Bringing what S Craig Zahler said about Matthew/Lost to this thread too

Quote:
On a show like Lost, I really liked the first few seasons of it and then had some problems after that, in terms of the writing, but you watch someone like Matthew Fox go through, what, ten directors and fifteen writers handling the same character and he's still centered doing that real work. There's a point where you realize the quality control on that character in that show is Matthew Fox. It's not that all these directors landed in the same place and all these writers landed in the same place. It's him, so I knew he was going to be very real.
Quint talks cannibals, westerns, Kurt Russell and more with BONE TOMAHAWK director S. Craig Zahler!

Same here. I'm glad there's still plenty of Jack love around, especially on Twitter.

That's one of my favorite things anyone's ever said about Matthew. I love how much Zahler truly appreciates his talent. He kept that show together during some of the more problematic storylines and he's never been given the proper credit before.

Apart from Damon, who gave Matthew a lot of similar credit in an article this time last year. S Craig Zahler recognises exactly the same traits in Matthew as an actor as Damon always did.

Neil LaBute recognised it too.

Yes. Hopefully more directors/writers are realizing it and offering him some good roles worthy of his talent.

I hope so.

I think these quotes from Details in 2009 are very revealing. Even back then Damon really understood what Foxy wanted from the future in a way that Carlton didn't. Carlton's quote was very flattering but Damon gets to the essence of what makes Matthew tick.

Quote:
"You won't be seeing Matthew on TV anymore, you'll see him in big movies," says Carlton Cuse, Lost's co-executive producer and cowriter. "He has that cocktail of dangerous and charming. He has a leading man's good looks, and heroic qualities as an actor."

Cuse's partner, Damon Lindelof, senses that Fox might be happier in—and more challenged by—smaller roles of considerable depth: "He has the potential to be a leading man, but I think he's interested in those quirky transformative roles. Three, four years from now I can see him getting a Supporting Actor nomination. . . . He wants acting to be hard, to be torture. He does not want to ski the bunny slope."

Yes. A lot of people don't understand that about Matthew. He's not interested in easy mainstream roles.
