EXCLUSIVE: Taylor Kitsch has been set as the new male lead in Wash Me in the River, after Colson “Machine Gun Kelly” Baker dropped out due to scheduling. Kitsch joins Robert De Niro and John Malkovich a drama that will be directed next month by Randall Emmett. Emmett restarted production and wrapped on Midnight in the Switchgrass, the vet producer’s directing debut. That film, which had Baker in its ensemble cast, halted five days into production when the pandemic shut everything last March. Wash Me in the River shoots early next month in Georgia and Puerto Rico. The action-thriller is in the vein of No Country for Old Men. Kitsch will play a recovering addict who goes Man On Fire toward every drug dealer he thinks might have played a role in his fiance’s death. Two cops are hot on his trail. Script was written by Adam Taylor Barker and Chris Sivertson did a rewrite. Emmett/Furla’s Emmett, George Furla, and Tim Sullivan will produce. Alex Eckert, Nicholas D’Angelo, and Lydia Hull are the executive producers. Highland Film Group handles international sales. Kitsch is repped by Range Media Partners and Untitled.

The really clean shaven look just doesn't do it for me.

Regardless, I'm sure he's super excited to be in a movie with De Niro and Malkovich, though it sounds like they'll be chasing him for most of the movie.

I would be so excited!! They are such great actors! Praying now for great marketing!!!

It's an indie, which means they'll be pitching it for distribution. I always get excited of the prospects of indie movies because they're generally festival bound which is always a lot of appearances.

I looked back at some of the news when Machine Gun Kelly was announced to be attached to it and it did say it was getting buzz at TIFF this year. And does mention the start date for filming is November 9.

I'm always up for appearances!! I wish Taylor liked that part of the process more. I feel like he would do more if he did.

I wonder if the November 9 date is still accurate if the cast and crew have to arrive in time to quarantine???

I don't know what Georgia's protocols are. I don't think the movie that's filming here required quarantine prior to filming but does require testing daily.

Here is a more detailed synopsis of he story:

Sheriff Church (Robert de Niro) and Detective Zeppelin strive to keep the peace in their rough town, where residents’ only two interests are the church or oxycodone. Newly engaged Shelby John (Taylor Kitsch) and Ruby Red want a fresh start. They decide to have a family together and get clean, with the support of Peter, Ruby’s brother-in-law (John Malkovich). However Shelby discovers his beloved Ruby dead on their porch before she could fulfill her final wish: to be baptized in the river and washed away from her past sins. Filled with fiery rage, Shelby embarks on a vengeful killing spree to right all the wrong done to Ruby by every link in the drug dealing chain. Armed with nothing but adrenaline and a nail gun, Shelby picks off dealers and junkies one by one until he gets to the top. Sheriff Church and Detective Zeppelin must race against the clock to put an end to Shelby’s vigilante justice before his fight with the crime lord Coyote turns the entire town into a bloodbath.
