I don't think it's true, I know Phil said in an interview that TPTB thought it's best to leave it here, otherwise loose the nostalgic of it all..

I doubt it'll happen to, even if it did I'd be apprehensive of watching it. I'm fairly certain PG wouldn't sign up for another sequel, but I bet there's a small part of the BBC that would love to have another hit on their hands.

I read that Matthew did a joke and gave a script with the title of another Ashes in the 90's I think, brought it to the BBC, they just saw the title page and knew there was nothing else there on the script and commissioned it anyways
