Ole! Ole! The Americano News Thread - #2

Americano

Summary

Joshua Jackson, Dennis Hopper and Leonor Varela star in topline the indie feature "Americano," which is shooting in Pamplona, Spain.

The film, from rookie writer-director Kevin Noland, is set against the backdrop of the country's centuries-old Fiesta de San Fermin, better known as the running of the bulls at Pamplona. The shoot coincides with the nine-day festival, incorporating footage of the daily bull runs and nightly celebrations. Shooting also will segue to various small villages throughout Spain's region of Navarra and the Pyrenees mountains.

"Americano" centers around Chris McKinley (Jackson), a recent college graduate backpacking through Europe who savors his last three days of freedom before boarding the career fast track back in the United States. In Pamplona with two friends (Timm Sharp and Ruthanna Hopper), Chris meets an Australian thrill-seeker (Phil Barantini), a quintessential Spanish beauty (Varela) and an enigmatic provocateur (Dennis Hopper), all of whom encourage him to rethink his life. As the minutes and seconds until his departure tick away, Chris struggles with an age-old question: Should he follow the beaten path or risk it all on the road less traveled?

Hello everyone I'm back!!!! I just got in late last night, it took about 12 hours to get home. But you know what it was sooooooooo worht it!!! I loved every single thing about this movie it was just amazing. The directing the acting (of course) and just the raw footage of the bulls and Pamploma. I really can't say it enough. When the movie was over some guys in the back of the theatre screamed "That was great" and Kevin Noland just started laughing. It was so great to hear all these people so into this film. He said he couldn't believe so many people showed up for a 10am showing. He was so humble and gracious, just a great guy. He was talking about how he has to change all the music on the film because of the money situation, and how the release to theaters will be FEBRUARY so everyone keep your fingers crossed. He said if all goes as planned that's when it should come out. I am so happy I had the chance to go to Montana, it was a very pretty city as well. The long drive, lack of sleep, and gas money don't matter. I had the opportunity to see this amazing man Joshua Jackson, in the best role he could ever have done. He took my breath away as soon as he came on the screen. He is def gonna be an actor to be reckoned with.It was the best birthday gift I have ever given myself. I would do it again in a heartbeat
Oh and Jen and Ten, Tim sharpp did remind me of that guy, as soon as I saw him running to get into the water (that is who I thought of) notting hill guy

Glad you had a good time and enjoyed the film. Some things are worth suffering for.

"Jen and Ten" haha! Well, this can be another Americano reunion, as in..
movie commenting..especially from me since I haven't yet!

So, I wonder if Tim is a fan of "Notting Hill/Spike guy?" Probably just a coincidence--just like the coincidence that Josh just happens to look alot like Ewan did in Revenge of the Sith! (IMO!). That's one thing I agree with Donna about is Josh's beard in the movie(love the blond mixed in with the brown). I didn't care for it when he had it in Season 6 of DC, but I like it now.

Jenny, did you ask Kevin any questions? Did he tell everyone why they named the film Americano? That's a funny story--when he went in a restroom there, a kid called him a F-ing Americano. (correct me if I got the story wrong, that's the main part of it anyway)
Did anyone ask about any of the cast members hookiing up? He told us that basically, the alcohol they were drinking probably led to some of that..but we are talking about Josh here...I wouldn't need to be liquored up!
I am giving a few scenes away, so I'm warning of Spoilers now...

Speaking of DC, who else thought of it during the Hemingway references? :raises_hand: But, instead of a brick from his house, we have a statue!
And am I the ONLY one who feared for Josh's life when he was running with the bulls? Yes, he's done it several times before, but it's not like the bulls know he's Joshua Jackson!

and the skinny dipping scene...when Josh was stripping down to his boxers, I felt like I was one of the lucky people who went to see "A Life in the Theater."

Lastly, the most anticipated scene for me was...
the shower scene..
I didn't get the best view of it, since some guys in front of us were blocking my view...maybe we should've sat with ANGIE!
Oh well, at least it will be on dvd..they'd better not cut out ANYTHING!!! well, except the music, since he said they'd have to do that anyway...

So, that's about the extent of my comments...other than..
"You call him Dr.Jones doll!"

hey Jen I agree with you about the beard, it looks yummy in Americano.
Kevin really didn't say much about (off set stuff) but he did say he drank alot when he was there in 2000 (which inspired the film) and about his experience. He did say they were gonna work on the film but didn't mention any changes with scenes. Just the music is gonna go.... And also how he found Josh for the part, how he saw him on Letterman talking about running with the bulls and he said "that's my boy", but that's really it.
The shower scene: all I can say is that Josh is growing up to be such a damn sexy man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG he was lookin so good I couldn't think of anything else the entire day, as a matter of fact I still can't.
Kevin didn't mention the title, but IMO it's what they call Americans. That's what my guess would be. and Jen the whole Indiana Jones thing made me laugh so hard, you could barely hear anyone else I was so loud But that's me LOUD LOUD LOUD but I didn't care I was having too much fun watching beautiful Josh

Jenny, I was wearing this face all along while reading your post, so glad you enjoyed the trip and the film itself. To see Josh in big screen is one of my dreams as I know it won't have much chance the movie will be shown in China.Sad!
Oh, BTW, happy birthday!

Yeah I forgot to metion this guy that sat next to me said he saw Americano 3 times I couldn't believe it. He said he just loved the film so much and couldn't get enough, so that's good to know that Josh is getting support from males too.

Jenny, happy birthday, BTW! And welcome back.

Aren't you on a constant high now? Doesn't finally seeing Josh on that huge screen just take over your happiness?

Without giving too much away (if at all possible) what was your favourite scene? Do you have a least favourite scene? (There were some disturbing ones, after all.)

**MINOR SPOILER**

Spoiler:
I'll tell you one scene that keeps popping back into my mind. I don't know if you'd remember it, or if it struck you the way it affected me. It's such a little scene, but gorgeous. It was near the end of the movie, when Chris (Josh) went back to that telephone booth for the umpteeth time. It was very late in the day, he was in shadow and backlit from the setting sun. He walked into that booth, stood there, shifted his weight to one hip, then stepped up and looked out from the broken glass partition. That's it. Seemed like a little nothing scene; but, man, it really affected me. He looked so slim and sexy, all in virtual silouette.

I swear, it was the little scenes that just did you in. There was another one that I'll mention later. I want to hear what you think first.
