Frost got into the Newport Beach Film Festival

The showing will be on Saturday, April 26th at 6:00 p.m. and of course I am out of town that weekend

Seven nights, seven films and seven afterparties: It's one sweet deal for cinephiles.

The 13th annual Gen Art Film Festival opening this week features a select showcase of exciting indie flicks from emerging artists. But unlike other festivals, Gen Art gives its everyday audience the four-star treatment. Each night, ticketholders can see a short and a feature-length film premiere before joining the actors and directors at a VIP afterparty, at hotspots like the Bowery Hotel and Pink Elephant.

"We are the antithesis of a festival like Tribeca," says Jeff Abramson, Gen Art festival director and head programmer. "We make it really easy. There's one show and one feature a night, and everybody in the audience who buys a ticket is invited to the afterparty. We really want to involve the local film community and the film lovers."

The festival opens Wednesday with "Diminished Capacity," a bittersweet comedy starring Matthew Broderick at the Ziegfeld Theater. The rest of the run screens in Chelsea's Visual Arts Theater, where guests are also invited to panel discussions with some of the featured filmmakers and producers.

"It's such a cool festival, and it's been around for a while, yet it's still maintained that indie credibility," says Brooklyn actor/producer Mike Landry, whose film "Frost" makes its hometown debut at the fest on April 7. "Sometimes you go to these festivals with three or four hundred films playing, and it's difficult to get attention for your project. The fact that [Gen Art] only picked seven films is a real honor for us."

"Frost," the first feature produced by Landry's company C Plus Pictures, follows a New York playboy going through an existential crisis, in which Landry plays the best friend and comic relief.

"All of the actors in the film are wonderful," he says. "From Jason Behr ["The Grudge"] to Krysten Ritter ["27 Dresses"] they're all sort of blowing up in their own regard right now."

Other Gen Art success stories include "It's All Gone Pete Tong" and "Wristcutters: A Love Story." This year's featured picks were pulled from Sundance, Slamdance and SXSW, with the hotly anticipated drama "The Take" starring John Leguizamo and Rosie Perez closing the festival on April 9.

It sucks you'll be out of town that weekend! And thanks for the article!

The panel was pretty good! They mentioned Jason quite a bit. Two fabulous stories in particular. The little girl who plays Sophie in the film, she mentioned how she and Jason engaged in a chocolate chip cookie eating contest! She couldn't remember who won though, lol. Oh, and she baked him a cake that just the two of them devoured.

And Thomas recalled how he had Jason do the 'shotgun' scene (the funny bit in the trailer where he's drinking beer) about 8 times to see how long he could remain standing and remember his lines. LOL!

The talk was wonderful. I loved when the girl India who played Sophie in the movie said how she got to know the two main leads of FROST very well.

She was just grinning when she was talking about her and Jason eating Chocloate being they both love it so.

I just loved how she baked him a Chocloate cake. How endearing of her.

See even at a young age India knows that a way to a man's heart is though food. Smart girl!

I loved how the director was talking about the whole beer can shotgun scene and how they used real beer for the shot in order to get the real effect of the beer shot gun. They did the shot 8 times to see how much beer Jason could handel and to if Jason was able to say his lines.

Lucky for them they said that being he was from Minnoseta he has a high tolerence but they said towards the end he was slurring. Lucky for Jason the next scene they shot FROST was so port to be sleeping.

They have it all on tape too!

This is the beer shotgun scene they were talking about in the movie

I can't wait for tomorrow night!

I liked when Thomas mentioned Jason's from Minnesota so he has a high tolerance for alcohol.
