I was just kind of categorizing the success based on public/media perception. But in the long run all that matters is the powers that be in Hollywood, and they clearly saw and knew that those movies failures were not on Taylor.

I know that Taylor would say he has no regrets doing any of it. But even now he's slowly kind of changing his tune and saying that it worked out for the best because he would be locked into those 10 year contracts if those movies had success. Just imagine if John Carter and Battleship had been huge Blockbusters. How different his career trajectory would have been, we might have been stuck with mindless Blockbusters for the past five years. It is kind of a blessing in disguise that it allowed him to take a step back and take more interesting roles that show his acting chops, have a bit more freedom.

Maybe! I don't know. Maybe he would have just gone on to do straight character work right away like he was kind of leaning with Bang Bang Club. Maybe it would have been the same situation, he did smaller movies to lead up to a leading man role and then failed again. I think he's found his niche.

Well, he said he would've fit in small indies in between the JC and Battleship movies. At least we would have more movies for our rotation. lol I do think the JC sequel would've been better than the first, which had to be the origin story and was Stanton's first live-action film. They would've learned from their mistakes. And hey, maybe one of the late Battleships would've actually been good.

I think the original JC probably should have been more than one movie. As someone who knew nothing about the story it was/still is confusing to follow at times. But finally being immersed in that world that's already been introduced would be interesting.

I wouldn't have wanted JC/Battleship sequels just because it would have eliminated the possibility for him to go back to TV, which is my favorite.

I can’t believe they thought battleship would be a franchise. Wait, let me catch my breath, still laughing over that. I mean, seriously.

JC was confusing and too long. But, it wasn’t awful. There could have been a sequel for that.

I don't know, maybe they were going for a Transformers type franchise with Battleship. But they destroyed the aliens, what exactly would the plot of the next movie be? Hopper coming up with the idea of the board game Battleship?

I don’t even know. Not Pete’s greatest idea...

There's an after-credits scene that sets up the sequel (that we'll never get).

I do remember the end credits scene, now that you mention it, the aliens showing up wherever in their little pod.

And we’re all better for it!

I like him wearing a watch. I know they're not really practical any longer with everyone having their phone in hand at all times but I like it as a fashion statement.
