Vampire Books

  • Blue Bloods
Within New York City’s most elite families, there lurks a secret society of celebrated Americans whose ancestors sailed on the Mayflower. They are the powerful and the wealthy—and in fact, they are not human. They are the Blue Bloods, an ancient group of vampires.

Schuyler Van Alen has never fit in at Duchesne, her prestigious New York City private school. She prefers baggy, vintage clothes instead of the Prada and pearls worn by her classmates, and she lives with her reclusive grandmother in a dilapidated mansion. Schuyler is a loner—and happy that way.

But when she turns fifteen, Schuyler’s life changes dramatically. She has a mosaic of blue veins on her arms, and craves raw meat. The death of a popular girl from Duchesne is surrounded by a mystery that haunts her. And strangest off all, Jack Force, the most popular boy in school, is showing a sudden interest in her.

Schuyler wants to find out the secrets the Blue Bloods are keeping. But is she herself in danger?

Three-hundred-year-old Risika looks darn good for her age. Thanks to her "blood mother," a vampire named Ather who turned Risika (nee Rachel) into one of the undead back in 1684, she will always look as fresh as a 17-year-old. Now Risika is a world weary night stalker who sleeps in Concord, Massachusetts, by day and prowls New York City by night, in search of fresh blood to slake her inhuman thirst. One of the benefits of living such a long life has been discovering that most of the popular myths about vampires are not true: "Holy water and crosses do not bother me... and silver does not burn me. If someone hammered a stake through my heart, I suppose I would die, but I do not play with humans, stakes or mallets." In fact, there is little in the mortal world that surprises Risika anymore, until she returns from a hunt one night to find a black rose on her pillow--the same flower she was given on the eve of her mortal death. Knowing that the rose is a taunt from Aubrey, a vampire she believes murdered her human brother, Risika decides to confront her nemesis. In a bloody battle with Aubrey, Risika finally unearths her brother's true fate.

To get us started: What are everyones favourite books featuring vampires?

DanceWithLife 10-10-2008 03:00 AM

I'm not gonna lie, I have an inclination for it. I do like the mythology of it all and am a bit fascinated by it.

Stay to the Lights 10-10-2008 03:37 AM

Oh this is a great idea, thanks for starting Andie!

I love all the Vampire genre. It intrigues me.

I have read the twilight books, Southern Vampire Mysteries(Still going) and i do have the Blood Books by Tanya Huff. They are based on the Vampire show 'True Blood.'
I have yet to read the Anne Rice books though, has anyone read them?

The Anita Blake series is good until about book 8 I'd say. Afterwards it changes dramatically. It has no storyline and turns into something I definitely don't want to read

Stay to the Lights 10-10-2008 05:06 AM

Ah, that sucks. :(

Yeah it does, because the beginning was quiet good in my opinion. It wasn't all about sex, it used to have interesting storyline and likable characters. jean Claude was really intriguing for example

Stay to the Lights 10-10-2008 05:16 AM

I love that name!

Is book 8 the last book?

Andie 10-10-2008 05:19 AM

No, she is at 15 or 16 at this point. I *think* the latest release it called Blood Noire

Jean-Claude is a sexy French Master Vamp

Stay to the Lights 10-10-2008 05:23 AM

Ah, and you don't think it got any better?

Wow.. 15 or 16 books? Man, thats huge for a series.

Mm.. he sounds hot.

Andie 10-10-2008 05:31 AM

Oh believe me I've skimmed the books until about 14 I think and afterwards even gave that up. I guess you like to read about a sex in detail, these books are good

It's a very long living series for sure. I think the consensus on the internet is that the books aren't what they used to be.

He is, plus he owns a club  not to mention that he
Spoiler:

Stay to the Lights 10-10-2008 05:39 AM

Hah, interesting.

I guess sometimes if a book series goes on so long, the plot starts to fade and it becomes something completely different. That's why, i rather book series 10 books or less.

Fading Letters 10-10-2008 09:53 AM

I recently heard of the Necroscope series by Brian Lumley. It's not solely about vampires but does include some. However the cover pictures creep me out. Does anyone know the books?

Quote:

Necroscope is the title of a series of horror novels by British author Brian Lumley.

The term necroscope, as defined in the series, describes someone who can communicate with the dead (coined Deadspeak later in the series). Unlike necromancers, who attempt to command the dead through rituals, spells, bodily mutilation and sometimes necrophilia, a necroscope simply communicates with them without any physical interference.

The term "necroscope" originally (in Greek) meant someone that can "see" (scope) into the dead (necro). It was used as a formal legal and scientific term for "Coroner" up to the middle of the 20th century. After the 1950s it ceased to be used, but can still be found in early 20th century books and encyclopedias (see Helios' Encyclopedia, 1954 Athens). Necroscope, as a term for Coroner, came to be considered distasteful as it was associated with the coroner's "tools" of the day, knives, saws and drills, and today is not in use. Notably, in the series the "necroscope" communicates with the dead without any tools, or bodily mutilation, an ability normally attributed to a "necromancer" (in Greek), whereas the "necromancers" in the series use tools like those used by the real "necroscopes", the coroners.

The abilities of a necroscope are defined as a type of ESP.

defyprobability 10-11-2008 01:15 PM

Yeah it was Mike :pout: Vamp and Vamp relationships dont work, they get territorial.

I shipped Anita with Jean-Claude for the most times! :) Then I lost interest in the books for a bit, i'm gonna pick them up again sometime

Stay to the Lights 10-11-2008 01:17 PM

I just wish there was a way, for them to work out the territorial issues :(
