The "True Love" Discussion Tread

Let's get back to some serious episode discussion.

We last left off with "The Anti-Prom" in which Pacey and Joey fell into a comfortable step and back into each other's arms on the dance floor at the junior prom, thereby hurting Dawson once again. Pacey had offered a reticent Joey a definitive look into his devotion to her with his "I remember everything" speech, melting all of us in the process. But, where did that leave the triangle? Was a resolution forthcoming?

On to "True Love"... the final episode of season 3.

Could Pacey REALLY be taking an entire case of Rice Krispies Treats on his summer trip to the Florida Keys?

Hey Donna thanks for the great opener...you know...Joey revealed that he loves to put sugar in his fruity pebbles...LOL...what's hard to believe about a case of rice krispies treats...LOL...LOL...

This will be a wonderful episode to deconstruct...so much to think about...I will have to watch it again to put me in the mood...maybe tonight...but until then...

I felt the opening spoke volumes...when she tells Dawson that she still has to purchase something blue...for the wedding...and he answers her...there seems to be a lot of that going around these days...a foreshadowing of him having to accept the fact that she loves Pacey....and not him...

BTW...I love your new sig...I crack up every time I see it...boy he can be sarcastic
when he wants to be...don't get on his bad side...LOL...LOL

This episode is one of the best in 6 years because it truly has it all. The heartache, the love, the anger.. the smile on Josh's face when he turns to see her is breathtaking.

Only one nitpick, why would Pacey ask Joey if she can swim? Hmmm, did they grew up together by a damn creek?

CP...I'll bet a million dollars that...that line is Josh's sarcasim...and cuteness!!
just a small improversational line...like so many others he has said during the run of the series. (ie: when she puts the shaving cream on him in castaway's and he says to her..."Don't be shy") completely Josh...LOL

and i also agree that the episode "True Love" is in the top 5 of the series....

But see that is why the line doesn't make sense to me. Josh would have ad libbed something that made sense. I can see the idea of the scarcaism but Joey doesn't reply to it like it is meant that way and he is much better at delivering a line meant to sound like that. It is the huh moment for me each time it is spoken. It is the one line that pulls me out of the moment of the show and back into the land were DC writers make stupid errors.

CP....to play devils advocate...lets suppose it was written...I think they were going for the tenderness of their age...and a small laugh to break up how strong the emotion is at that moment....a theme they tend to follow...like also in the end of castaway's...they have just had the most romantic night...but they follow up with them waking up to the stockboy watching them....with cutesy sarcasim...
it's kinda like a one two punch...the sweetness and the sarcasim...that theme tends to follow them throughout the series...You have to admit the look on her face is priceless when he says it...

Here's something else.
Reelteen
Joshua Jackson

Nickname(s): Josh
Date of Birth: June 11, 1978
Place of Birth: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Sign: Gemini
Stats: 6'2

Fave Flick: Josh's fave John Hughes movie is Weird Science.
Fave Book: House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
Fave Band: Digs folk rocker Ben Harper.
Real Random: Last year, Joshua played the role of real-life hero when he rescued two women in trouble off the coast of North Carolina...Besides being a life-saver, Josh is a brain. That's right Josh has been known to read philophers like John Locke, Bertrand Russell, and Friedrich Nietzsche...His favorite Dawson' moment is when Pacey and Joey sailed away together on True Love.

so agree. it probably was adlibbed

love that pic katie. I think you have a point about that line. It did remind me of Castaways. I think it was just them bantering

I don't think the "you can swim, can't you?" line is adlibbed because after Joey replies "of course", she follows that with "but I'm more worried about what I'm going to do about a change of clothes". They're making a verbal list of their immediate worries and the lines do follow coherently.

Anyhow, Katie, I do love the pic you posted, the look on both of their faces, and the fact that Pacey just placed 3 or 4 cute pecky kisses on her, ending with a noisy "mouah!" No hesitation; all satisfaction in knowing that they each are the other's destiny.

I LOVE this episode. I have always thought that when Josh says, "You can swim can't you?" it implies that at some point Pacey may be throwing her off the boat, just for fun. I agree. I think it is an adlib. His adlibs are always my favorite diaglogue.

I believe that one of the most pivatol moments in this episode is when Grams
tells her story of Thomas Culpepper...The boy with the most beautiful blue eyes she has ever seen...( just a coinsidence...LOL)...In her speech she is teaching the kids about not having regret in your life...and that is an important life lesson!
The writers were able to capture the mood of the show...they were all having regrets and If only's...and that hit Pacey....

Nothing anyone else said to him was inspiring him to push harder for the Girl...

Andie tried at the end of Anti-Prom..."You have to tell her how you feel...you don't just give up"

Doug did in the beginning of the show by his boat..."Does Joey know you're leaving"..."Does she know how you feel"...."Everytime you look up at the stars...you are going to see her face"...

But it was gram's speech...that gave him inspiration to provide not only this incredible scene..... but a theme for the series....

The Painted wall and his heartwrenching message...."Ask Me to Stay"

Dawson's Creek....At it's Best!!!!!

joey & pacey sailing away on true love... aww.... we've been waiting for a moment like that for such a long time....

And I agree with KatieNap... Grams's speech is wonderful!!!!!
the story of Thomas is really touching!!! That woman is great!!!

And what about Jen going to find Henry to tell him how she really feels? wow!

Not to mention Dawson's face when he let Joey go... and starts crying... PRICELESS!!!! (look at the pic!)

Sometimes I wondered if the kids wouldn't have been better off all living with Grams and then she could have resolved their screwed lives so easily.

The scenes between Pacey and Doug and Joey and Doug were among the best in the episode. For once Doug was the big brother Pacey needed not just in his talk with Pacey but in his dealings with Joey. It was in that moment I knew how much Doug loved his little brother, or perhaps how much he liked him as a person not just a family member. Letting Joey know was the moment that changed their whole direction.

I would have liked to see have seen Doug and Bessie who had to be close in age with some discourse about the relationship their younger sibs were undertaking. It is those little moments were the backstory supports the main storyline that I love the most. True Love would have been the perfect moment for Doug and Bessie to have perhaps the only conversation they ever shared on the show.
