Paul Woodrugh (True Detective) Appreciation Thread #8: Because Paul Was A 'God Warrior'

Welcome to Paul Woodrugh {True Detective} appreciation thread

Premieres Sunday, June 21st on HBO

Season 2 of “True Detective” will focus on three police officers and a career criminal navigating a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.
Paul Woodrugh, a handsome, 28-year-old military veteran who has seen his own share of violence and destruction. He will be a very different sort of cop - a man running from a difficult past and from 'a scandal that never happened.' He’s a motorcycle California Highway Patrol officer who’s put on leave after soliciting oral sex from a beautiful girl he pulls over for drunk driving. He reports to Commander Floyd Heschmeyer and has a Latino girlfriend he breaks up with when he’s assigned to the Caspar investigation.

Quote:
A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California. Colin Farrell is Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective in the all-industrial City of Vinci, LA County. Vince Vaughn plays Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his life’s work, while his wife and closest ally (Kelly Reilly), struggles with his choices and her own. Rachel McAdams is Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective often at odds with the system she serves, while Taylor Kitsch plays Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle cop for the California Highway Patrol who discovers a crime scene which triggers an investigation involving three law enforcement groups, multiple criminal collusions, and billions of dollars.

Adria Arjona ... Emily
Colin Farrell ... Ray Velcoro
Taylor Kitsch ... Paul Woodrugh
Rachel McAdams ... Sheriff Ani Bezzerides

I always thought that Frank knew that there was a good possibility that the guy he gave Ray to kill wasn't actually the guy...

I think he was surprised but ultimately didn't care how messed up it was. He didn't care enough about Ray to feel bad about the situation.

The way Frank's wife saunters into the kitchen is just so comical to me. I don't know what she was thinking through half of her scenes, she's a good actress she's just ridiculous in this role.

I remember having not seen Taylor in anything in awhile and then hearing him talk in TD just how freaking deep his voice is. It takes me by surprise almost every time, voice again...so low the first time he talks this episode.

It's like she's high or something the whole series.

That rumble in his voice is so sexy.

I have trouble seeing him and Rachel on screen together with out giggling in my head. I wonder if they were already hooking up when they filmed the scene, or if they were still in the flirty stages.

Rachel strikes me as just a guys girl super laid back and easy to get along with, they were probably friends for the majority of filming. Who knows when they actually started hooking up, there were a few sightings of them away from filming out in April-ish which would have probably been around the time the last few episodes were filmed.

"You know me. You just didn't know you did." That dialogue!

Paul would've been an excellent detective.

Ani's sister, says "I heard..." one more time, we get it, you heard these details from someone else. You don't need to say it 20 times.

I remember watching this episode for the first time and thinking, 'just get to the orgy party' since it had been so hyped. And honestly, I feel like this season struggles when the main players are apart, when they're together is when the story becomes interesting.

Yeah, she was prepping for the party, I'll give her that. I wonder how long Rachel trained with the knives and if she remembers any of it. She looks badass doing it. I want her arms.

I like Vince with the kid, it's interesting to see him with this random kid and then Ray with his kid...Ray is a mess. Ray's kid and I would get along. Pizza and Friends is always on my agenda.
