Yeah they always had kind of a sisters relationship going on (lol,in fact Kate was basically Claire's sister - in law). Kate always helped Claire out but after raising her child,that bond really grew stronger. Kate really made the most selfless act in committing herself to the mission of bringing Claire back to Aaron

Exactly, and she did it because she knew it was the right thing to do. She did it for Aaron, for Claire, and for herself, even know it KILLED her to do it. IT really does show just have selfless she is and how she'll do anything for the people that she loves.

I see Kate/Sun as BFFs, and Kate/Claire as sisters. Siblings fight a lot more than friends, and after everything that happened, Kate and Claire were holding hands and they are family. With Sun it's the friend vibe, she watched Aaron for Kate, blah blah, totally BFFs.
