff so even though it was interesting, I was mainly just watching Jason. And, actually, I could just watch Jason 24/7, so I was happy. :o) Then the big moment arrived. The GAFF staff asked everyone to leave the theater and go to The Bowery Hotel quickly because the party was free from 10 to midnight only. But Jason’s fans had no intention of letting him leave without stopping to talk with us. I am so completely grateful that the Fantastic Company was there because I never would have had the nerve to walk up to Jason to ask for his autograph. I would have just watched him walk out of the theater as I quietly melted onto the floor. I took my Roswell High t-shirt out of my purse. (I just want to mention here that I am very proud that I was able to stuff that big shirt into my little purse because I didn’t want to look any nerdier than necessary carrying around a high school t-shirt all night.) I handed the t-shirt and the Sharpie pen to Jason and I may not have said anything at all, or I may have said “can you sign this?” (The “fog” again.) Fortunately, Crystal has supplied me with his actual words. He said: “Oh my goodness. Where did you find that?" I do remember that I told him there is a website that sells TV memorabilia. He asked if he should sign it “Max”, his character on “Roswell” and I tapped him on the arm, like you do when you’re joshing with a friend, and said “Yes, I was wondering about that too.” And then I realized I had touched Jason! He didn’t seem to care, if he even noticed, but I was horrified. I can’t believe I did that. I was so embarrassed, so I slid out to stand behind some of the other fans. Then I remembered we had made a pact for everyone to take pictures while everyone else was having their picture taken with Jason, so I fumbled my camera out again and started trying to take pictures. I did manage to get a couple of good photos of Tanya and Meghan, and a good photo of Jason talking to Kay. I think the photo I took of Meghan was during one of the sweetest moments of the night. Meghan flew in from Wisconsin just to see this movie and meet Jason. She took two photos with Jason and both came out blurry. She was so apologetic for taking up so much of his time, but she so wanted a picture with Jason. Jason was very understanding and took both photos with no problem, and after the second blurry photo, he took her camera and adjusted it and said ‘try it now.’ And it worked and Meghan was able to get her photo with Jason. He is just the nicest guy you could ever meet. And then it was the moment of truth. I really hate to have my picture taken. And now, at the weight I am, it was torture even thinking about it. But would I ever have the chance to meet Jason again? You never know. So I walked back up to him and, I don’t think I even asked, just pointed my camera at him and said “would you?” and he said something like “of course.” I think I gave my camera to Crystal to take the picture. It was either Crystal or Meghan, I think. (MAJOR brain fog at this point!) I usually like to try to compose my face so that it doesn’t appear as wide as the side of a barn, but there was no composing possible that day. So I stood next to Jason and had our picture taken, thinking “there is no way I can get this -eating grin off my face!” This was pretty close to the end of the photo session and Jason suggested a group photo! Jason suggested it! OMG! We were all so busy getting in the shot, that we forgot to give our cameras to Scott (Tanya’s long-suffering friend). What a great guy Scott is for being our camera man, even if the one and only group photo came out blurry. And, in a way, it really wasn’t his fault. It was the GAFF Man’s fault. During the entire autograph session, the GAFF Man was telling us that Jason had to leave because he was going to miss his ride. Jason, sweetheart that he is, ignored the guy and kept telling us it was no problem, he would sign autographs and take pictures with us. When we were taking the group photo, that annoying GAFF Man was still trying to hustle Jason off to the party so we didn’t get a second shot, and we didn’t discover the first shot was fuzzy until later. Way to go, GAFF MAN! While I do appreciate that GAFF Man and the Festival are the reasons Jason was in town to begin with, would just one more photo have killed him? At first I thought the “Jason will miss his ride” was just a ploy, because who would leave the star at the theater? But after I saw the David, Jr. film where all the stars were driven to the theater in the Acura SUV, I realized that Jason probably did miss his ride, because we saw him get into a cab outside the theater while we were looking for a few cabs (there were 11 of us) ourselves! We went to the party at The Bowery Hotel where the stars were sequestered in a seating area that was visible to all, but divided from the hoi polloi by a few steps down into a cozy area around the fire place. The Fantastic Company found a good viewing spot and proceeded to watch Jason until he left. It was a good thing we stopped Jason at the theater because we had no chance to get near him at the party. * * * I got back to my hotel room and saw that it was 2:45 a.m. I am too old for this ! I slept until 11 then jumped into the shower, dressed and checked out of the hotel. I walked over to Penn Station and saw there was a train leaving for D.C. in half an hour. I didn’t want to wait 4 hours for the bus, and then sit in the bus another 4 hours, so I bought a train ticket, bought an egg salad sandwich, and jumped on the train back to D.C. When I got back home, I fed the cats and fell into bed. The trip was definitely, most extremely, and completely WORTH EVERY PENNY and every missed minute of sleep! ![]() I want to send my sincerest “thank you so much” to Erin for hooking me up with the GAFF info and for inviting me to join the “Fantastic Company”, Jason’s New York fans, for the premiere. And "thank you" to the Fantastic Company for being such gracious hosts. It was really great! | |||
