The 'FRINGE' Discussion Thread - Part #1

Well as discussion starts to increase on Josh's latest project, Fringe, I guess it's time to devote it's own thread to the subject! Here's what we know and the latest details:

Character: Peter Bishop
A smart high-school drop-out with a high IQ but problems gambling debts. Bishop is also said to be a member of a unit investigating sci-fi mysteries.

Status: Filming 2-Hour Pilot (with a pilot budget of $10 million)

News/Interviews:

Brief video - Josh discusses the show (thanks, patty!)

Josh talks about taking on the role (thanks, bearlee!)

***

I'll be adding more, soon. Feel free to continue the discussion and bring any news or details here!

The more I hear about this show, the more excited I am about it. I might actually get the Mr. to watch it with me. I'm happy to hear that there is some humor in it also.

We went out to eat with a friend this weekend who has some connections to the production of the show. They were able to convince Joe to watch it. Once he heard more details, he was sold!

He loved the X-Files and all that Sci-Fi stuff, that he said he'll "tolerate seeing Josh Jackson" if the show is good. HA!

What is it with our men? They hear the name Josh Jackson and they run screaming the other way!

wow, a Fringe thread...some much going on these days with Josh! great things are happening for him. there's so much to talk about!! thanks for the thread, Mandy. i cant wait to hear more about the show. im not big on sci-fi stuff and almost never watched X-files, but from what im reading the show is gonna be so much more than that. i love JJ Abrams too. i read somewhere that its got House/Bones influences too. with Josh as the lead, i could probably watch water boil! i think its gonna be really great!

I really hope Fringe will be the next X-Files, Lost and Heroes...with lots of veiwers. So everyone will see how talented Josh is. ANd become a household name. And we can tell the new fans, we were fans all along before Fringe.

I am most definitely psyched about Fringe! I would probably be pretty psyched about it even without Josh. But he just makes it about 10 million times more exciting! I've always been a sci-fi dork, seen every epi of X-Files. So the combination is just my cup of tea! And though I don't actually have a husband/boyfriend to watch it with me...I'm thinking my Dad will very into it....that's better than nothing right?

Well, my husband never recognizes Josh in anything, remember? He's seen two or three of his movies and... nothin'. Josh is such a chameleon, the hubby doesn't know it's him. Love it. It'll be so fun to get him hooked on Fringe!!

See I'm thinking I'll be able to slide the JJ under his nose. The only problem, Mr. doesn't really watch anything but sitcoms. So trying to get him to watch a 1 hour drama type show might not fly. I'm thinking the sci-fi aspect might help me though.!! But if it's on Thursday nights at nine that might be a major problem for me!!!! MAJOR!!!

Hi all!

Just checking my email, and came across this:

J.J. Abrams' New Show Almost Ready for Prime Time

Quote:
Man, I can barely cross off a handful of my to-do list items in a year and here goes J.J. Abrams executive producing Lost, producing and directing both Cloverfield and Star Trek, and now directing a new show, Anatomy of Hope, and writing a new sci-fi pilot for Fox.

The former is a medical drama based on Jerome Groopman's The Anatomy of Hope: How People Prevail in the Face of Illness. The show will look at the lives of cancer patients (hello Debbie Downer). The latter is Fringe, a series that sounds a lot like The X-Files -- a hot female FBI agent who investigates paranormal activity and teams up with a hot dude (Joshua Jackson from Dawson's Creek) to help with her "research".

Jackson recently defended the show: "The X-Files are slightly outside the rest of our experience. Fringe takes the world that we all live in and says, 'All right, so what you know about this cup you don't actually know, because if you look at it from over here, it's something entirely different.' And that will be the thrust of the show: that the physical world that we live in, without the addition of any magic or any supernatural, is far more than we all see it as being."

The two-hour, $10,000,000 pilot (roughly the same amount J.J. used to make the pilot of Lost) is almost done according to Jackson, but no premiere date has been set. I have a lot of faith in J.J., so I'm betting this isn't going to be a bust

I thought I read somewhere that Josh's character is good with disguises and that his how he keeps getting jobs and fools the government or something..I swear I have read that somewhere

My dad doesn't watch TV much..but I did get my brother hooked on to Lost, House and Supernatural..so..this will be pretty easy

You and I must have read the same article, but I don't remember where I saw it either. My take on it is that he is running away from a gambling debt and he impersonates various professions (eg pilots, doctors & whatever).
Not too long ago there was a man in the United States who did the same thing (pretending to be minister, doctor, etc) , but he did it just for the fun of fooling people and the thrill.

I read something about that, too. I think it related it to that old "Profiler" show on NBC years back.

And yeah, it had something to do with running from his gambling debts.
