In the US version Sam's mum is called Rose Tyler... that might be a DW reference. We do know for a fact that Sam's last name is Tyler because of Rose Tyler from DW... so quiet possible I'd say

Agreed, I think it's highly possible that it's a shout out to Doctor Who. Since Sam's name was already chosen as a DW reference, it's most likely that naming his mum in the US version Rose isn't a coincidence either.
