I think that if anything had happened to Peter she wouldn't have dared go home. Her remit was to make sure they found the pieces of the machine and for Peter to work on it, with Walters help.

I never understood why she just didn't accept the box from the deaf guy as a public spirited citizen and hand it over to Broyles.

Perhaps the new title could be because "we're still interested enough to care."

She actually fell in love with Peter, so there was probably more than just the machine on her mind.

Well who wouldn't. I think when she first came over she realised how out of her depth she was especially with Newton being so snarky with her so she latched onto Peter as he was the Secretary's son. Later she had feelings for him but I think at first she was pushed into the relationship by Newton to prove to him that she could pull off the subterfuge.

If Peter hadn't been so preoccupied by the machine and it's reaction to him he may have suspected something was up a lot sooner than he did. Of course all the stuff with Walter inheriting MD and his strained relationship with Walter didn't help.
