I also think part of the success of their pairing had to do with the slow build up in their relationship. I find everything is so rushed now on TV, we don't get to enjoy watching character development anymore.

Yeah, that too. Like I've said, one of the best thing about Pacey and Joey's love story in S3 was that it had great, realistic buildup. When S3 first aired I was ACHING for them to freaking kiss and when they finally did, I almost did a backflip lol. It was about damn time! Nowadays couples are in bed minutes after meeting each other. The slow build is one of the best things about love stories, the payoff is so great and satisfying when it happens. Rushing pairings ruins it and makes it unrealistic most of the time IMO.

Their S3 story arc is one of the best and well-executed love stories ever put on TV. I don't think any show has really been able to duplicate that kind of slow burn/longing/pining that Josh and Katie pulled off. It was a combination of really good writing and their incredible chemistry.
