Transferred from GMP February 1980 after a prolific 12 year period at A-Division Manchester. Reasons for transfer remain personal but I suspect DCI Hunt felt that after the break-up of his marriage and the untimely death of his long-serving Detective Inspector, Sam Tyler, that his tenure in the North had reached its natural conclusion. Relocated to the Met bringing with him two of the officers from his division.

I welcome this in the spirit of a cross-pollination of experiences and ideas between forces that is so encouraged by our incumbent Chief Commissioner. DCI Hunt is a shining example of the "doer". A proactive officer who instils a strong sense of loyalty from his subordinates even if at times he fails to show due deference to his seniors. To be blunt, DCI Hunt can be a cheeky bastard with a defiant stare that I once noticed in a Labrador of my wife's. Said Labrador (Suki) was eventually destroyed when she bit me on the hand.

I am glad to say that no such fate will befall DCI Hunt provided he realizes that he is not a lone maverick but part of a team. A club if you will. Or indeed a fraternity. The sooner he accepts this, the better. A tendency to apprehend with violent prejudice. Provided his charge sheet remains healthy, I am prepared merely to observe such activity at this time. But DCI Hunt must understand that the Metropolitan Police Force is under public and federal scrutiny as never before.

Hobbies appear to be drinking and darts, neither of which interferes with his work as a senior CID officer.

Report compiled by Chief Superintendent Mackintosh.

“Drugs, eh? What’s the point. They make you forget, make you talk funny, make you see things that aren’t there. My old grandma got all of that for free when she had a stroke.”

"Gene Hunt smashes doors in. He does not pick girly locks!"

"I've got a pain in the arse named Sam"

"I could drink every one of those toe-rags under the table and still stop off for a pint on my way home".

"If I wanted a lecture about drinking I'd ask the missus".

“I'm Gene Hunt. Your DCI. And it's 1973. Nearly Dinner Time. I'm havin hoops.“

"Find out who the dead woman was, find out who killed her. Do it now... Hold up, hold up. Do it first thing tomorrow. Beer o'clock gentlemen."

"Anything happens to this motor and I come round your houses and stamp on all your toys. Got it? Good kids...."

"I do NOT snore!"

"You are surrounded by armed bastards!"

"Right, let's fire up the Quatrro"

"D.I Drake you appear to be drunk in charge of a handbag and dressed like a tart again"

"Anything you do say will be taken down, ripped up and shoved down your scrawny little throat until you choke to death, Gene Hunt Chapter 1 Verse 2"

“Take that seatbelt off! You're a police officer, not a bloody vicar.”

"I am not dying in a trattoria!"

"No, not quite. You can despise us, you can disown us, you can even try and close us down, but you will never break us! We are police officers! We are brothers! We are UN-BLOODY-BREAKABLE!"

"You know, some people get Pick Of The Pops. Not me, I get Pick Of The Twats! In the car! Now! Move!"

"Oh, let her come. She can head butt us out of any trouble. Right, quick word about police brutality. Lots of it."

James Graham's National Theatre hit 'This House', which starred Philip Glenister, is to become a BBC television political drama.

James Graham had a huge hit at the National Theatre with his play This House, about the hung parliaments of the Seventies. Now, The Telegraph hears that the talented 31-year-old playwright has been invited by the BBC develop it as a television series.

There is no news on casting yet though. “It’s too early to talk about casting, but I loved the actors who brought it alive when it was first staged as a play,” says Graham of last year’s production which starred Philip Glenister, Julian Wadham and Rupert Vansittart. “Things can go awry in the world of television development, but I’m thrilled that they are interested in it.”

In the his interview, Graham also commented on politicians who came to see This House. “George Osborne came along to see This House and said he enjoyed it.”
